Q. During your Tuesday news conference, you referred to Roman Wilson's fumble as a "boneheaded lack of ball security." Generally speaking when it comes to those kinds of things, do you have a doghouse?
A. I certainly do. I don't necessarily know that I have any hard-and-fast, black-and-white guidelines in terms of what constitutes what puts someone in the doghouse. I just know when I'm there.
Q. So how does a guy get back into your good graces once he's in the doghouse?
A. I don't know that he does, to be quite honest with you. I was told long ago that once a player shows you who he is, believe him. And so if I'm at that point, I don't know that there is (a way out).

The guy plays about 8 snaps a game. He was trying to make something happen, perhaps prove his worth. Sure, it was the wrong thing to do given the situation, but I’m not sure you throw the baby out with the bath water.

You're just not a first ballot HOF coach who never had a losing season!

No reason to keep any player around once they hit his dog house then, at that point they are just wasting space.

Yup. Young guy probably unaware of where the 1st down marker was. Najee used to leap over people, but that was one on one. If you are in traffic when you go up the ball is going to move in the crook of the arm making it easy to punch out. He'll never do that again as I'm sure that was explained to him.

Add the fact that he can't retain more than 2 plays at a time - kinda makes sense until he proves otherwise...

This could explain the lack of development from younger players.
I'm leaning toward Tomlin speaking in general. If he's going to do that to a young guy who made one mistake...that is horrible coaching. Now if they've been coached on this by Tomlin's staff before the season and he still went and did it anyway I can see him getting to ride the pine all season.

Again, some of the most impactful pieces Ive read about sports have come from the Players tribune, a publication written by players..

One of those articles i will never forget was about Paval Datsyuk of the Red wings. The guy was super talented... and extremely creative, but NHL coaches want simple, not creative... the guy was a sixth round pick, Henrik Zetterberg was a 7th...

When first called up, he forced some pucks that led to bad turnovers. Most coaches would doghouse him abd demote him... low round pick, not playing safe...

Scotty Bowman kept those two up. He nurtured their creativity and taught them to use it within the system intelligently... in return he ended up with two players that are future HOF guys.

How did Terrell Edmunds, Green the guard who almost learned center, Dan Moore Jr, Diontae Johnson, Whiff Johnson, Devin Bush, Spinthenfall, etc.
ever get on the field?

i too heard this during pregame. WTF kind of coach are you tomlin? Who does this? This is why he isnt playing.. Tomlin straight up dont like him.

Devin Bush shouldn't have been in a Dog house. He should have been taken to the vet waiting for the last ride. Buy he was a player of pedigree. If you will. Look I wanted Ladd McConkey in that draft. But regardless Wilson has no chance in this system. They are scared of going over the middle and thats the only place a player like him can succeed. Just like McConkey last night.

I wanted McConkey too. I watched every game he played in at Georgia. The guy is a player.I just knew it would never happen. Probably better for him.

Ladd’s just a gamer
Helluva player
Good for him that he went to a grown up offense

Glad Tomlin doesn’t get to try to shackle this young man, he dodged a bullet

I posted it in the game thread but this offense is a wasteland for wide receivers. It seems like a long time ago when the Steelers receivers were putting up monster numbers. I suppose it shows us how great Ben was at QB.
