Extension for Mike Tomlin?

It's getting about that time when a new contract is negotiated with Mike Tomlin. If Mike Tomlin's contract is extended this off-season by Art II, how would you feel? I do realize that 90% of Steeler fans want him fired, but what if he gets a shiny new contract?

Personally, I would see how this off-season and the upcoming season plays out before I get into any talks with him. His seat should be smoking and I hope they take a 'wait & see' approach. I'll be highly disappointed if they rush to the podium again to ink a new deal.

I don't forsee him getting an extension this off-season. We shall see though.

There's no reason to give him one now, make him coach next year with a little heat on his seat and see how he responds.

He will get extended. The Rooney’s aren’t going to dump a minority coach after putting sn affirmative action rule in place. They don’t want to lose progressive street cred or lose face by looking like hypocrites by getting rid of a minority HC.

Can you close this ******* thread?

No thread starting for this cat for 30 days......

I would like to extend my foot up his ***, but that is the only favorable extension I would be down with.

If it were me, I'd wait to extend him but I think he will get the extension this off-season. The scary thing here is Harrison all but confirmed what many have been saying about Tomlin running the D and we have Tomlin saying he is going to take more control of the D. If so, why is Butler even there.

If its going to happen then it will be this summer in July before training camp. At least thats been the norm for Tomlin receiving extensions when he has two years left on his contract which he does through the 2020 season.

Now if Art II does indeed give Tomlin an extension its a mistake since you're essentially telling him, its ok Mike, you're doing a good job and here's your reward. That would be a terrible message sent to not only Tomlin but to the team, the fans and the organization in that the owner thinks Tomlin is doing a good job and everything is status quo. What Art II needs to do is not extend Tomlin therefore sending the message that things have to change and Tomlin has to understand that things have to change and I'm not rewarding you with any extension until they do. This is all on Artie now and how he handles this will dictate the future of this team for many a season.

Nice troll job title wording ha ha ha ha. Kudos to you. If you wanted to set off half the board in a nanosecond you figured out a way to do it.

Hardly.
In that respect, he's been coach for 12 years now.
The only two coaches with longer tenures are Billy Cheat and NO Payton.....you know, white guys.
If they let him retire like they did with Noll, Cowher, Arians, etc. than all is status quo.
This off-season will be the telltale sign for a LOT of things for this team.

He doesn't deserve an extension as he needs this team to win 3 playoff games in a row before the extension happens. He should have had the ultimatum given prior to last extension. His closer presser showed in his eyes he had a very stern talking to so it's a wait and see for me and I'm hoping the OWNER(s) feel the same way.

After this season? Art would be a moron of epic proportions to do that this offseason. If he were to offer Tomlin an extension now, he's going to lose the support of at least 50% of the fans.

By contrast if he fires Tomlin and has one of the playoff coaches in mind the opposite will happen.

How long was Marvin Lewis the head coach in Cincinnati? Try 15 years and he never won anything. His playoff record was terrible and the fans suffered through many seasons. Lewis was of African American decent, so saying its some sort of white privilege for a head coach to last in the NFL is just plain wrong.

Sean Petyon, for example, has 12 playoff appearances, 7 division titles, and a super bowl victory. That's why he stays.

ADD in the fact that Lewis was cheap labor for a very cheap owner.

This post is an exact deja vu of two years ago when they last extended him. I was hoping for them to wait a year to "prove it", but they ****** up with the re-up. Hope they don't make that mistake again.

I hope he does get extended just to see you yahoos **** your pants for another couple of months!

Of course you do, you would rather see the Steelers fail with Tomlin as the captain.
