Fixing the Defense

Keith Butler pretty much was demoted to OLB coach last offseason.

So you're saying:

1. Butler does not run this defense
2. Tomlin is the de facto defensive coordinator
3. Butler does little else than coach the linebackers
4. All of the above
5. None of the above

so 3 out 4 starting members of our secondary was not drafted by us yet our head coach was considered a def coach whos strength was the secondary. does that seem like a issue?

I think we should go 4-2-5 for nickel and 4-1-6 for dime. (Cam, Tuitt, Hargrave, and I would use Watt as a DE here). For long passing downs or "prevent" throw in a 3-1-7. You can always blitz corners or safeties to mix things up. Some of the safeties could play as a hybrid type depending on the situation.

Yep, some 3-3-5 is needed & especially against potent running teams.

It doesn't take a genius football mind to see this, it takes a 5th grade education.
Johnny here's the question:
You have 5 guys that weight 300lbs, pushing two guys that weigh 300lbs, a 3rd guy weighing 235lbs, a 4th guy weighing 240lbs, and a 5th guy weighing 220lbs. Whose going to win?

I guess instead of blaming the idiot in charge, it's easier to blame the rookie LB that weighs 240lbs, and the LB they brought in from the Rams that was a S converted to LB that weight 230lbs, blame them two because they are being blocked by guys that weight 60-80lbs more than them.

The defense still allows way to many third and very long, they tackle poorly giving up way to many yards after catch, we get beat continuously with a TE down the middle with trying to use a linebacker to many times in coverage. We see this every week , never been an imorovement since Tomlin allowed the defense to get old and did nothing at the time to fix.

Bush isn't ready yet regardless of the front 2 or 3. However playing 2 DL is going to hurt whoever is playing ILB. I don't understand what he's thinking. Do they not watch their own film? It's simple math and common sense. Not only that... why are you drafting small fast LBs if you can't going to protect them up front? I really don't understand what they are thinking.
