Evaluating Trubisky - too early edition

Exactly what I said. I never said preseason is same as regular season. You have an interesting way of interpreting things! He has certainly done enough to earn the opportunity to see what he can do. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board would agree with that. Watching Trubisky struggle is driving me crazy! I can't stand it. Couple that with The Canada Effect and it's a recipe for a disasterous season. If Pickett bombs I'll be the first to eat crow but I want this kid to get the experience now...not 3 years from now when Watt is on the downside of his career and Cam Heyward is in his final season and we've lost others to Free Agency. Let Pickett play this year and perhaps he flashes, who knows and next season could be a really special season provided he can handle the limelight. I really feel like he is more NFL ready now than Ben was in 2004 and they have similar teams around them.....I actually think this team offensively has more weapons than Ben had. And for what it's worth the O-line didn't look horrible today.....but no one's talking about that.
you never said it was the same but you did not qualify that you meant just the preseason

the way you wrote your posts seems to indicate you meant the "NFL game" whether preseason or not

you just like to try and qualify your bullshit after the fact

ol may not have been horrible but there were not good either

Tomlin and Canada had the entire off-season, OTA's, Preseason, to finely craft this tricky, shifty offense. This is the result.
No kidding. All of that time and practice and this is the best you can come up with? They just dusted off last years offensive
abortion of a playbook..

I was screaming for this.
We all knew it was going to take a year or two with that bridge QB. Hell Pickett might be that bridge QB but why not give Pickett his chance unless Tomlin is trying to protect his personal record...

Really disappointed in Trubisky so far. In addition to his shortcomings between the lines, now that I've watched him up close for a couple of games, to me he just doesn't seem to exude the alpha male leadership abilities that are needed to be have great success as an NFL quarterback. It's like he's just out there going through the motions for a paycheck, no real heart or passion for the game. Polar opposite of Ben.

Plus it probably doesn't help that the entire home crowd in the stadium is chanting "Kenny...Kenny" when things aren't going well for the guy. Not a confidence-builder.

You could f*ck up a great quarterback with this kind of playcalling and OL coaching. Could ruin Pickett.

if the Steelers are gonna suck c*ck, they might as well choke on it with Pickett on mop-up, garbage duty for experience against backups.

This was my biggest knock on Mitch when people were talking about him coming over. He is just so low key. He got named a captain so he must have done something right

Whats the difference it's all the same play calling and all the same OL. If it ruins Pickett in one season we know he ain't it.

At this point I see no reason not to play him.... I don't see why we could not have done this with Mason and put that Mitch money towards OL maybe ILB.
See Carr, David.

The offensive line is doing better than I anticipated. Yeah, the run blocking is bad but running on 1st down 80% of the time against 8-man fronts can do that.

The pass protection yesterday was pretty good. We will certainly see this Thursday how good when the face Garrett and Clowney. But the pass protection is good enough that Kenny is not going to get hammered. Further, the collection of skill position players is enough that he will have somebody open or somebody he can throw open. DJ, Claypool, Pickens, Freiermuth, and Harris are all talented receivers.

Let Mitch play Thursday. After the offense does its usual series of 3-and-outs and puts up 13 points, make the change.

I don’t really know what everyone expected of Trabisky… he is what he is… of his 52 career starts he has 7 300+ yard passing games and 22 under 200… (not counting the one he got hurt with only 9 yards passing) he makes one or two reads and dumps it off… he is a typical nfl starter. Yeah he got drafted 2 overall, but that doesn’t mean anything past draft day… he isn’t a pocket passer. He is better on rollouts…

Also he doesn’t seem to have timing down with all these guys..

There was a third down play late yesterday where they showed blitz and he basically adjusted to the dump off almost at the get go… one glance at dj and then right to the guy waiting to be tackled five yards short of the first…

Sure you don’t want to force things too much, but you can’t just let presnap dictate where they want you to go… thats all Bb did… showed him something and gave him a short out that achieves nothing all day long

Yes, really. Trubisky has as good or better pass protection than QB's for the Bengals, Browns, Bears, Chargers and that is based solely on other teams I have watched.

