I wonder why it has not been mentioned already on here...

The trade winds are swirling that the jags have been trying to trade Fournette since the combine, but keeps failing. Rumors are they are looking for next year pick(s) for him.

I think we should do it...

He will be a beast running behind DD, and having Watt as a lead back. Imagine him on a team that has a legit QB!

He is still young ( 25). Yeah I know he is Conner like with injuries, but well worth the risk. There is really no risk, if he fails here we lose a draft pick, and money. If you think about it we gave up a 5th rounder for a year rental of Vennett, traded a 5th rounder again for Wormely. Paid 5 M for Chicko .

Even if it is just one year, we should get compensation for him which shoould be more than we give up for him.

He has been mentioned is some comments on other threads.. like you said much like Conner.....injuries

Cope where are you at........?? give us some numbers on the contract values and trade compensation for a guy like Fournette please

We are pretty tight up against the cap so the money probably isn't there. ALSO I'm thinking the Jagoff's want more than a 5th for him. ALSO Remeber you can't contribute if you are NOT on the field. I thin k we are looking in the draft for a more versatile RB with more up-swing. The RB position is the easiest to transition from college to pro. Fournette is looking for a payday BUT is the ideal RB to use up on rookie salary and then get someone else.

Just my two pennies

Salute the nation

He's certainly worth a 5th but I wouldn't give up one of our "premium' picks for him.

He's still on his rookie deal, so his cap hit is around 4 million I think.
He's started 13 games in 2017, 8 in 2018, and 15 in 2019.

If it's a mid round pick, I'd do it, he's first round pedigree guy, he had 76 catches last year, and if Ben is healthy it'll take pressure off him.

Fournette has come to camp out of shape and it is being reported that he is often late for meetings, falls asleep during meetings, is lazy, and can be moody even when getting his touches. Could a change of scenery make a difference? Maybe or you could end up with the running back version of AB.

some of the same things were said about Bettis and with all the bs in jacksonville re no qb lackluster fo moves would you be pissed heard jags are not asking much next years 4th and conner and in the 6th draft the tcu back Swelo

not gonna happen. Better to draft someone on the cheap than to trade when we don't have much to give up to get him

Interesting point George. If Fournette gets a big contract, a 3rd or 4th is possible for him. That would be good trade value, and the Steelers would make out in trade capital.

The only problem with Fournette, is he's not a fit personnel to value, on this team that is trying to win now. Steelers went out and solidified their biggest position of need this year, which was TE. Signing Vance and Ebron tied up $7.5M and turned the TE position into a strength. Steelers are very tight it will probably be around $1M when the draft picks are signed.

RB already has an All Pro starter, Conner, a capable 2 way threat as a backup in Samuels, and young talent in Snell and Whyte. It would be a luxury to take a more expensive Vet RB. I do agree there is value in getting Fournette at $4.167M for a year, but I think the needs are set, plus needing a 3-4M Cushion for signing players after some of ours will go down with injuries, is more important this year.

I think the Steelers go WR in this draft, may even take an RB if the value is there. With Ben ready to go. This O will move the football, and to me, the biggest needs on O to make that happen are guard and improve the WR depth.

exactly.
hes a one year rental tho.
hopefully we receive a comp higher than the pick we would give away. and thats fairly likely

What do you mean he is not a fit personel value and that he won't help win now?

If you were an older QB with a rehabbed arm, a strong running game would be the best thing for him. As of now we have a horrible running corp. Having Fournette and Conner gives you 2 legit #1 RBs, share the burden and they are injuried prone, just like our TEs, hopefully they play together, if not better chances 1 would be available. Samuels isn't any good, he might have a handfull of good runs all year. he can catch. Snell is a poor man's Conner, with durability.

Do you put 8 man in the box stop Fournette and let Ben throw like crazy, or do you let Fournette run like crazy?

We got to stop talking like he is washed up and a trouble maker, he played for the Jags, everyone wants out, even the player association a few years ago warning FA not to sign there.
WE can find 5 million easy.. Cut Samuels and whyte that is probably close to 2 million right there...Draft a nose tackle, cut Mcullers save 1.5, cut Berry, that is another 1 million, that is easy 4 million right there....

We can avoid drafting a RB all together... focus on dpeth on the D and develop players on OL.

I'd consider a fifth or later for him. I figure Fournette for a year is better than a fifth rounder who won't make the roster.

I would be ok with that late fourth. They have two of them.

then you could concentrate on G/WR/ILB (not necessarily in this order) in round 2,3,4.

My thoughts exactly. I think we need the most work on the OL (need a G/C and OT). I'm pondering what we could get for Snell and a 7th? Fournette???

I am more concerned about Jaysam, Snell I want to see a little more if he can build off his rookie season. Not that I am locked into Snell but I am curious if he can improve..............

Jaysam seemed to regress.

In a heartbeat. Talk on the radio is that they will take a 6th round for him.

He's lazy and a pain in the ***. That's been his mo for a good time now. He does have talent, but if talent doesn't work hard,it's worthless.

Who knows. If it's cheap do it. I'd love for him to pound the jagoffs when we play them.

Fournette when healthy is a beast, workhorse back with elite speed and good power and toughness. I had him in fantasy football his rookie year. He is injury prone, but is special when healthy.
He isn't Leveon Bell level talent, but would be a big upgrade over Conner. Who nobody can expect to stay healthy and productive at this point he hasn't been either for the better part of the last 2 seasons.
Unlike drafting a RB Fournette has proven to be a quality back on a team with literally nothing else offensively.

I'd be willing to give Fournette a shot as a rental. Wouldn't really hurt. Having Conner and Snell to take some snaps his back would help Fournette stay healthy as well. Could be a mutual benefit to both sides

I think we differ on the self evaluation of the Steeler's running back situation. Sure Fournette would improve the room, but are you benching our Pro Bowl runner so he can have touches? Samuels is the best pass catcher we have out of the backfield, and I'd like to see him in more of a defined 3rd down back role. Snell and Whyte have flashed, but still don't know what you have. The league was crowding the box last year, and we couldn't move the football. It didn't help that we lacked a QB that could move the football vertically, but brining in Fournette isn't going to stop teams from crowding the box like they did last year, unless we show improvement in pass protection, and Ben starts slinging the ball around.

I agree financially, this is the only year that would ever make sense in grabbing Fournette, but you have to give up something. Steelers need depth at ILB, OLB, S, DL, OT, IOL, and WR and they have 6 picks. A lot here want to draft a RB, and that is an option as well, but the needs aren't being met in the draft and we'd have to give up a pick to get Fournette. On top of that, they have to work out the financials. They're really tight against the cap and have restructured a majority of the players that they can. It would take another big move to fit him in AND get the rookie class signed, AND have 3-4Mil for the emergency injury fund.

I wouldn't be upset if the Steelers made a move and picked up a diverse running/ receiving threat in Fournette, but I'm not giving up anything more than a 6th rounder for him, and I don't think he specifically is the piece that makes the Steelers offense unstoppable.
