Da U fired coach Al Golden after a bad loss to Clemson. Partly because former players like whoremonger Sapp and others called for it. Now Ed Reed is speaking up to say that ex players want a say in the hire and that he'd be interested in it himself.

Here's the article
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...tertain-offer-says-players-want-input-in-hire

It's laughable when players who have never coached before think they can break in at the head coaching level. Particularly in college where you have to set up a whole recruiting network.

I think Miami is one of the worst coaching jobs college or pro. You have a fickle, bandwagon fanbase that only shows up if you are a top 10 team. You have vocal ex players who will second guess everything you do publicly, and worst of all, Miami does not invest in the program.

Miami is actually a small private school. Their administrators see them as an elite academic institution and would just as soon drop football if it didn't generate so much cash. The result is that Miami has some of the worst facilities in FBS. I'd bet many recruits has better high school facilities than what they see when they visit Da U.

I read that on a ticker and laughed. I was like work with the University to help improve the program. OK. Head coach. Really? I'm sure Reed knows plenty of football but a lot goes into a job like that.

He couldn't handle the banners from the losing aftermath.

Agreed. Most great athletes have that instinct that is not coachable anyways. I think Ed Reed knows that

I still enjoy watching the Penn State Miami game in 1987 when the players from the U showed up in combat fatigues figuring the game was theirs. I think they had around half a dozen future first round picks on the team and Testaverde ended up throwing 5 picks in the loss.

I live near Miami and know a big time booster.

I think Ed Reed would be an excellent coach.

Not only was he a legendary Hurricane, he was also a very smart player. An overachiever type who played to his potential.

It's too bad he played for the Rats. But in UM's case, I'd take him over a recycled Butch Davis

Legendary player from the program ... Check
Smart player ..... Check
Previous coaching experience ... Uh-Oh

It's not so easy to walk in off the street and coach a H.S. team; let alone a major college football program. And, as has been pointed out, it's not all about the X's and the O's. You can surround yourself with the people to handle that. There's program monitoring (look at Pitino in BB), dealing with the Administrators, dealing with boosters, dealing with recruiting and convincing kids to want to come there and parents that it's a good idea to send their kid. Heck, I'm sure there's a helluva lot more involved too ..

He would make a good secondary coach. If we didn't have Carnell I'd consider hiring Ed Reed. Hell, I'd consider bringing him on anyways.

Hi, Buckeye. You might remember I told you Urban Myer would be wise to switch his QB's.

At any rate, Reed is a master of the defense. The Cane's defense is being coached by Al Golden's buddy. Reed can fix the defense. That much I'm sure of.

It has been my observation in sports that the smart over acheiver types as players tend to make good coaches.

He would, however, need a good offensive coordinator, as that is not what Reed is familar with. Pick the best QB coach from a large progam I say and offer him an OC job.

UM does not have a large budget. I think they can bring in Ed Reed for cheap, and the fans, X players, and alumni would be very happy.

Reed is a master of the defense.
Well, he can certainly sit back and play centerfield better than anybody else. I suppose he could have 11 guys do THAT! maybe they'd lead the NCAA in interceptions. You know, if anybody ever threw on them...

I saw on KDKA that James Franklin's name was mentioned. Did his agent float that or Miami?

Franklin's going nowhere. Especially not to a bad job like Miami. Reporters just mention everybody. I saw Charlie Strong mentioned too. Why would anybody leave Penn State or Texas, 2 of the best jobs, for Miami, one of the worst?

Miami is a job for a young coach that needs a step up or an old coach that needs a last chance. I can't see an established coach at a good program leaving for that dumpster fire.

USC is the big jobs. I won't be surprised if coaches feign interest in Miami to get a better offer from USC or their own school.

USC should try for Mark Richt of Georgia. He's a good coach that never could break through at Georgia. His seat might be getting hot after another disappointing season and a jump to a prestige job like USC could start to look good.

Ed Reed as a play, good job.
Ed Reed as a coach, NOT so good job.

No way in hell he could step right in and be a good coach. What's his past coaching experience???? High school??? pewees???? He may have a clue as to football game, but coaching isn't just show up and bark orders. It takes a man of many hats to coach, even in the minors. Hire him as i'm not much of a miami fan so they'd be bortom feeders and that's OK by me.

I couldn't care less about Miami, I would love to see him put the money where his mouth is and coach the team. Are all the former players gonna call for his head when he is failing? Or would he surprise us all?

man.... from what i've learned here, it doesnt take much to be a coach.
they could hire DaFarriorBus and be good or bad.

Ed Reed could be Kanye Wests' vice president. Wow. Talk about leadership!

I say hire Reed as the assistant defensive coordinator for the rest of this year and see how he works out. Reed knows this game. This way your box can be checked. What do you think? The university of Miami doesn't have the cash to hire a big time name coach that will ask for 3 million or more a year.
