Doug Pederson Fired

He was borderline going into the end of the season... it really didn’t surprise me at all... the philly rumors are he went into the exit meeting with no plan for the offseason and basically was riding the vote of confidence he had gotten earlier

Trading them Tomlin is a pipe dream but honestly it would totally fit. Philly is in that eastern big city media swath from boston to new york to philly to Baltimore to Washington that would eat his verbally unique cliches up, and he isnt as bad a coach as people make him out to be... he could get those teams to the playoffs... he organizes well and probably would have less leeway with his assistants there.. Guys like Fitchner or Zeirlien or Bubbles would have been eaten alive and forced out long before now... Tomlin grew more than Cowher did in his time here, but its been slow

Sometimes you need a pressure cooker to make the meal you want in a timely fashion.... almost every huge advance Tomlin has made... not killing vets in camp, actually playing young guys and udfas, resting stars and not running their legs off, adapting schemes, firing coaches, have all come after pressure from the media... i think a more critical and larger market would be good for him really...

There are a few possibilities.

1. His relationship with Wentz is beyond repair and they chose Wentz. This is the most likely. I saw quite a few eagle games and it almost seemed as if Pederson was purposely trying to screw Wentz with playcalling. With Wentz it was mostly drop back passes and barely using Miles Sanders. Wentz was getting killed each week. As soon as Hurts goes in, it's all play action and bootlegs and running the ball.

2. GM Howie Roseman is a weasel. This guy is a bean counter. He sabotaged Chip Kelly. Kelly wasn't supposed to be GM at first. He wanted say in personnel decisions of course but not necessarily the GM title. Roseman set it up in writing then to make sure it was all on Chip Kelly and nothing that happens has anything to do with Howie. Things blew up and they fired Kelly and Roseman then got full power. Now it's his *** on the line so he's firing Pederson before people realize his drafts suck. They drafted JJ Arthega Whiteside over DK Metcalf.

3. They have a dream candidate in mind. A big name to excite the fanbase. Eric Bienemny maybe? Eagle fans still love Andy Reid so being his #2 carries weight. Plus, the media has already declared that Bienemy is the best possible hire and any team that hires him is guaranteed good press.

4. Conspiracy theory - The league was so pissed with the blatant tank job that they were going to take a draft pick so they fired Pederson to head that off

I'm thinking he's worth a look as our next OC. IF, of course, the Steelers actually make a move in the offseason to try to improve the team which would be a first.

Word in the philly area is the owner had his end of year meeting with Pederson and asked about his plans and gave horrible answers. Basically had no plan, just keep doing what he’s doing and refuse to fire his QB coach who has done a horrible job with Wentz.

Word on the street is the players want to see Mr. Sweatpants himself Duce Staley promoted to HC.

Based on the talk radio here there were a couple things they said. DP wanted to appoint his OC where Tthe GM wanted a different guy. Also I think DP was done with Wentz where the team was not bc of the money invested, this gives them an out for camp for a simi open who plays best gets it, but all points to Wentz behind center again.

Howie is a weezle and a POS drafter too. I can’t believe the team still sticks with him. Wait. Lol.

Duce has been talked about as an under-the-radar head coach candidate for several years now.

Pass on that one. He poorly handled the qb situation then blatantly tanking last game.

Pederson is a better coach than Tomlin. He won a SB with Nick Foles at QB. He beat the Patsies in the SB. His team saw that Malcolm Butler was not in the game and absolutely attacked his replacement, Erick Rowe, and destroyed him.

You think a Tomlin-coached team would do that? I don't because the Packers lose Charles Woodson and Tomlin's team pretends like he is still in the game.

As for "tanking" - okay. Sure. Whatever. Would you feel the same if the Steelers managed to eke out a meaningless victory over Baltimore in the last game of 2003, moving them from the #11 draft spot to #15, behind the Bills? Yeah, they didn't "tank" but same outcome. I suspect the Steelers history might be a bit different.

Ok what if they brought him in and gave him the OC job?

He did something Mike Tomlin never did - beat the Patsies in the playoffs.

Right now, I would 1000% rather have Doug Pederson coaching the Steelers than the moron, imbecile, punt on 4th and 1 to start the 4th quarter trailing 35-23, go for 2 when it makes no sense, don't go for 2 when you should go for 2 Tomlin.

Strange times we are living in. We have to pretend that our football coach isn't an absolute moron despite what we see year in and year out, and well, won't mention what's getting inaugurated.

These are good points, but this year Pedersen seemed to lose the team along with being terrible especially at the beginning of the year. Hard to say what goes on behind the scenes and who is responsible for what, but they gave Wentz an insane contract then drafted Hurts. Just seems like Pedersen is damaged goods at this point. The eagles may have lost the last game anyways, but not letting hurts finish was a terrible look. He may be the franchise qb and you can't let him finish a meaningless game which you were only down 3. I just think we can get good coaching elsewhere.

I have a feeling we would be calling for the hook of our QB if he was 7/20 for 74 yards, no TDs and a pick through 3 quarters which were Hurt's numbers before getting yanked. It's not like the guy was lighting it up and they pulled him for no reason. I think people are glossing over this fact and the media painted this tank narrative starting with the Giants whining.

I don't fault him for pulling a struggling 2nd string QB to try to spark the offense. The biggest mistake was putting in Sudfeld over Wentz, not pulling Hurts.

Great, but does Tomlin let him actually run the offense? If not, might as well just grab one of us from here to be the OC.

I am beginning to think he might have intentionally forced his way out... which given the gm, might be the right move before his rep is totally in tatters... he is close enough to that sb win that he is getting picked up within a year somewhere
