For everyone who cried over Tyler Eifert

He's now having his third back surgery. Out for the season. He's a FA after the year, though. Maybe we can sign him.

Yeah, Jones was the much better pick.

sarcasm/

Look for TJ Watt to pass J Jones career sack total ( six sacks for our former 1st round bust in 50 games played ) soon.

I heard that Gronk guy is hurt again, so Pats should never have gotten him either

He does miss a ****-ton of games. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoodie doesn't give him another contract.

Jones was a bad pick. Everyone knew it. He worked out like a rookie free agent and was not big, fast or strong, plus he was too slow in general.

Agree. I'm not usually critical of Steeler draft picks because I don't follow college ball and players that much and I figure the FO knows more than I do, but I had a feeling that he would never be strong enough to be good in the NFL. Never liked the pick and said so at the time.

Here is the thing. Jones was very slow. He ran a 4.88 forty, and was neither big ( 6'2" 240 ), or strong. And he was a medical risk. How many OLB's or 4-3 ends pass rushers in the NFL have these measurables? Maybe 0 or 1. NEVER pick a guy like this in round one. More like round 5-7.

Summary>>>> Too slow to cover or play special teams not strong or big enough for a bull rush, not quick enough to beat anyone outside, and the film in college shows he had problems disengaging for blocks.

The crazy thing about Jones was that alot of mocks and experts had him pretty highly rated early on

good thing is, we can bring JJ back and keep this bitching and whining about him going.

Jarvis Jones: Receives injury settlement

by RotoWire Staff Sep 3, 2017 • 1 min read Update Sep 3, 2017, 1:48am
The Cardinals released Jones (back) with an injury settlement Saturday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Injuries conspired to contain Jones to only two preseason appearances, during which he notched two tackles (one solo). Otherwise, a quad concern and then a "disc issue" in his back hindered his availability in both practice and games. Once his injury settlement concludes, he'll be eligible to sign with another organization.

Interesting........what was Deebo's measurables for comparison?

Harrison did not get a combine invite. He was a rookie free agent. My best guess is Harrison was be was far stronger than Jones. His 2002 pro day may be out there somewhere on the web...

My point Ike is why spend a 1st round pick on a guy who's slow, not big, and not strong, with injury red flags?

**** that. the fact that he is injured all of the time does absolutely NOTHING to sway my original heartbreak for taking that bum jarvis over him. dude is a baller when he is in there, can you say that about the player that we drafted instead of him?

Why did they spend a 1st on a short DB whose head was too big.

The point is the draft isn’t an exact science. Never has and never will be. There will always be misses. ALWAYS. The goal is to try to get an impact player in the first couple rounds. Then build the roster with the rest.

Posit - name one team whose organization in the last decade who hasn’t had 1 or 2 misses.

I’ll answer. None.

Ike,

You miss the point. Yes all teams make mistakes on round one. But only the foolish team spends their first round pick on a player who works out like a rookie free agent, and has medical issues. DUH

Forget, Eifert.

The Steelers should have taken either Xavier Rhodes or Desmond Trufant.

The Jones pick was a total disaster. It was much worse than the Huey Richardson pick, as at least Richardson had the physical and athletic tools to succeed. The dude just did not know how to play at the pro level.

Kinda like how Heath Miller worked out at the combine. Oh, wait he didn't. He was hurt and had surgery. Stop telling me I miss the point. We all know how you hated the pick, you've told us in practically every thread you've made how you detest Tomlin and Colbert. No team is in infallible. Give it a rest already.

I wanted Dan Marino.

I was utterly baffled when they didn't take him. I get that they thought Bradshaw would be back but regardless he was near the end of his career anyway.

Me too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Ron,.........I meant in place of Uncle Jarvis as even as late as Marino is in age I still think he would have been the better pick.........

Salute the nation

It’s been documented by many writers that when Marino’s alleged cocaine habit while at Pitt was “leaked” he took a free fall like Aaron Rodgers. Don’t think there was any proof Dan was using it. Some conspiracy theorists imply some team who wanted him to fall leaked it.

Mr. Rooney had always said he regretted, in hindsight, not taking Marino when they had the chance.
