Fittipaldo brings up good point. Are you going to let Herbig play his final season on rookie deal and walk for free? Both him and Highsmith are attractive players with Id think very good trade potential. Then with Jack Sawyer sitting there. Maybe one of those and our first to jump up to a premium first round player? Or an extra second. You'd need a contract in place with Herbig on that move or the details framed precisely.

As I've said before.. I trade Highsmith.. older, the vet teams looking for a 3/4 olb with pass rushing ability trade high picks for. Sawyer has the potential to be Highsmith... Herbig is the flashy pass rusher. Herbig is the Watt replacement as he winds down. sawyer is the runstopping guy with pass rush abilities..

The value trade is clearly Highsmith. Feel bad about it cause he is the lunchpail, blue-collar, chip on the shoulder kind of player we love in this team. The guy came from nowhere as a small school prospect, showed his value, got drafted as a 2nd day pick and then showed more than enough to get starter 2nd contract money.

Now due to Watt's contract and the younger picks evolution he is the ideal tradeable asset: still good age, soon to renegociate, starter production And a bit of injury history that worries me for a new contract

Sign Herbig to a decent deal, remembering he can’t set the edge just yet. This off-season may have helped in that regards to building strength / weight proportions.

Highsmith should garner a 2nd & a day three pick. I know that appears steep, but OLBs / rushers are in vogue and needed, highest paid player on the defense.

Herbig is key here, must get him signed and hope reasonable. 16-18 mil / per / 3yr deal / possible 4th yr with easy cap implications / incentives.

Draft OLB 3rd rnd-ish

Tj. Pending on what you can get. High 2nd? Yep.

If hear yaz BLITZ, but TJ’s contract make for a very hard to move him deal.

Add in that I think he has a “NO TRADE” clause in his contract that puts even a harder cap on the trade.

Sign Herbig to an extension. The team has a ton of cap room and no QB contract on the horizon. But yeah, I'm not trading either guy in a weak draft class.

They messed up signing Watt to such a monster deal last season. There were signs he was slowing down and that has turned into a two-year trend.

I don't think they will get much for Watt due to his salary and skills diminishing. Highsmith should get a 2nd, at least you would hope so. Trading Herbig also won't get much. Last year would have been the year to trade Watt. If someone offered them a 2nd this year for Highsmith, I'd take it. I might even settle for a 3rd and maybe a 5th for him.

We are going to see Watt what is with Graham in fold. I wouldn’t be shocked if he has a monster year.

Both Highsmith and Herbig, with a new deal, could be excellent for later day 1 or early day 2 picks for 2027 all the way up to the trade deadline.

This is the year you fish around and see which OLBer brings the highest return.

The outcome might surprise a few peeps.

A black and tan toast to yinz.
