Dylan Cook

I couldn't disagree, there's a big need for LT stability and with all the FA $$ spent on defense last year, I'm sure they'll give some love to the offense this year. I'm hoping the draft is defense heavy, it needs to get younger.
Stability sure, starter right now not so much.

If they somehow lock up every bigger need in free agency then you can go BPA sure. I think them getting two WRs and two CBs and a FS and a QB and a RB and a G is probably too wishful thinking on my part which knocks that T want probably no higher than the third 3rd rounder.

I think those first three picks will be WR, CB, and QB. Possibly a NT too… my money is on those positions to come off the board first.

I think we are saying the same thing, maybe LOL. I'd use FA to find a starter at LT. Double so because I would bet ARod is coming back.

I'm going to have to look who is on the market at LT, there may not even be a starter worthy candidate??

Cook played very well until the Texans game, but even then he wasn't our worst our lineman out there. The whole line was smoked by the Texans line. Cook was a big improvement over what we had been seeing. Jones had been playing better, but i would still take Cook. Regardless we will need depth over there so drafting a LT is never a bad idea

I was thinking swing T, starter capable if Broderick went down. Now if the injury is longer term or more significant like in career threatening sure then a starting LT quickly goes to the forefront and as you say free agency would take that on.

No way do the Steelers put a rookie LT out there with Aaron in the fold. You do that when you are in a rebuilding mode not a team that Rooney claims is ready to compete now.

Exactly, I for one think ARod's back, love it or hate it. If they don't make a splash FA signing like Walker, I think an OT in rnds 3/4 would be well worth it. Austin Barber and JC Davis would be two guys to think about there imo. Either way I'm excited for FA to start next week and hopefully give some answers.

Semi pro vs nfl are not even the same ballpark to compare. AQ Shipley did a segment on McAfee talking about how it's not as simple as people claim it to be. And for Jones, not only is it not natural, but his body type is all wrong for it.

Tomlin set him back by trying to move him to RT, he started to settle in and improve before his injury. He has all the natural ability, his biggest issue was the OL coach. I think we are going to see massive improvement from our OL this year. But we still don't really know anything about Jones actual injury.

First reported as a stinger, then goes to IR (not normal), then the next we hear anything about him is a report refuting claims that he would return in the IR window because he actually had surgery on his neck.

But let's not keep this horrendous trend of playing people out of position with this new staff.
Never said it was simple. Only that guard was simple by comparison. Nothing is easy in the NFL. College and semi-pro were hard enough. Particularly at tackle. Guard allowed me to just maul people more often than not. I played center most of my offensive career. That is the most cerebral of the positions. Tackle is the most technical. For having fun playing I really preferred defense. lol.

As far as playing him at RT, that was by necessity not design. As Williamson has detailed injuries and limitations to what Moore could do forced the issue. It certainly wasn’t their plan out of the gate.

I am more worried about his neck than anything.

Free agents available should shape what needs get attacked before the draft, normally there are some rich positions and others pretty thin.

If seumalo is one of the top Gs available then definitely invest in other position in free agency and get a rookie before the 3th round to compete with the incumbent vet ( Spencer anderson)

Cook only got worse because our OL coach at the time began coaching him.
Can he be a LG if we draft a LT?

Mauigoa, Fano, Prcotro, Lomu and Freeling are the top LTs in the draft. All are immediate and long term prospects.

keep in mind that the current coaching staff has as very little loyalty to the roster and previous draft picks. Anyone could be replaced. With the current huge question marks at QB and LT, I'd consider LT the bigger need. If you can't protect the QB, then it doesnt matter who the QB is. As such, if we go LT - Proctor, Lomu or Freeling will be there at 21. All are at the same height, but Proctor is heaviest.

Proctor and Lomu were LTs in college. Freeling was RT. That would remove Freeling from the equation for me.

Proctor and Lomu are 1 and 2. In that order.

Freeling played all of '25 at LT. I just watched the highlights of them vs Texas the other day, which is why that caught my eye.

Weird. Nfl combine report had him at RT, but I didn’t recall him at RT.

Fans thinking that you can just move a tackle in to play guard like it's no big deal is laughable. It was hard enough for Jones to switch to the right playing tackle, now you want to move him inside and force him to learn a completely foreign technique.

As for Jones, he was improving, and that was under the last OL coach. We have a much better OL coach now. So the question shifts to what his injury was and how soon/if he can return.

Dylan Cook, he might be a great guy, a hard worker, but he's barely back up material. He played on until they had tape on him, then he couldn't block anything.

Tackle needs attention, but we need to know about Jones first, to know if we need a stop gap, a back up, or a starter.

Yup

Moving BJ again is not the answer

And spot on with Cook…
Cook’s weaknesses were on full display after a tiny hit of tape out on him. Love a try hard guy but effort only takes ya so far against guys with elite pass rush traits.

I found this today...was not aware. Jones had fusion surgery and the medical situation is being closely monitored by the FO. More fuel to the fire regarding drafting the BA LT prospect early.

This site will not allow me to post the link. Google B. Jones neck fusion to see for yourself.
