Bud Dupree isn’t quite ready to return to the practice field.

Saying that, the Steelers’ starting outside linebacker and reigning rookie of the year isn’t that far off either.

Dupree on Friday went through a workout with a team trainer inside the Steelers’ indoor practice facility and he came away with the feeling that it won’t be long until he’s back on the field after his core muscle surgery a little less than two months ago.

“I have one more progression, and that shouldn’t take long,” Dupree said told DKPittsburghSports.com on Friday. “I feel like a couple more weeks, and I should be good. I am definitely anxious to see where I will be.”

Dupree underwent surgery to repair core muscle injuries on both sides of his lower abdomen/groin area. Less than three weeks ago, Dupree was hesitant to put a time frame on his return other than to say he hopes to be back by midseason.

Now, Dupree can see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to finally getting back on the field. On Friday, he was doing lateral movement drills, which is something he wasn’t able to do a couple weeks ago.

“I am feeling way better now,” Dupree said. “It just takes time for it to heal. I am trying to get back as soon as I can whenever my body feels 100 percent.”

Eh... Good news. But don't rush him back

Will he be an instant power house, NO, but he will be getting better and better as his games multiply. Full "game" stregnth late season and on to the super bowl run..............

Salute the nation

We should have drafted a QB

Nice article but it seems all we read about are Steeler starters (who aren't starting) on IR. Who is responsible for strength and conditioning?

Definitely don't rush him back for this season...we are damn near the practice squad version 2.0 right now. Not worth re-injury .

You can't reinjure core tissue. It's been 6weeks. the fibers are 100% healed. He now has to get his strength and conditioning back up to par.

I don't know but I nominate Deebo for next year since he'll probably retire.
Granted 135 is just my warmup on bench press but dude is doing overhead presses with one hand on an olympic bar.

I've worked as a trainer for over 12 years and Deebo is a rare breed. He follows a path many should follow when it comes to conditioning. His gifts are god given and he's made the most of them. I'd like to see him get a super bowl ring (3rd) and the sack record before he's done.

I would not expect much early. Bud was pretty much a nonfactor in the final games of the 2015 season, and the injury ruined his chances to improve in camp.

Deebo has rarely missed games due to injury and when he does it's for stuff like a broken bone in his face.

I'm beginning to think Carnell Lake will return from injury before DuPree.

I wrote a song about it, here we go....

I'd be for that ...as the secondary coach needs a upgrade anyways........

That's ******* great. Dupree and Shazier may make it back in time to see the Steelers sneak in as a wildcard 6th rounder and travel to cheat-town.

******' awesome. Maybe we can get another 6 of the ******* injured guys back just in time to pack up their ******* lockers too.

(I'm irritated. Taking my 24 hours.)

I'm to where I think they might as well not waste picks drafting LB's high and just find them in the late rounds and UDFA's since that's who ends up playing anyway.

On the post game with Batch, I can't remember who is the co-host but he said Dupree looked good in practice this week

I gotta tip my hat to Jarvis today. He was on fire for sure. This was his best game yet. I'm hoping this is what we've been waiting to see.

It was his best game, but he only makes plays when he's not blocked. He can't get off a block to save his life and he loses outside contain so much, and still only has 5 career sacks

He was reminiscent of a Greg Hardy...and looked like he was using Deebos swim moves to get off his blocks today.

Jason Worilds was pretty good in his contract year too, then promptly went back to being ****.

What do you mean wildcard. We can win this trash division with 9 wins!
