Terrell Edmunds is entering his second season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That familiarity doesn’t mean the 22-year-old strong safety isn’t in awe when in the company of one of the best to play his position.

Several former and current Steelers players recently conducted a fan camp in Mexico City. Edmunds attended as did Donnie Shell, an inaugural member of the Steelers’ Hall of Honor.

In a promotional video released by the team, Shell said he and Edmunds boarded a flight in Charlotte and spent the time on the airplane forming a bond.

“I talked old school. He talked new school,” Shell said.

Edmunds admitted he was “starstruck for a second” while talking to a Shell, whose 51 career interceptions remain the most in NFL history for a strong safety.

Shell was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time Super Bowl champion in his 14 seasons with the Steelers. Many in the game believe he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Steelers put him in the Hall of Honor in 2017.

“It’s always nice to talk to a legend, to pick his brain, really,” Edmunds said. “Just to mimic anything he did on the field would be tremendous. I’m trying to mimic my game after guys like him, like Troy (Polamalu), other big-time guys that came from Steeler Nation.”

Shell said he expects Edmunds to “make a lot of plays” in his sophomore NFL season.

Also making the trip to Mexico City was outside linebacker Bud Dupree and former players Max Starks, Charlie Batch and Rocky Bleier.

One of the most underrated Steelers. Should be in the Hall, but the bias on those 70s clubs will alway ensue.

Shell is an all time favorite of mine. When conversation about the 70's come up, I actually make it a point to mention Shell and Wagner because I think neither gets the love they deserve. If Edmunds can capture my attention like that...hooooboy....doom to Balt, Cinc, Cle and their infantesimales.*

*sorry man, infentisimales just hit mes as one of the funniest things ever. Its like an all you can eat tamale. I mean on disrespect.

it is so hard to overlook them when talking about that defense, But 51 interceptions by a strong safety and his hit on Campbell are good talking points

BAM! That is gold right there. Reminds me of a a little story...as a kid I went to football camp. We had an LB from the Bills come talk to us. I don't even remember who the **** that was and probably wouldn't even remember the day if it weren't for some kid asking, "What's it like to hit Earl Campbell?". The dude's answer, "Nobody hit that guy, he hit you."

I mean, I was just a lad, but I seem to recall the thought, "Except Pittsburgh" going through my head. **** tho, my hat off to Earl....dude was a ******* beast. If he didn't play for the enemy, I might have actually liked him.

I was born and raised in Houston and hated everything about the Oilers and Cowboys....but I respected the hell out of Campbell. He was fun to watch play and no showboat at all in him.

Donnie shell was my camp counselor at Football camp back in summer 84. He is a great guy.

Good to hear Shell news, we could always use more old school Steeler stories. Always a good read. Back when football was played like it is supposed to be played. Not the watered down bullshit version we see now.

On those INTs. Since he became a starter until 35 his last year he had at least 3 INTs a year. That is fricken impressive. That is a wow stat.

One of the best players at his position ever...hopefully Donnie imparts some wisdom to the young man.

Would be amazingly nice to have this conversation about Edmonds in about 15 years.................. :)

Salute the nation
