End of the year review on Jarvis Jones.

2 sacks.

That's tough man. Pancaking Joe Thomas is good. But 2 sacks. There's just not much more you can say about that.

Better than ONE, but less than THREE. How many did HARRISON have and what were the play counts of each of these two individuals. Keep Jarvis his final rookie year and see what happens, but be prepared to move on !!!!!! Third year here and ONLY 2 sacks.

Salute the nation

Joe Thomas must have slipped because it looked like when he put his legs in the ground to set he goes sliding back. Jones is definitely a bust and though my pick that year is delegated to return man in Cordarrel Patterson I still am going to talk crap about us picking Jarvis Jones lol

If you watch the video again, Thomas was actually tripped by the guard so it's not even as good as it looks for Jarvis.

James Harrison recorded 3 of his 5 sacks in one quarter of the blowout win against the Colts, in obvious passing situations against a left tackle who should be delivering packages for FedEx.

True beans, but wasn't Uncle Jarvis in any "obvious passing situations" also?? Not hounding yaz, but when comparing an "old guy" to young up and coming, seems the young guy has fallen short.

Harrison is 37, Jones is what 24 or 25? The reason harrison played so much is because Jones wasn't/isn't that good. At best he might turn into an average OLB, but I doubt it.

JJ ceiling is probably Clark Haggans material and that is slipping away every season because by this point in his career he was a 6+ sack OLB.

We didn't have a bunch of big leads this season that allowed our pass rushers to "tee off" on the QB. The Colts games (and the 49ers) were the best two shots we had, and James Harrison refused to give way to Jarvis at the end of the Colts game. Harrison wants the Steelers all time sack record and that was his best shot to rack up stats.

I'm not excusing Jarvis. He didn't produce nearly enough as a rusher this year, either in sacks or pressures. But Harrison took more snaps than Jarvis and only had 2 sacks that weren't cheapies, in my opinion. The good news is that the Jarvis-Harrison combo did account for 3 sacks in the playoffs.

That's probably true (about the ceiling). But Haggans had a lot more opportunities to get sacks since he wasn't sharing time at OLB.

Before the season started Joey Porter said there would be a strict rotation. So that was not the reason

Watch us pick up his option. the guy is a backup...at best

I thought if we picked it up we are on the hook for 8 mil or so

They said they wanted to limit Harrisons snaps because of his age, but he ended up playing way more than they planned on.

And yet...

Any way you slice it... 5 > 2

Math, she can be a cruel mistress.

Jones is 26 and will be 27 next season it's not like he's a young kid he should be at his peak potential about now

And very few QB pressures, and few tackles vs the run. Essentially Jones is easily blocked and lacks the size and speed to make plays.

Upgrading is a must.

Harrison had two sacks in the playoffs. This is as much as Jones had during the 16 game season. James is old, but still good enough to spot duty. 5 sacks, 4 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, 1 int. Pretty good for a part time player who does not start. And his leadership helps.

I hope he's willing to play one more year on the cheap (he's due in the neighborhood of $1.25 million next year).
