Fire Fitchner....Promote Canada

Well, it looks like Art2 will be making the call again. because I read a couple days Randy's contract is up at end of season. hmm, Steelers bring in Canada this past offseason. seems to me that Randy won't be renewed, and Canada will be the new OC. which is why I will double down on a power struggle with those two.

Just let Canada take over a few weeks early!!

So you're saying Tomlin brought in Canada to be the OC in waiting. Yet the call is ARll's? I mean had Tomlin not brought in Canada, and Randy's contract wasn't renewed, necessitating a search for a new OC (ala Arians/Haley), then that scenario would make sense. But, since Tomlin did bring in Canada, and under the scenario presented, he is the OC in waiting, seems like the call was Tomlin's and ARll just didn't want to pay Randy to sit at home on his sofa this year.
But, not having any inside knowledge of what goes on inside the organization, I wouldn't say either scenario was fact for sure. I mean it would just be speculation and rumor mongering without proof.

So in the OC history of tge Steelers, tgere has often been a disconnect between the front office and coaches

The defensive coaches they hire usually want conservative playcalling... Noll originally named Moore to the role, Cowher started with erhardt... the Steelers front office rarely meddles, but when they have they typically have pushed more progressive passing systems... they forced the switch to joe walton,...

and they had chan gailey brought in to help open up the erhardt offense in the 90’s... In 95 there was absolutely a change to Gailey controlling the offense after a 3-4 start... the passing game opened up and supposedly erhardt was supposed to “retire” at the end of the season to save face, but he refused, was forced out and sued for age discrimination I believe...

Ray sherman was stripped of playcalling duties in 98... the front office was key in bringing in kevin gilbride, who , like walton , had a modern complicated offensive system that the kordell led offense couldn’t handle

The flip happened when the aggressive arians was forced out for the conservative Haley... like Erhardt, arians was forced-to “retire”

I totally could see them setting Canada up as the next OC... he is that kind of advanced offensive system coach the Rooneys have typically advocated when the current OC is too conservative...

We won, sure, but is anyone not on board with this after the first quarter/half woes of this team for years now?

Have Canada on the side line and keep discussing with fitcner what they see on the i pads to tell fitcher you got to see the s is down hill to pick up the crosser often Johnson so a medium pass would like to see more 10 yard post to chase or corner routes and deeper crosses by juju

The way the offense looked in the second half was night and day compared to how many games this year. I don't get it. Guys running open down the field, Ben hitting them in stride, diving TD catches, it was ******* amazing to watch. I know fans of other teams see this every week to a greater and lesser extent depending on the team, but they see it. It was like they flipped a switch. Crazy.

Yes especially if Fitchner is reasonable for the play calls in the last four games that called to hold Ben to throwing everything underneath. He needs to answer the second half offense today allowing ben to throw down the field and inside the hash marks.

there is an OBVIOUS and documented disconnect between how the offense looks in the scripted plays of the first quarter and how it looks when its pushing the ball downfield out of a hurryup or half huddle type offense with aggressive playcalls... the Oline has no power blocking aspects to it... it needs the deep passing game to pull some of the coverage back and not let them tee off on running plays with 9 or even 10 in the box...

again once all year have we scored on O more than one time in the first quarter... take away defensive tds and we are a bottom 3 team in that category... we are on a what 1-for- 2 1/2 years streak for scoring a td on the first drive and we havent scored a offensive point in the first quarter since week 9... and we didnt score any in weeks 7 or 8 either.... so for half of a season we scored 1 td and 2 field goals in the first quarter, all vs the same team.... thats some extremely bad gameplanning

In my eyes, Fichtner should and still be gone from over a year ago.

That opening drive doesn't mean much until it becomes years since scoring or directly related to the start of Fichtner scripting his plays hence taking over the OC job.

I agree but I’m also sure Ben has some say so in play calls and such. Not defending him just stating the obvious. Fichtner was kept because of Ben.

It’s amazing what happens when you are willing to throw the ball down field. All of a sudden there is no longer 9-10 defenders in the box.

You can see 1 common theme the last 4 weeks and many other times this year: the scripted game plan Fitchner creates all week socks ***

I still think even in his diminished skill/age- Ben starts winging it when behind, that's what happened today. A good OC should be able to build a solid offense with Ben, a talented corps of receivers, and 2 20-21 PRO BOWL LINEMAN!

Get Fitchner out of here, or at least make him a figure head the rest of the season. The window is closing and b.c this might be the best chance we have left with Ben

The game was on the line and we had 3rd and 2 with 2:30 left and the Colts have 1 timeout left. A first down essentially ends the game so Fitchner dials u a 1 yard sideline route that stops the clock and gives the Colts the ball with 2 :25 left they then run 4 plays and pick up 2 first downs before the 2 minute warning. We win DESPITE the piece of **** Tomlin and Fitchner.

Fichtner was not kept because of Ben, Fichtner and Tomlin are old college coaching buddies, he was Tomlins first hire here

After the first half I gave the Steelers a 0% chance of winning. I have no idea what happened it was a totally different team. We started throwing longer passes out of the blue and it opened everything up. My question is why did it take over 3.5 games to do this? Is our coaching so poor that they can not see this, did Fitchner did demoted at half time? I would love to know what is going on behind the scenes. Regardless I am definitely on board w/ getting rid of Randy.

BEN has had a physically tougher career than any QB that I can think of. The injury / bruising / bangattery / etc. is reason why he in shotgun more than any other QB and does challenge play alignment / players / etc but this isn't something new and our current OC should be adapt at this formation and variable play calls / alignment / personal. It just seem Fichtner has only a few plays and each time it's dictated with the personal on the field, doesn't fool many. First 1/2 is an example of this.

2nd 1/2 the "D" was a little more back on their heals as the muddle huddle / no huddle kept them that way. Combine in the down field effort and we actually seen a run or two that backed them up. Ben likes Fichtner in respects of he lets him toss and shot gun all the time. Ben want 50 throws a game and NO under center, Fichtner obliges him.

I'm afraid those two will retire simultainiuously and Randy's job is safe for that and Tomlin friend reasons.

I think Fitchner is out postseason... they didnt extend him, they brought in Canada... The rooneys have a history of forcing assistant changes moreso than any other area of the team... it usually goes just like this... Ben LOVED BA and the rooneys pushed him out the door... ERhardt sued them over it.... Noll was forced to take on Walton....

Last game Randy built a bunch of deep shots in early and when we didnt connect he just abandoned it...

Ben wasn't stepping into his throws in the first half. Second half he was. Did Ben get the ol' injection at the half?

For the record, today Chan Gailey resigned from Miami... he did so in part because their offense finished 22nd... which is not acceptable in this day and age...

For the record our offense finished 25th....

The stat that really got me was dead last in rushing. I've seen some bad offenses in my 45 years as a fan, but I can't remember seeing a more abysmal running game. I wonder what it feels like to have that kind of job security. I never had a job I could keep if I was the worst in the business.

in an offense with a HOF QB. Ben carries this offense.
