Duck is the starter,

Well, it will be interesting to see if he can

A) complete more than 50% of his passes and/or

B) throw for more than 4 yards on a pass... (has somebody introduced him or Mason Rudolph to the tight ends?)

Only decision he could make. Duck at least moved the team down the field and got a TD out of it. Going back to Rudolph against the Clowns at this point would have just seemed totally pointless and wishy washy. If Duck sucks you can always go back but right now having a mobile QB in there makes sense.

All true.

Has anyone introduced Fitchner to the concept of adjusting his gameplan to who his QB is?

Duck is 2-0 in games he's finished, he deserves this chance, go kick some Brown's ***

Duck's first pass went 20+ in the air and Washington took it the rest of the way. Hopefully, we will see more of that. Rudolph would rarely throw to the middle of the field for whatever reason.

Like I said in the other thread, this is the right call...
If they went back to Rudolph right now he would be pressing offense to try to keep the job... particularly against the Browns... he would likely force throws and be off focus like he clearly was last game...

Now he takes a back seat, has time to try to work on mechanics and footwork, doesn’t get the national spotlight on him for this game, and is forced to try to rise to the task of retaking the job...

Hodges gets his shot to show what he has vs his stronger armed clone in mayfield....

If Duck falters, it’s probably better that Rudolph be coming in late than if he starts the game with his head on wrong and throws a bad pick trying to get revenge...

I just don’t see how this wasn’t the logical call

Establish the run game to open up play action and since Duck who is mobile, I play to that strength and roll him out.
With a week’s preparations I think he gives this team a legitimate shot to win this game if he’s given a good game plan to execute.

Mason could see a helmet being swung from a mile away, but couldn't see a DB over the middle.

correct call by Mister Super Bowl Winning Head Coach Michael Vincent Lombardi Tomlin. Wouldn't you say, Ogre?

In his defense, that was mainly due to quite a few throwaways either from pressure or nobody being open. It's not like he's been wildly inaccurate. We're going to need some semblance of a running game & the Browns can be run on.

Going to have to be the other way around. Teams are stacking the box against us this year without Ben. 8/9 in the box forcing us to throw and we haven't been able to do that. We need to throw down field to loosen the defense up so we can get the run game some room and also go play action. There's no threat of play action when they are stacking the box and we can't run the damn ball. I would hope they plan on McDonald and Vannett both getting balls thrown their way this week with the WRs mixing in.

Well they had a good day Sunday running the ball to the tune of 145 yards, right? Cincy was loading the box. And neither one of these two QB’s scares a defense with their passing. That long TD was more Washington than Duck.

Maybe Tom! I think we’re screwed with either one of these guys. I hope the hell Ben makes it back 100% next season or we’re screwed for years.
I hope we can get the next two years of a healthy Ben and somehow find an eventual replacement. At least now we know it pretty much isn’t either of these two guys.

This may cause Tomlin to think hard about moving on if he has no Ben.

That was his second pass. The first was a five and out to Samuels that he took for another 6 or 7 and a first down.

Yeah, I hear that, I guess we just hope with Conner out, we get lucky and one of these backs looks like an actual NFL running back.

I am happy to hear about this. Should be a lot less angst around here. At least until Sunday, anyway.

I hope he plays well. The Steelers need him to play well in order to win this game. And if they have any designs on getting to the playoffs, they need to win this game.

No he's not. He came in the Baltimore game and we lost that one.

In Duck we trust. He's better than Rudolph. We can still make the playoffs.

And the offense scores more with him at QB. 13 points in less than 2 full quarters last week, and 24 points in a full game vs the vs the LA Chargers. That's enough points to win with our defense.

That's some hard-hitting analysis.

per Tomlin at his presser.

Outside of being chummy and wordsmith with the media, Tomlin knows how to keep his job. If he went with Rudy and lost twice to the Browns missing the playoffs because of it, the left over fence sitters on whether he should say or go would quickly be in the get rid of him camp.

I was pretty certain Duck would start next week for this reason.

Tomlin might say he gives us the best chance to win right now. Yes, but you were late on the QB with last week. And why did it take this long to figure that out?

Rudolph should be done. If Duck doesn't play well, play Lynch next not Rudloph. I've already seen Rudy play 8 times and it was awful on nearly every performance.

I already showed you stuff that Rudy was living on defensive scores and defensive turnovers in his favor.

No need to show you stats or 3rd party opinions, you can look that up for yourself. I already showed that Rudy doesn’t rate among the top 32 QB's. His rating on important parts of the game is in 40's and 50's in some areas.

One guy is too easy to sack, throws it high and low, and can't hit a moving target.

The other guy can at least escape the rush to throw it away, and has shown a better ability to hit receivers down field.
