Donte Whitner released by stains

Big hitter. Tough. Smart. 31 years old when camp starts.

Some off field baggage. Don't know what his production and injury situation looks like though.

If he's cheap, I'd love to have him.

An ex stain???? Idk about that..... it's like the hit or pass game. I'll pass.

I don't believe we have any ex-Stains currently on our roster. Having Whitner would mean we would no longer be the Stainless Steelers.

He probably wouldn't cost all that much since he was just cut. I'd bring him in but it wouldn't dictate me not drafting a Safety in the first 3 rounds though. A little more depth at a depleted position can't hurt.

A safety? Hell ya! bring him in, kick the tires - our DB's are a complete mess.

The move saves Cleveland $3.95 million, but leaves $4.5 million in dead money. Whitner is coming off a solid year, posting 81 tackles in 14 games
Entering his age-31 season, Whitner won't struggle for interest as the top available safety behind Reggie Nelson.

why was he cut? the Browns have lots of cap space

We DEFINATELY need safety help. Can;t hurt to bring him in and go through the motions......... At minimum possibly a depth hiring.

I say maybe...my concern is he is too much like Mitchell. He had no Ints last year, but does have 11 for his career. I would be more inclined to get a safety with more range who is more of a ball hawk to compliment Mitchell. We are really thin at safety so maybe he can bring something to the table.

Looks like the Browns are in full rebuild mode. Hard to say what will happen. A lot of the vets probably grew stale playing there so bringing in new hungry blood might actually benefit them or they could be talentless and totally suck.

Beggers can't be choosers

What are we going to do with Shamarko?

Vet minimum to throw in the mix at SS, sure.

I have said all offseason we need a SS and a CB with experience. That would eliminate one of the two concerns heading into the draft.

cut/axe/send him to the clowns in a exchange program

we give them Shamarko

in return

they take Shamarko

I would think the front office at least calls his agent and sees what he's looking for in terms of money.

Only if dirt cheap. Overall - and I admit there are exceptions - I hate adding FAs who are over 30. It's mostly a waste of time.

Stains sure are a dumpster fire. By the time they are done cleaning house, they are gonna be a college team, and maybe not even a good one.

........and I would hate for the Steelers to have no backup experience at the position going into a year that many would argue is SB capable.

AGAIN, take a look or inquire of his price. Bet he signs cheap if we so want him. He definately could be camp material and veteran experience back up. The odds of us acquiring a "STARTING" safety from the draft is limited at best and against us.

He Must be better depth than will Allen, if he costs close to Allen bring him

What do we have at Safety now? Mitchell, Golden, and some second year guys? At the right price yes.
