Excitement

I can just about chalk it up to an unmotivated locker room. The Steelers meant something when they had players like Ward, Bettis, Polanalu etc. There was a pride in being a Steelers player and the fans felt it. I like Brown, Bell and Shazier but they don't have that same mystique as the previous group. All aside, the Steelers are really hampered down by the nfl's commercialism. Afterall the Steelers were the only team against the current CBA correct?

Open a few beers and cheers to whoopin the G-strings of new york

I agree that those players don't have the same passion. Heyward and Harrison do. And so does Mitchell. Those guys do care about making plays and firing a team up. On offense, it's more about effort than firing guys up. The big 3 are a treat to watch when they are executing. When they're having a down game, I have yet to see a fire in them to right the ship this season.

Used to seem like teams hated each other, like there were actual rivalries. Now the NFL is all business. The league favors fantasy football, high scoring, constant market expansion to generate tv revenues, etc. A whatever it takes to make $ mentality. The NFL used to be a competitive sport competition and now it seems to be all business, this attitude/mentality is apparent in 95%+ of the players as well. For me this really creates a bit of detachment from an emotional standpoint. After your team has given up a late lead to a rival in what should be a meaningful game and all the guys are hugging and smiling with the opponents that just stole your lunch money you quickly realize they are not emotionally connected to winning as their paycheck is not dependent on it. If the players don't give a crap about the outcome it's really hard for me to get worked up about it.

Switch to a league where all players get an equal base salary and then in game stats create bonus money on top of the salary and only the winning team earns the bonus money and watch guys actually try to win. Right now the players are all just one big family sitting around eating a growing pie together.

This is what Hines did perfectly for the offense when he was playing. He would lay someone out on a block and really get the offense and the whole team fired up. To me, that is part of being a true leader.
Rather than being a spokesman, I think it's about sparking the team when it is needed.

Blitzburgh is no more. Gone are the days when our defense imposed its will. Its been a few years since our defense has been dominant. Missing in the draft has consequences and there is no bigger consequence than being stuck with inefficient players and nothing better behind them.

Part of that was a reflection of BC's in your face approach. These players need guiding and adjusting, as well as making changes as they are needed, opposed to waiting until it is painfully obvious before you make a change.

Until there is new coaching in place, you will see the roller coaster back n forth team that we have been seeing yearly.

I agree. Go back to LeGarett Blount's reaction towards Tomlin and I wouldn't be surprised if other players have that same attitude. Rather than making the sporting news drama they just go out and play to get the check

I think it is part of it that too many of these players lack that competitive fire. Most of the NFL is now kids who grew up with everybody getting a trophy. It seems a large portion are now more concerned with getting followers on Twitter than winning championships.

I can't stand this trading jerseys thing that happens all the time.

The college game is getting better because there is more excitement. The teams seem to play harder. They actually care. The NFL is becoming a pillow fight each week.

The league is so sanitized and corporate now. Not to mention all the other factors folks are mentioning, the flags, the oppressive discipline from the league office, the risk of concussion/CTE.. It's rare to turn on an NFL game and seeing players having fun and playing with passion for the game. They are playing for checks now because they have to - they really don't make much in relation to the larger landscape of pro sports (smaller contracts with less guaranteed money) and their careers are very short. Watching the game is more fun when the players are having fun. Just doesn't seem like they are

The NFL has truly turned into the "No Fun League." Remember the Fun Bunch? The Iggy Shuffle? Neon Deion? Even T.O. taking a Sharpie out of his sock...I used to love that kind of stuff.

Sanitized...good word. I just don't see what is so terribly wrong with guys expressing themselves after scoring touchdowns or making big plays.

Plus, it's not enough for the league to promote itself anymore. It has to dilute it's brand while cross promoting other causes. Sept is Latino month. Oct is Breast Cancer, Nov is Armed forces. It's creating a league where your favorite team is not just black and yellow. It's black, yellow, and pink...

To me its not about the league.

If jones, timons and shazier were playing smashmouth.. I wouldn't think twice about goodells ambiguity and B.S.

I've thought about it. Our defense blows and is no fun to watch. That's my problem.

I always start getting excited about this team at this point when we are in the hunt late in the season because I believe. In spite of my feelings about Tomlin, I still think we can do some damage. It just feels so fragile with this team. We need to spank the Gints to get our mojo going.

Watching games isn't the same for me anymore.

I think its the excitement level of the team.

Not real sure, but I watch this defense and its a shell of the defenses we had in the past ,, in 90's and thru 2008.

The most excitement I get is seeing Deebo chase a play down or get after a QB. That's it. I like watching how far our punter can kick it sometimes too.

Ben can throw it but rarely throws to anyone besides AB. And AB makes a play and is an asshat .

While I think Leveon is/can be a great back,, this dancing thing is too much.. I want the bus back.

I know it just sounds like bitching,, But I really miss The excitement and wanting To watch the game.

can a mod please move this to general discussion.

I was just talking about this to my son, I too am not excited about the Steelers like I used to be. You guys can call me an fng and make fun all you want, but they have no urgency, and if they say they do I cant tell, I am zoned into every game and I noticed something is different. Yes the first down celebrations annoy me, but i get it they are trying to excite the team and fans. Admittedly I dont understand the younger generation which Bell & Brown are part of and while Ben is older he doesnt get a pass. I love all these guys but honestly either its all fixed and they are just not good at selling it, or they are mailing it in for another reason.I gotta say last year I started to feel better about coach cool shades, but now not so much!!

First down celebrations annoy the **** outta me. Don't get the big puffing up about a good tackle either. They're supposed to do that stuff. They're professional ******* football players. If they have to show some reaction to a play, would prefer some demonstration of frustration when they miss a tackle or don't make a first down. Sure, a big play either way in a critical situation deserves whatever, but in the course of normal play it would be nice to feel like they aren't surprised or feel like they did something special when they play solid football.

Actually, I think this is where the head coach could start ingraining expectations ala Chuck Noll. During a film session, it seems like the coach could ask, "What the **** are you celebrating about here?". Start setting the tone. Whatever.

Coach Bryant would have a fit..."act like you've made a first down before" he would say lol.

I still get ******* amped for the Steelers. I'd say going to most of the games helps. Fire up for sunday!

Todays game was much better especially on Defense. Picks, pressures, batted balls, goal line stands,, a safety.. and I do believe I saw a sack or three
