Former Browns All-Pro Thomas rips Steelers – but praises Tomlin

Hey joe how did it feel to play for the Browns all those years?

He rips the Steeler but praises the man who leads them. Not buying it

Joe Thomas was the only legit player the Browns have really had in the past decade. He's entitled to his opinion. I think this Steelers team is better than he gives them credit for, but the Dolphins were really mailing it in in that game. 3rd and 20, send 8? If the Steelers didn't score on that play then something is seriously wrong there.

I know a browns fan and he wants them to fire Kitchens and go after Tomlin. He thinks Tomlin runs a tight ship and can bring discipline to the browns.

Steeler fans are mixed on Tomlin and when the subject of the Redskins possibly wanting to trade for him come up, they laugh. But the fact is that Tomlin is held in very high regard by pretty much everybody except Steeler fans

Can anyone give me a credible reason why other than the oft-repeated statement that he has never had a losing season? What players are better due to his coaching? What team with superior talent has he beaten due to coaching expertise compared to the number of teams with lesser talent that he has lost to?

he did beat the potential SB Champs last year. . .

I swear to God, I am going to punch a kitten if I hear one more ******* time about how the Dolphins just choked sending 8 on 3rd and 20. Jesus, didn't Booger suck their dong about 10x before that play FOR SENDING ALL THAT ******* PRESSURE?!? And how ******* many times have Steelers fans whiiiiiiiiined about the team not sending pressure on 3rd and long and instead "sitting back in a zone" and getting ***-raped? The over/under on that question is 10,000,000.

And how many times have you seen a team send a ton of guys, the QB get a quick completion, and the receiver is dragged down after about 6 yards? A-*******-lot, that's how many, inevitably followed - every goddamn time - with the whine, "Uuuuuuuuhhhhh, why throw a 6-yard pass on 3rd and 20??"

I guaran-*******-tee you, if the defender had stuck to DJ and dropped him for a 6-yard gain, Booger's lips would be wrapped around the Dolphins' pecker once again. "Miami is just taking it to the Steelers with that pass pressure. What a great call."

**** him. You all realize that you are basically buying into a schtick developed by Booger ******* McFarland, don't you??????????????????????????

I blasted Tomlin for doing a similar thing against the Seachickens. It was 3rd and 16 and Wilson had already ran for a first down. You don't send the house in those situations. You give them the underneath stuff and make the tackle.

Booger is a moron just like the Miami HC. They still wouldn't have won the game but there is no reason to excuse a horrible decision. He keeps doing that he'll be just another one of Belicheats underlings that sucks at being a HC.

Same here. Against Russell ******* Wilson no less. That was maddening to watch.

The Dolphins even had a pass coverage set up and called a TO. Then go and put 8 in the box with 3 DBs that sat back and looked lost. That was an idiotic call on their defense that maybe, best case scenario, works in Madden or something with a 99 rated DT.

Thomas was a great player on a lot of ****** Browns' teams, but he's just wrong here.

I'm honestly getting tired of people in the national sports media lecturing Steelers fans on how great Tomlin supposedly is and how fortunate we are to have him.

Seriously, name another NFL coach who has done less with more than Tomlin over the past decade.

The only one that comes close is Mike McCarthy, and the Packers finally made a change...for the better, it seems.

Andy Reid has Always come up on the short end of the stick. Many rats fans consider harbage as a boob too.

I actually do think Tomlin is one of the best in the NFL now. But that’s partly because I think the coaching in general is terrible right now. The coaching ranks used to be chocked full of lifers. You’d have a head coach with 10 + years in before he got a HC shot. The coordinators were position coaches for years and under multiple systems for many years before getting that promotion. And the goal of coaches was to teach and coach performance improvement.

now you have tons of coaches with very little experience calling the shots. They only have experience in their one niche scheme. The focus is not on coaching up players, it’s on trying to scheme up tricks to create big plays.

That’s why the Pats are dominating. They are actually teaching football. They are versatile and can do more than 1 thing. They survive because against most of these so called genius young coaches, you take away their 1 thing and they don’t have any answers. Their players can’t overcome anything because they rely on the coach to get them open, or to get them a free blitz on the QB, etc.

It’s an era of Madden coaches, good at calling plays, but not so great at coaching football. Sure, the NFL itself is partly to blame as they have nearly outlawed practice, but it can still be done. Look at the job Sean Payton is doing. Who do you want on that offense besides Michael Thomas and Kamara? Same on their defense. They were able to survive losing Brees.

in today’s NFL, Tomlin’s ability to at least steer the ship straight puts him in the upper echelon.

Reid is a great coach. I think he suffers from the same thing that plagued Cowher. Namely, he’s such a good coach that he gets mediocre talent to win way more games than they should and then expectations get high and they come up short. It’s seems disappointing but the fact is the season was much better than it had any right being.

He was dominating the NFC with the eagles and he had James Thrash and Freddie Mitchell as his best WRs.

I don't like ranking coaches. Tomlin hasn't won a SB in 11 years and won't win one this year. Each team has to find a HC that is going to give them the best chance to win. Some teams are never going to win because of the ownership. The bungles and clowns are never going to win... ever. Not with the ownership they have now. Tomlin has had a HOF QB his entire career and he managed 1 SB stocked full of the other coaches talent just 2 years into his term. Since the loss to GB in the SB he's made one conference championship game. He just isn't getting it done. You need someone who can take this team to the next level. Obviously Tomlin can't do it with a stacked team in over a decade.

Totally hear yaz Vader. The real question s can another coach win more than 8-8 with this team...... I think yes. Look at Green Bay, fire Mike and new coach seems to be doing better than old coach.

I think a new coach ( with football sense) can out coach Tomlin and the new guy might be easier to find than one thinks. Imagine, a drafted player actually coached up. When constantly picking in the twenties one needs to be able to coach up players and Tomlin's coaching regime can't.

How about down playing to other teams and bringing a game plan that isn't so complicated the players are "lacking communication while on the field". How many times has that excuse been used......... What about main game plan of running against a high run defense rated team or rushing against the last place passing defensive team.

Tomlin just has so many lacking abilities it's hard to imagine how he wins other than the fact that the talent has bailed him out over and over countless times. A lot of people, including steelers fans, blow Ben Roethlisberger off as average. That couldn't be further from the truth but also realize Ben has save coach Tomlin many a times. I have said many a times......."Tomlin, over the last ten years, has done the LEAST with arguably the MOST talented team in the entire NFL".

What have we got to lose on replacing him........ 8-8, never a losing season, 3 playoff wins in 10 years..... What, what???
