Dri is Available

My prediction: This thread will NOT reach 170 pages, and will NOT result in a long-time Steeler Nation member abandoning posting on the site.

You people have to work harder to pass up the Trump thread that beat the previous Dri Archer thread.

In a way he really wasn't used properly. When he came out in preseason and that first year he played against the ones or twos. They flashed him on real quick passes out of the backfield in space and he did something with it. And the kid has great speed. But for whatever reason that type of play just did not materialize when the game mattered.

Yes, you nailed it. But this happens often in Pgh: Due to protecting their egos, they are slow to make moves which admit to judgement failure. The more they hear the media and fans disgruntled over a personnel decision, they longer they wait to finally making the right move of dumping a poor personnel signing. The "barbarians at the gate" were shouting that Kordell was not a legit QB. So what did they do? Sign him to a huge new deal when he had TWO years left on his current deal. They were really gonna show us.

There are endless examples of this same, ego-protecting mindset. Dri was just another example. the "barbarians at the gate" grumbled that Dri was a wasted 3rd-round pick? Try to keep him twice as long as any other team would. He was a bust, a wasted draft pick when we couldn't afford it. But they acted in a bullheaded manner and kept him on the roster even though he was useless.

I used to think such ego protection was a Cowher trait, but clearly it went deeper than that: they operate in the same manner long after Cowher was gone. Remember how long we suffered with Chad Scott and Dwayne Washington as our CBs? They signed them to new deals and they both sucked, but they didn't want to admit it.[/QUOTE

agreed. these ******** once let a 1st rd qb sit on the bench for 4-5 years before letting him start. they should have cut him. damn barbarians at the gate were not around back then but should have demanded that that guy named Bradshaw should have been cut.

for the record I am not comparing Bradshaw to midget. just saying sometimes you don't know what you got for a few years

At this point if I was Archer I would take my game to the CFL for a season and show what I can do and then in 2017 try to get signed in the NFL.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Bradshaw started 8 games as a ROOKIE, 13 games his 2nd year and all 14 the next.

Agree, Get some tape out on your ability. Plus get a "little" better feel of the speed.

Is it too late for Archer to catch on the NE? Do they still need a ball handler or is the deflating needle kept on a high shelf?

Leave him wherever he is.

I was listening to sports radio this morning and they said going into the the break "the jets cut a smurf" and I immediately thought of Dri. It turns out they were talking about beckhams cousin who has blue hair. I guess they have cut two smurfs then...

POP will be here soon to tell us how Beckham would have still been on our roster while the Pusstriots wouldnt have even let him near their facility.

Just making sure I read that right. The PusstriotsPusstriots have hired worse players than Beachum. POPs has more steelers knowledge in his bowels than most of us here have in our whole body. JUS ASK HIM !!!

I'd bet my business that I can be more effective running kickoffs back at age 44, than Archer is now. I am dead serious too. No thanks..

Considering you wouldn't run out touchbacks to the 15 yard line, I think anyone that can catch a kickoff would be better than Archer.

If you just downed it in the end zone every time you would have a higher net return average.

Buffalo Bills claim running back Dri Archer off waivers

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have claimed running back Dri Archer a day after he was released by the New York Jets.

Listed at 5-foot-8 and 173 pounds, Archer spent his first two NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being waived in November. The Jets then signed him to a reserve/future contract in February.

Archer was a multiple threat at Kent State, where he was used as a running back, receiver and kickoff returner. In four years at college, he combined to score 24 touchdowns rushing, 12 receiving, four on kickoff returns and even had one passing.

Archer had difficulty earning a regular role with the Steelers, managing 40 yards rushing, 23 yards receiving and returned 23 kickoffs for 515 yards in 20 games.

Maybe they will finally be the team that uses him properly.
