Donte Whitner released by stains

Reggie Nelson - DB - Free Agent

Free agent S Reggie Nelson left Tuesday's Raiders visit without a deal.

A Tuesday morning report had Nelson likely to sign a contract during the visit, but nothing materialized. "Where is stands at this point would be a guess," wrote beat reporter Jerry McDonald. Nelson tied for the NFL lead in interceptions (8) last season and is by-far the best safety left on the market.

Now this is a guy I would love to see sign. He was a 1st round draft pick for the Jags and started slow, but has come on. Actually he had 5 ints his rookie year and then dropped off the next few. Also, I didn't realize he was already 32.

He played for his last big deal last year. I am weary of signing those kind of guys; they often drop off and just go through the motions after their last contract. He is also now a former Bengal. He had 8 picks last year. But, what will he be moving forward?

Nelson signed a 2 year deal with the faiders.

I'm not sure if anyone has any updates on whitner but he might be our best veteran choice at this point. Idk, guess we will see. If he wants big money I would have to pass.

Interpretation: He'd look good in black & gold, wasn't used properly by the Browns, would probably sign for vet minimum............

He Must be better depth than will Allen, if he costs close to Allen bring him

Last yr stats--Whitmer-81 tackles/1.5 sacks/4 passes defensed. Allen-80 tackles/4 sacks/2forced fumbles/1int/8 passes defensed. You consider that better?

why was he cut? the Browns have lots of cap space

They probably didn't want to pay him 6.2 million in actual salary and he wouldn't take a penny less. Plus they can allocate all his dead money to this season and start fresh next year.

IIRC he's two years younger?
