Early thoughts on the open OLB spot.

James Harrison remains out of action. Given his age and inactivity in camp, it's hard to know what the old legend has left. I'd say due to his age, he's a spot duty player only at this point, but I wouldn't say that to his face!

It is freakin' the beginning of camp.....A vet of Harrison's ilk will not be doing anything of note. Of course we all saw him pushing around the weights on the sled last week.

HE IS NOT SPOT DUTY AT THIS POINT....He is getting ready for the long haul

Dear Coach,

The Steelers released their first depth chart today. The following sentence is from the official release...

Thanks for looking,
Justin

WOW, that is a shock for me. I usually rely on ourlads http://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/PIT because they seem to follow it pretty well.

Boy did they throw me a curve on ILBers. My boy 'Red' is behind Johnson AND Fort.....not what I expected.

Not listing the injured players on the chart is confusing me too. Did they always do that or am I just having another bout of dementia ?

Thanks 81 for posting this.

I appreciate you for posting it 81, but I did notice that Pouncey and Mitchell both are not on the team...

Just in time as Harrison put on the pads for the first time this camp on the 11th.

He participated in Fanfest. A nod to "us" the fans. The next full practice he was back in sweats. If you think his participation then solidified him being the #1 ROLB, you are delusional. Only one thing would prevent him from not being the starter.

Well Ike...

Remember Watt was my mock draft #1 pick. I'm glad he won the job, and by the looks of it he's an impact rookie defender.

I remember a lot of folks picking Watt so don't make it out as brilliance, just lucky with the odds.....so give yourself a golf clap for posterity sakes.

I hope the kid is the read deal and is DROY, but I pause my enthusiasm as productively optimistic. There are rookie walls.....and defensive players are not immune.

Watt has a lot of the intangables to be a VERY good OLB. I'd hold off on DROY awards for now. Yes I want him to acheive that and then some but first let's let the season play out a little. Who didn't have TJ as a 1st rnd pick for the STEELERS would be easier to list than all of US who did. Either way it's a good thing he is here and has won a starters position. NOT taking anything away from James but his time will be coming later in. The season. I hope TJ Watt is a beast and if he keeps DEBO off the field then we know he is playing lights out. A good problem to have.!!!!!!

Harrison is a role player at best due to age. Watt showed me more in a half a game than Jarvis Jones did in his entire career as a Steeler.

Rookie Walls are mostly when the rookie isn't ready. Watt is ready.

Role player.....lol. Yes he has been, until he....just keeps replacing younger starters.

The definition of Rookie walls in the NFL isn't about being ready, it's about having stamina to produce though a 16 game schedule. Something rookies rarely, if ever, experience. 12 games max in college and they have plenty of layoffs during those 12 games.
