Ed was a FS, Troy was a SS. Both of them had the ability to freelance in their offenses. Troy attacked the run, was a better tackler, and was the best pre-snap safety i've ever seen. Ed was a better pass defender and ball hawk. He always knew where the play was going and seemed to anticipate the point of reception before the ball was thrown. Troy used his god given speed to hang with any player and attack the football in the air.
Both are 2 very different players. Skill wise, it's all Troy. Film study and anticipation, Ed has the edge. Ed was really good at supporting the run as well, he hit hard, and he took fumbles to the house.
The biggest difference between the 2 of them? No Ratbird receiver ever knocked Troy out of a game...
(And Suggs is a horsefaced dickbag, but to not look past his long face and see how successful he was during his long career, you're missing out on a HOF caliber career. He came back from a torn achilles during the same season, and won a SB, that's a HOF story there.)
