Steelers ILB L.J. Fort signs a three-year deal with the Eagles that can reach up to $10 million with playing time incentives, according to a source. The deal includes $1.9 million in guarantees. Steelers made efforts to keep him but he had other suitors.

I would have thought Fort more valuable than Chikalo.

Fort is ILB Chikalo OLB, but I agree with the value part. I would have kept Fort for depth (hard to say given what we have at ILB - he is the best ILB we have).

Fort > Vince Williams
Fort >> Bostic
Fort >> Matakevich

Our ILBs really suck. We HAVE to get a stud ILB.

Besides drafting a ILber perhaps they will bring one in pass coverage capable..

I'd say this forces an ILB in the first round which might be a good thing. Fort was the best of a bad lot at being a coverage ILB. Settling for him might not have been a good idea.

Can they still dump bud and that 9 mil 1 yr deal? Or is it a done deal?

Steelers exercised an option, so the signing bonus is already played out. The team owes only salary, so if they cut Durpee, they owe him nothing.

Should they do it? Yes, absolutely. Durpee is mediocre. Never saw a guy that big get pushed around at the point of attack.

Will they do it? Not unless they sign Houston.

Fort has been under rated for years. Sorry to see him go. He was our best ILB.

Why would you not sign a player that when was in a game played hard, Steelers continue to make us fans scratch our heads, maybe this was one of those biggggg changes from Tomlins's lips.

I liked Fort. Thought he was solid when he got a chance to play. Atleast, we re-signed Big Dan. All is right in B&G Land now.

Same. He was a splash play type of guy.
You can tell he was pretty athletic

It's hard to imagine this was possible, but the Steelers ILB group got worse today. A group already the worst in the league, just dropped even more.

When I watch Bostic and Matakevich run, I seriously question if either of those 2 are any faster than me. Not joking, they might not be.

Now before anyone asks, no I'm not a 25 year old track athlete. I'm a 51 year old guy with 4 knee surgeries in my rearview. That's how slow they are.

Bad. Just bad. He had more heart than the rest of the guys mentioned above, combined. Now Houston HAS to be signed, which I am good with.

All I know is that James + fort contracts should equal Nelson's, so we should receive a 3rd round comp for Bell next season

If you had to pick between Foster, or Fort, who do you sign? I think the Steelers screwed this one up.

Foster is a solid starter Fort a decent fringe player. They tried to sign both, so it isn't a matter of screwing up. Some people move onto bigger opportunities. Steelers will be addressing ILber in the draft.

Without Fort, the Steelers really need to address ILB via FA or an early draft pick. If they keep a guy like Fort, they settle with him as a safety net.

Teams are definately passing more than ever due to the NFL rules changes allowing ththe pass to be easier for the offense. The Bince Williams are dinosaurs in today’s nfl.we need high-breed ILB. Dirty Red isn’t going to make this team unless they keep cutting everyone else. I hope like heck our fast ILB makes it to us in the draft.

Salute the nation

Letting fort go is a head scratcher I mean we shouldn’t be in a position of depending on a special teamer to play on passing down which now days is 75 percent of the snaps but that being said.... we were dependent!!!! Who’s replacing him!?!?! Bostic and Williams can’t cover their shadows. Watch Matt Thomas replace Mosley in Baltimore put up 100 tackles.. lol
