I don't get what Pittsburgh is doing. Why not just stay spread out

<~~~ stole this from a Ravens board... even thosedipshits can see we ought to run a manningesque no huddle offense

Uh did y'all know Ben changes the plays at the line more often then even Payton manning in his prime?

Except on the road where we suck.... when askedabout it the cookie cutter crowd noise excuse comes from the coaching staff... alsomanning pretty muchgotcarteblanche tocall the play in the huddle.... we don't do that

Antdrew... Ben's been good for 5 or 7 years eh? Not since his Rookie season? Then how exactly did he get in that Top 10 All Time list in SO many categories?

What are you talking about????

I'll admit, I thought Ben was toast. He's not as mobile as he used to be, but that's Father Time. It happens
What the Colts game and last nights game did unequivocally show to me was two things:
1. Ben can still sling the rock
2. Haley, whether it's his ego, stubbornness or just plain stupidity is holding this offense back. Let 'em run no huddle. Seems like all the offensive players, not just Ben, take their play to another level when they do.

I feel even more strongly now, after a 40 point outing, that the OC needs to be fired. Just let Ben go out there and go up tempo. It works. It always has. Stop hamstringing what works

You guys do know that Haley can still talk to Ben in the headset up to a certain point when they run no huddle right??

The Steelers haven’t run much no-huddle this season, certainly not as much as in previous years. But one big reason has been that the team played six of its first nine games on the road. Another is that there are so many new players in the offense. Tight end Vance McDonald joined the team a week before the season. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a rookie. Martavis Bryant missed all of 2016.

When the Steelers have used the no-huddle, mostly at the end of a half or when trailing, they’ve had success. Six times this season they have gotten the ball late in a half and put points on the board using the no-huddle.

Moving forward, with five of the final seven games at Heinz Field, starting Thursday night against the Titans, the Steelers could lean on the no-huddle more often.

That would suit Roethlisberger, who brought the Steelers back from a 14-point deficit Sunday in a 20-17 win in Indianapolis for his 41st game-winning drive, just fine.

“It’s actually easier because that’s something that’s been in since day one,” Roethlisberger said. “So, rather than install a bunch of new plays, you go with what you know and have been doing for a long time.”

Roethlisberger has long been a proponent of the no-huddle. It allows him to scan the defense quickly and try – with help from Todd Haley through the speaker in his helmet – to get the Steelers into a play and set the game’s tempo.

“The name of the game,” Haley said, “is to put ourselves in a position to succeed when everything is on the line and we’d like to be able to do that at home.”

Yep, but the thing for me is the TEMPO. Whether it's giving Ben more responsibility or limiting Haley's ability to over think and get "cute", the Up Tempo no huddle makes this collection of talent on offense click. Give Haley the ability to slow things down and the offense sputters.

C'mon Ant, you can't tell me you don't see a HUGE difference between the huddle offense and the no huddle offense. I personally think Haley's sphincter tightens when he has too much time to think. The no huddle limits that propensity.

Doesn’t matter if we put 40 points up last night. That’s great and all, but I saw that Ben went for the big play over the first down at times. We can’t just be throwing the ball all game. If we give Brady the ball back that many times, I’ll have a heart attack.

Oh i like the no huddle. My post wasnt about that. More
towards people saying its all Ben when we go no huddle, no slight to Ben. Im just saying there is still communication between him and Haley.

Reading some articles and what not and everyone is now praising Haley - actually blaming the consistent poor performance on the players. Not one mention of running the no huddle.

Now, sure, the players are to blame for some of the issues. But, it was blatantly obvious to most that the Steelers needed to use more no huddle. They did last night and on 5 no huddle drives (the only drives they actually had in the game that didn't go three and out or so) where they scored 4 TD's and a FG. The only thing Haley did was allow Ben and the offense to live up to their potential and not hold them back like he has been all ******* year. Haley had very little to do with the success the O had last night. Ben and the rest of the O finally got in a rhythm when running the no huddle. Last night was fool proof on display for all to see that Haley was getting in the way of the O and that the no huddle works for this team.

If Haley reverses course, as I and most expect him to, and goes away from the no huddle, we will barely score over 20 points like the first 9 games of the season. Haley just needs to stay out of the way of the talent we have on O and let Ben do most of the play calling at the line.

Here! Here! Haley, just stay out of the way, let the talent perform, accept the kudos and hopefully ride off to a HC position somewhere like Cincy or Cleve (we would welcome the "automatic" wins)

The Quarterback

CBS flashed a stat that the Steelers are 7-14 against sub-.500 teams on the road since 2012. One of the constants in that struggle has been the inconsistent performance of Ben Roethlisberger.
Recently, I wrote about how he has regressed physically in comparison to similarly aged players at his position. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Alex Smith, and even Josh McCown, have all either maintained, or in most cases even increased, their strength and athleticism since entering the league. Roethlisberger’s speed and mobility have regressed substantially, to the point where he doesn’t practice on most Wednesdays. The coaching staff protects him as if he’s 45 rather than 35. But judging by the way he prepares his body when nobody's looking, it’s not surprising he’s not practicing throughout the week. And it’s a problem

Josh McCown? Don't know who this writer is, but comparing Ben's "physical regression" with Josh McCown's is blatantly ridiculous. Ben's started 193 NFL games, McCown has started 70. In fact, in the "prime" of his career, McCown went five years (2008-2012) where he attempted a grand total of 61 passes. Just a foolish comparison.

Brady is just an anomaly, and none of those other guys have taken the beating like Ben did early in his career.

And on Thursday, Ben looked just fine physically in the no-huddle, thanks.

Just in case last week’s come-from-behind victory over the Colts didn’t show you Roethlisberger still has it, he came out and threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns against the Titans. He was 20 of 23 passing in the second half. But there’s a reason why the Steelers don’t want him running the no-huddle all the time. He was sacked three times and hit five others. With Roethlisberger being 35, the Steelers don’t want him taking all those hits. Unless they need it.

Another upside to winning the SB is that Haley would almost surely be offered a HC gig somewhere. Of course The Bruce went to two SB's as OC, winning one, and didn't get a HC offer.

I get that Haley has a plan that protects Ben and controls the time but sometimes he just needs to let the reins go and make better calls that the stupid screen and the delayed run.

That's true, but a few years ago Ben rededicated himself during the offseason to arrive at camp in shape and it was noticeable in his appearance and his play. This year he was arguably in the worst shape of his life entering training camp and it shows in his lack of mobility in the pocket.
