Finding something positive - Steelers 2020

I believe we're still due a 3rd round comp pick for Leveon, cause they axed Moncrief in time. I might be wrong.

It's at the end of the 3rd, so, essentially a 4th rounder. Either way, it won't be an impact player or even a starter (based on odds) in year 1.

Watt, Fitzpatrick, Bush.

Steelers found out the hard way JuJu and James are not reliable #1's, never were.

I don't have to listen to any of the idiots that thought they were at the beginning of the season.

Again about JuJu. Are people on here that stupid? Did you forget the dude has been injured or playing through injuries in every single game this year? He wasn't better than 90% in any game this year. Plus, he changed WR positions. Put him back where he was thriving and have him healthy next year and I pretty much guarantee things will be different. Add that and Ben is hopefully back and he will have a legit No. 2 WR, which we did NOT have for the first half of this season.

Our defense was the 2nd highest Fantasy Football defense. That's a pretty good assessment of the big play capabilities of that group.

Football Outsiders had our defense rated 3rd overall. We forced 38 turnovers and had 54 sacks.

I mean, those are some damn good numbers. In today's NFL it's hard to get any better than that. There is almost no way we stay THAT good next year, regardless, just because it's so hard to duplicate sack and turnover numbers year-to-year.

It's really too bad such a good year defensively was wasted after Roethlisberger went down and our offense just started ******** the bed. I mean Football Outsiders has us 31st out of 32 teams in Offense. We scored an ABYSMAL 1.50 points per possession (in today's NFL, anything under 2.0 is bad)., which was 29th.

I mean, for all the optimism about the record and hopes of playoffs down to the last week, this was an atrocious offensive football team and if it wasn't for the defense's high turnovers and sacks, we should have been 5-11 or worse.

Look, if we can somehow stay a top-5 defense and Roethlisberger takes this offense back up to 2.0 points per possession, that is going to equate to 10-12 wins. That's really the goal or hope at this point. Sure, there are some peripheral pieces that need updates, turned over, improved, but it really comes down to that. Plain and simple.

I'm hoping we can coach the Senior Bowl. IT gives you an earlier look to certain players your interested in and then other teams wont know that they are on your radar.

This is true. We will need to hit homeruns on all our picks

I really like DJ.

This is really quite remarkable, if you think of all the big name WR's out there...

Turned out to be an awesome trade. No way in hell would we ever get a player of Minkah's caliber at #18. Great job Colbert!

Squid, I hear you man and I'm totally ready for a change at the helm, but as sure as the Sun rises in the East, Tomlin will continue to be the HC until he's ready to retire. Just accept it.

Another add to the season's end list.... it really bugged me that we let OT Fred Johnson go. He was a great find as an UDFA, then shocked the world when he made the roster early on.

To let him walk - with our aging O-line - was a travesty, in my opinion. Watching him play for the Bengals, it seems he could have given Villeneuva a run for his money and been a mainstay on the line for years to come. This one's gonna sting for a while.

I'm not sure but I don't think player evaluation and development is one of our strong suits. :)

If Ben is less than his usual self next year he’ll get another pass and they will consider 2019 as a pass because of Ben’s absence. Tomlin will have to have two disappointing years in a row before they consider getting rid of him so I think the earliest Tomlin is gone is 2022. Its likely Tomlin retires before he is fired.

Tomlin has a life time of excuses now. Ben is old, hurt or retired. They don't have a QB.. they have young QBs that need time to grow. ETC... They had Ben last year and didn't make the playoffs. What's going to be different next year?

I don't think I'll ever get over the comment Tomlin made early in this season, "you play defense differently when Ben is at QB, than when he isn't". WTF!

The defense? You have to admit the defense made improvements between 2018 and 2019.

If we can hold on to those improvements, maybe that difference gets us into the playoffs.

With New England looking somewhat mortal, that leaves Baltimore and Kansas City as the likely "teams to beat" in 2020. We've traditionally played both of those teams tough over the years.

The defense was given a ton of early TOs by other teams. Not forced turnovers but just balls lying on the ground turnovers. They were lucky this past season. They also got hammered every time they played a good offense. This year, like next year, they play a lot of just bad teams. They also played 7 games against rookies coaching staffs. As the year wore on teams figured out how to play them. Next year teams will have more film on them and there are some older players on the defense. Heyward, Barron, Williams, Hayden, and Alualu are all in their 30s. We also don't know what's going to happen with Tuitt, Dupree or Hargrave.

While that's true, without MF, the Steelers would have finished much lower in the standings. No way in hell this team goes 8-5 without him.

It is without question that the defense made a massive improvement in 2019. But yeah they should have. And I still don't really like the philosophy, which was largely bend don't break. I would prefer to see the majority of the defense up near the line creating confusion more frequently. They also gave up a ton of third and forevers by playing soft. They were good in their red zone, but I would like to move that redzone down the field. Play with a mentality of yeah, you might hit us with a long TD here or there, but we will get you a lot more than you are going to get us.

now if only we could get 9 first rounders on offense to be good
