Bud Dupree isn’t quite ready to return to the practice field.
Saying that, the Steelers’ starting outside linebacker and reigning rookie of the year isn’t that far off either.
Dupree on Friday went through a workout with a team trainer inside the Steelers’ indoor practice facility and he came away with the feeling that it won’t be long until he’s back on the field after his core muscle surgery a little less than two months ago.
“I have one more progression, and that shouldn’t take long,” Dupree said told DKPittsburghSports.com on Friday. “I feel like a couple more weeks, and I should be good. I am definitely anxious to see where I will be.”
Dupree underwent surgery to repair core muscle injuries on both sides of his lower abdomen/groin area. Less than three weeks ago, Dupree was hesitant to put a time frame on his return other than to say he hopes to be back by midseason.
Now, Dupree can see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to finally getting back on the field. On Friday, he was doing lateral movement drills, which is something he wasn’t able to do a couple weeks ago.
“I am feeling way better now,” Dupree said. “It just takes time for it to heal. I am trying to get back as soon as I can whenever my body feels 100 percent.”
