Every year we talk about guys we like in the 1st round or well known guys. I want to start a thread so people can post about guys they like in the later rounds or people can post about guys they would like more info on. For example a couple guys I have been reading about the last day or so are FS Gerod Holliman and CB Damian Swann.
What I have read about Holliman is he is a ball hawk coming off a 14 int season, however he don't like contact..Deion Sanders comparison. Yeah we have Mitchell but I know there is talk here about if he could play SS which I am not sure if he could but I know we need guys who can make turnovers in our backfield. I know we need CB and OLB but I feel CB is a deep class this year and I have a feeling OLB will be addressed in the 1st round. So picking a guy like this in the 2nd maybe 3rd but I don't think he last to us might be a risk but might not also, does anyone know anymore on this guys?

Swann I know very little about but was looking for a later round CB and this kid did play in a zone system. He don't have great size but from what I read had some nice games. What does anyone have on this guy I am thinking a nice round 5 or 6 grab????

Feel free to post your guys you are liking in the later rounds or under the radar guys, especially OLB's....

I've been a CB Kevin Johnson of Wake Forest fan long before the combine and pro days, basically before the media guys started pushing him up draft boards (not bragging, just pointing out my consistency) and even said in an earlier thread I believe that he would rise like Kyle Fuller did last year, while he may not have jumped that high, he went from being an early 3rd rd-late to mid 2nd rd pick to a late 1st-early 2nd rd pick.

In regards to Gerod Holliman, I've watched his tape and while he made many turnovers, he is absolutely allergic to tackling. If the other team runs the ball you might as well have only 10 players on the Defense because he can not (Should Not) be counted on to make a tackle. The question you have to ask is can he consistently make those turnover plays enough that your willing to have a guy who you cannot trust to be that last line of defense to make a tackle (He shows Zero effort on tape, almost as if he is above tackling and expects others to do that job). I'd rather have someone else to be honest, as much as we need turnovers, I don't want a guy who refuses to tackle.

I don't know as much about Damian Swann yet. I'll have to investigate further.

There are a lot of questions regarding Holliman, especially his effort when it comes to tackling and whether or not he is a one-year wonder. However, if this guy can develop into a true coverage safety who is capable of creating turnovers, I will make the sacrifice if he falls until the third round. Not sure if I'd take him in the second yet.

Can a team sacrifice ZERO tackles per game vs. 2-3 INTs???

That's a tough pill to swallow. Not sure how'd I feel about making THAT decision...

Think Ike Taylor in reverse. LOL

I have read that he don't like to tackle but I am thinking we get a physical corner or two and Mitchell is not afraid to hit, having a ball hawking safety might not be such a bad thing in this passing NFL league. Like you say may be a steal in the 3rd but I don't think he last that far. The other thing to remember is the more I read the more I like both the CB and S positions in this draft......but I am just reading!

If anyone who doesn't know and wants to watch tape on these guys,

http://draftbreakdown.com/players/

This site posts cut ups of the players in the draft, not highlights but actual tape (Some All-22 tape). You can even cut up gifs from the videos (Its how Steelers Depot does their scouting reports), it's an awesome site for getting a good look at the players

So when you look at this tape how much of it is there for the players? is it every play they were on the field? or is it someone else's version of a highlight tape? Not trying to be critical just curious and from what I have seen from watching college tape that guys post on here I am better off listening to the guys that post on here than trying to do my own evals of players. I generally don't see the things that translate well into nfl players. Case in point I thought Paulson could turn into a good pass catcher and become a serviceable blocker, so far does not look like it. Some of the guys that post on here spend a great deal of time on this and frankly looking at the guys they like and how they turn out could do as good a job as some front offices.

It believe it shows every snap they are on the field, whether it be lowlights or highlights, you see what they do regardless if the play goes there way or not. If you want really good scouting reports as well (since I understand the whole not knowing what to look for thing) Steelers Depot posts excellent scouting reports using the videos from that site and they go in depth, they have already done some 60 players.

here is their latest one on La'el Collins OT LSU

After your done reading that one, near the bottom you'll see the links to names of all the scouting reports they've done so far, they are really helpful, specific and really in depth. I hope this helps you man.

we are picking kevin johnson .. bank on it

I think one misconception about Holliman is he's afraid to tackle. I disagree I say he just doesn't wrap up tackle. Also, this is the 70's anymore and in the new NFL I could give a flying crap about tackling. To be 100% honest tackling has no place in the new two hand touch NFL. Holliman plays safety like a center fielder and does an awesome job tracking the QB's eyes and breaking on the ball. He also has soft hands and does a nice job of catching the ball at it's highest point. I love the fact he is sliding in the draft and if we could get him in the 3rd or later I'd be happy as can be. Put Mitchell or Thomas at SS and let Holliman sit back and pick off balls.

Thanks for the link I have it bookmarked I do believe someone last year posted it and I have used it since. The problem is with so many prospects and guys you don't know I can't find the time to watch a lot of it. Like Holliman for example I don't watch a lot of college ball so I didn't even know who he was till I started reading a little.

Your welcome, and that's understandable, that's why I suggested checking out Steelers Depot's scouting reports, saves you the time from having to figure out who to watch and they tell you the things you ought to look for in a certain position and where a certain prospects strength and weaknesses are.

Here is there latest scouting report, at the bottom of the article are links to all the prospects they've done scouting reports on so far (60 some players), this ought to save you some time of deciding who to watch at the very least.

And I'm leaning this way too...

The other very interesting piece is that while he "may not" be a tackling machine - most FS's are "ballhawks" - the kid racked up FOURTEEN INTs in a year. Does Ike have 14 interceptions in his career??? Hopefully he's there in the third.

Yeah me too I think we need a ballhawk and we may have to trade up to get him in the 3rd I just don't see him being there when we pick but who knows.......

They are just guys at either positions of need or typical type players the Steelers look for or could look for late in the draft. They do top, mid round, and late prospects.

Ike has 14 INT's in his career. If this kid can get half his last years production in the NFL I am fine. Let Mitchell or Shamarko come up and make the tackles and let this kid jump routes and get turn overs. I am very interested in his 40 time because I think that makes or breaks his draft status. If he runs sub 4.5 he's a 2nd-4th pick. If he runs a 4.6+ he's a much later pick. But even so I would be happy taking him in the 5th if he runs slower than expected.
