Draft Thread Rounds 2 and 3

Alright Omar, I am sorry I bad mouthed you. I love this pick. Let Pittsburgh overflow with red headed mullets
The team has been in dire need of a good mullet for far too long. I can guarantee that he'll be making shampoo commercials with Troy by the end of next week.

Ok, I like Gennings Dunker a lot. I think I had him as a second round grade. But he should be a RT so either they think Max will be a LT or they are just doubling up at RT...

The Steelers likely drafted Dunker as a guard, where he played as a freshman at Iowa. He is big, with long arms for a guard. Very strong, reportedly benched 470 lbs. at Iowa with nearly 700 lb. squat.

Allar is much like our first round pick. A huge upside but a cellar for a floor. With enough coaching he could be the best QB not only in this draft but the last five. Or he could be Christian Hackenberg. But at 76 you aren't going to get everything so you are either banking on potential or getting a guy who will at minimum contribute. We swung for the fences and I am ok with that.
If Tomlin was still coaching, it's a terrible pick because he'd never get the coaching he needs. With McCarthy, he has a chance.

Exactly, it’s options with Fautanu and Dunker

I'm liking the draft so far. I had been hoping the Steelers would draft Allar all offseason. The guy is a Big Ben 2.0 clone in many ways if he gets coached up.

Allar had a really good 2024 season, then, like the rest of the team, struggled last season. The Steeles had a number of QB options and went with Allar. If I've got to accept that McCarthy is the coach, then I'll at least give him credit for being a QB whisperer, saw something he really likes, and hope he can coach up either Allar or Howard to be a franchise QB.

Allar has the intangibles you can't teach. The guy is huge, has an elite arm, and has decent mobility. I'll trust the coaching staff liked the tools he has and feel confident they can coach him up.

I'm guessing this means Rudolph is gone, assuming Rodgers is coming back, and if Howard and Allar look good during camp, since his contract is not guaranteed. Worst case, they keep Rudolph and protect whoever comes in second this summer between Allar and Howard on the practice squad this year.
You arent cutting a top half third round pick year 1 to go on the PS. If Howard cant leapfrog Rudolph early, he will absolutely get cut, cause he wont get the snaps to prove anything...

Also Allar is nothing like Big Ben in college... he has no instincts, no poise, inconsistant mechanics...

The pick is being mocked by the other AFC north teams fans already... a sampling :
"When it comes to Allar, he's a year away from being a year away. For a third-round pick joining a roster very much built to win now, it's not an optimal scenario.

Weird-miss inaccurate passes, curious decision-making, shaky pocket presence, and somewhat stagnant collegiate development are all marks against Allar as he prepares to enter the professional ranks."

I'm happy with it, so I'll sleep better than many on here.

Rodgers is coming back. I'll happily take a flyer on a high risk high reward player at that point in the draft. If the coaching staff can unleash his potential, a lot of pissed State fans will have to come around.

If it doesn't work out, it was only one of three third round picks. Much better than drafting lesser talent and measurable with the 20th pick in the first round.

If Allar goes into the draft after the 2024 season, he's a much higher draft pick. I'm counting on him bouncing back with better coaching and players around him.

Yes but there is hope he can develop a worthy mullet. ;). Who knows what will happen with any of our picks. Sure bets turn into flops and unknowns become all pros. Hopefully with some good coaching a few of these kids will become legends.

Didn't he have one start at guard? I mean yes, they can definitely move him inside but I was a pretty dominant RT at Iowa. I would at least let him fight it out and whoever loses push them inside.

Drew Allar is one of my favorite players. As a Notre Dame fan when he threw that late interception to help us get the Natty game, I was overjoyed.

Penn State has that game in the bag until God made their DB fall down.

Kind of strange what is my description of the Steelers draft so far. I like the pick and figured he would move to LG but we also drafted Iheanachor who appears to be our right tackle in the future.

So what do they do with Fautanu, play it out with Dunker to see who is the better bet at LT and LG. I guess they know who’s who. I’m not upset at what they did, I like it. They shouldn’t draft another OL in four years

It's nice to know that this coaching staff didn't draft Dunker to start at C.

We have 3 or 4 (Broderick Jones health depending) really young OTs, a sturdy C and RG, and a flexible Dylan Cook. A competent OL coach should be able to find a 5 man unit with reasonable expectations to gel as the season progresses; maybe Jones needs light work for the first few games to save his career.

I'd like to see S/ILB/NT and WR/TE Satuday, or a clear KR/PR specialist that can sub in at WR/RB/DB.

If Max IsHeAnAnchor and one of Allar or Howard pans out, this seems like a decent draft filled with several starter-capable guys in areas of need.
