For all you Jesse James fans out there

Problem is he has four better players ahead of him.

1- Timmons- Yes, agreed
2- Shazier- Yes, agreed
3- Spence/Williams- Most likely, but I am thinking he MIGHT be as good as Spence, problem is, I can't tell because I can't see him on the field against the same level of competition Spence plays against.
4- Zumwalt. That's just in my opinion, from what I've seen, so yes, you might be right, and there might also be some guys I haven't watched as closely. I admit he reminds me of that old school LB personality, and I think that's worth something on the D, if he can crack the 53, who knows.

(So I'd say Williams is better, and he might be a push with Spence)

This is strictly ILB by the way, at OLB we might just be ****** 7 ways from Sunday, we have-

1- Harrison (I know how hold he is, but no one else has shown **** yet)
2- Moats
3- Dupree (He got good push on several plays, but was run out of the play, typical with a guy as new as Dupree)
4- Zo Jackson
5- Grandma Tilly from down the street
6- Ball boy
7- Suisam (post injury)
8- Jarvis Jones

:)

I haven't exactly written Jarvis off yet, but I think he's at about the right spot on the depth chart to start.

Joe

Getting involved in plays? He was the target and dropped them lol

It is only his first pre season game so he gets a pass but saying he was getting involved in plays as a positive is a bit of a stretch.

He was involved in plays the way the Japanese were involved in Hiroshima.

....with his pedigree obviously if he knuckles up, his play will be above the line, which is what we desire, obviously.

I think Jesse has to go back to the lab, and turn over stones. The arrow needs to point up.

I'd be interested to see what Landry Jones can do throwing to the 1's rather than the 3's.

He might look better, he might look lots better tossing the ball surrounded with the first team but his delay of game penalties are likely all on him. He might also only look marginally better. One other thing he was facing most of the night were the other teams rookies and back ups so if he is playing against the first team he might look much worse. He was not considered a great prospect when picked so it is not likely he will be, it could happen though. I suspect the rate of return on projects at the qb position is mighty slim. The only one I can think of that has paid off is marsha** and we really do not know how well that player would have looked with out more than a decade of cheating and seemingly very favorable calls by the zebras when they were needed. There have been several different allegations and no reason to think there is not some basis for them.

Do you have any successful qbs in mind that were taken 3rd round or later as a project that have done well?

Wilson ain't been bad. But not as many recently as there used to be. Seems like teams are jumping on marginal guys quicker.

Look, the kid did bad, but for the trillionth time if you expect a draft pick, especially a low round pick, to be a star from moment 1 he steps on the field, then you are a delusional football fan. This game will either help him grow, or he wont and will get cut... 1 preseason game is not enough to judge anything by...

Billy the Kid was better.....

Cut Jesse a break. Its his first professional game and most likely the kid was a wreck. He'll do fine and improve as the the preseason unfolds, and yes the James gang will ride again.

We've talked more about James in one pre-season game than we have about Blanchflower since he's been drafted in 2014.

Not many - when Kyle Boller is being taken in the 1st it shows how desperate teams are for QB prospects and how fundamental it is to have a good one.

But there are a number where the light has come on late - Warner, Romo, Nick Foles... going down to journeymen types like Matt Cassell, Derek Anderson and even Mike Tomczak, but there are a ton of others that have got by to have servcieable careers (Gus Frerotte, Bruce Gradkowski amd so on).

It's just so rare that these guys get an opportunity to face live bullets out there that it's tough to get a good read on them until they see some extended play. Then when you do you get GMs throwing around stupid trades to try and get hold of them based on some very scanty evidence. If you look at Matt Flynn or Charlie Whitehurst you can see how heavily valued the position is.

If Jones can just become a serviceable "don't lose the game" back up then I'd be delighted. As of now I don't think that's likely but he seems to be trying to do all the right things (working out with QB gurus in the offseason etc) so I hope that some extended preseason action will help him and make a difference.

Good points Slaine, which was kinda where I was looking for the discussion to go. I was thinking the deck was stacked against him so to speak and that he was an unlikely player to have a success story. Just think at this point unless you find someone nobody has heard of from a small school or something like that you are unlikely to grab a guy that will amount to anything at the qb spot outside of the first round and likely he will be in the top half of the first round.

This. The kid was nervous. Maybe he was having flashbacks to the showers at college.

we should all be fans of Jesse James, he's on the team right? We should want him to succeed

ABSOLUTELY, just not blindly...................... Jesse will be fine, I'm guessing next preseason game, he is targeted, to see if his week's work is improving as in arrow turning upwards .

Salute the nation

Like all projects he will take time to develop. So will coats who seems to have work issues so far. By the work issues there are plays he quits on or fails to try for. He will need to get past this issue of his game. James will be learning how to block and how to run routes. He likely did not have near the coaching that was once available in western PA.
