Why not? He would be a fine left guard. Cost to much? Only a zone blocker? To old?

league minimum..........

I would have to ask who he out performs on our roster now. He was released for a reason from the jets and I would want to know why as he could be finished as a player or is he too expensive? What ever the reason for it would be something to consider.

He's a pro bowl guard, who the Eagles felt was not worth 5.5 million a year at age 33. Chip Kelly has been cleaning house. Can Mathis start for us? Sure, but at what cost? His agent said a half dozen teams are interested, which likely means 2-3 teams will make serious offers.

Foster becomes a free agent next year ( 2016 ). DeCastro becomes a free agent in 2017. Our best reserve guard is likely Cody Wallace who's just okay in relief, but would likely become a liability if forced to start multiple games in a row.

If Evans wants to play here for two years at six million for the contract term I'd say he's worth it. Then we could trade Foster, or wait until he becomes a free agent, and have a good chance to pick up a compensatory selection.

**Pro Football Focus rated Mathis as the best guard in the NFL for the 2011, 2012, and 2013 season. In 2014 he was rated as the second best guard in the league despite missing seven games due to injury.**

I wonder what the injury was and is he now maybe unreliable because of it.

Well since he was released by the Eagles not the jets..... There doesn't have to be a reason lol. Then again he's from Philly.

I'd look into it, but remeber cap space and luxury don't mix. If healthy, he will definately comand more than VET minimum. As coach said, maybe 3mil a year, maybe, but I feel someone else will getr him for higher $$$

Salute the nation

Hey there Corp, I resemble that comment! No, no, really Philthydelphia does suck at times, especially where it pertains to sports fans...

Unknown. Chip Kelly is a my way or highway type of guy. That could be it as well.

At 33 he may not have much left and his body might be breaking down. We signed a tackle a few years ago who came in passed the physical and I believe on the first day of practice or first game warm ups tore something and was done for the year. I do not believe he ever played a snap. I would be leery of anyone on the end of their career, we got lucky with Flozel Adams not sure how many others are likely to be that good in the twilight of their careers.