He gets 3 seconds of a clean pocket. He has room to maneuver and buy time after that. That is all a QB needs or can expect in today's NFL. The days of Ben getting 4 seconds of a clean pocket and buying another 4 seconds by shaking off tacklers and moving around are gone.

Primary focus is that Canada's offense is ****. Fix it or be gone.

Mitch and Kenny have similar games - though I believe Mitch was named the #1 QB since he's a veteran with a pedigree, sat a year behind arguably the best QB in football and seemed to have mentally grasped Canada's offense. He also did a lot of off-season things to bond with new teammates and create some sort of chemistry. Mitch is a few years older than Kenny, but I'll also venture to say that Kenny isn't the typical rookie QB since he's 24. Kenny isn't lacking in confidence and has the same mobility as Mitch - and probably a lot more.

I'll also say that Mitch starts Thursday and if we do not score more than 1-2 touchdowns on offense, then Kenny should start the next game going forward. That would give Kenny a little more than a week to get first team reps and feel more confident (and I don't believe he lacks confidence, nor do I believe he has an ego issue).

This sounds reasonable.

The finger pointing has already begun, although not overtly.

Trubisky seems frustrated with the play calls.
Tomlin seems frustrated with Trubisky's decisions.
Receivers are frustrated with the lack of throws.

Whoever. Whatever. However. The results speak for themselves.

But for 5 turnovers against the Bengals, this team is an ugly 0-2.

And yes anyone over Canada calling the plays: Tomlin (so he’d be fully accountable-would never happen), Flores, the WR coach, a **** flinging monkey…literally anyone else cuz the amount of disconnect of the offensive side of the ball is staggering.

Someone photoshop Canada's face and "NFL" into this pic. I mean, we need to laugh at this whole debacle or we'll go nuts.

I had a feeling it would be rough waters, so did others. Now the question is will the team sink or swim?

Of all the offseason FA QB's (Winston, Mariotta, Trubisky, etc.), I think the majority here at SN wanted Trubisky. We all knew transitioning from Ben to whoever was going to be a challenge. What we didn't know was that 1) the offensive playcalling (and yes, it certainly is offensive...) was going to continue to be so ridiculously bad, and 2) Mitch's pre-draft scouting reports saying he had "inconsistent decision-making" were going to ring true, this many years into his career. SN rejoiced at the announcement of his signing. I know I did. We felt fortunate to sign him. But then Pickett drops to us in the draft; completely unexpected. So what now? See below....

I'll also say that Mitch starts Thursday and if we do not score more than 1-2 touchdowns on offense, then Kenny should start the next game going forward.

This is the ideal plan from here on. Mitch's numbers are so pedestrian at this point that any further experimentation with the same results would lead to yet another disappointing season. I'm willing to take a shot with KP... if Mitch's trajectory doesn't suddenly shoot straight up.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have two games against the stains and the Yets. If the Steelers cannot find a way to get Pickett into both or one of these games, then WTF?

How low has this franchise gone when even its most ardent fans argue about easing a #1 pick into a game against the ...... stains. And with the perennial doormats of the AFC East up next, with 10 days to get ready, how could you not say to Trubisky: "own the Factory of Sadness by halftime on Thursday or Kenny goes in"?

Imagine having Kenny with a few games under his belt by the return of TJ?

The easing QBs in made more sense back in the distant past when college teams ran the option and bs like that

Now with colleges running pro style
Offenses and QBs playing more than 1-2 years after waiting for their jr/sr moment in college they seem to come in way more prepared

KP was supposed to be the most pro ready of the bunch. Heck let’s had almost as many reps as T biscuit between college/pro combined.

If T biscuit can’t start putting points on the board somebody has to step in and save Tomlin’s no losing season streak
