Don't sleep on Hodges?

IMO, as a Vols fan, if we have to rely on Dobbs for more than one game, we're doomed.
Although he did show a lot of improvement from his rookie season.

There is a scenario where Rudolph beats Dobbs for #2, Dobbs is traded for a draft pick and Hodges is kept on the practice squad.

What trade value does Dobbs have? Maybe if a team has QB injuries, but if not? A 7th at best.

Indeed.
It shows him tucking and running a bit too quickly and a bit much.
Half that highlight reel is him running the ball.
Not the highlights I want to see from a QB......that 32 teams passed on......7 times each.......that wasn't signed post draft.......and made the squad as a camp tryout.
Stranger things have happened, but I wouldn't bet anything other than monopoly money he makes the team.

Odds not in his favor, but Kurt Warner was a real story.

That's one. And remember you're dealing with a team that couldn't snag a 1st or 2nd round draft pick for the best WR in the game in his prime. The pats*** could trade their water boy for a 3rd. I don't see them trading Dobbs when everyone knows he is going to be cut anyway.

Warner had a road stop (played in a different league)before he latched on, so a little different initial story....

Only way he gets any trade action is if there are a couple major QB injuries across the league in camp. I like the kid, has a great personality. He just doesn't have the consistent accuracy from what I have seen.

Dobbs to be cut? We've carried 3 QB's for quite some time now - I don't see why they'd cut a QB (mildly proven on the NFL level) and leave the team influx w/ just Rudolph as a backup.

Iron sharpens iron...

Like everyone on this board I want the very best 53 man squad no matter who that player happens to be. Now being realistic and this is just my opinion, I think Bucky as others have mentioned here, will be just a camp arm. The odds are too stacked against him but hay, there is always a chance but as I said, just my opinion that he does not make the 53 or PS. Rader, I think has a chance to possibly beat out Grimble or Gentry or at least make the PS. I'm really leaning on him making the PS if he has a good camp. Just my opinions!

Then why trade him? If they are ok trading him then obviously they ok going into the season without him right?

Dobbs isn't getting cut (at least IMO). Hodges will be placed on the PS unless he does something pretty incredible.

Exactly. I remember back at last years preseason, both backups shined. Unless one regresses you would think that would be a hard replace. At least at this point in time in their careers.

I'd be fine with this.

And Vader, teams that develop QBs do this. They make it look like a 2A/2B scenario and trade one away for picks. Philly is known for do this. Jets did it with Barkley. Our team is just starting a program to develop QBs. Before, our backups were always vets with some regular season success. Now we have commodities, and I hope we at least get something from those commodities.

The Jets did what with Barkley? Yes, Philly trades QBs all the time. So what? They are about the only ones that do that. Mostly because people see value in their QBs.. why? I have no idea. Mostly they suck after they get to their new teams. NE does the same thing.

Fact is that most teams don't trade 3rd string QBs. Mostly because if they are willing to let them go they generally just cut them. The Steelers aren't developing QBs. Did you see Dobbs play last year in Oakland? Horrible. How many teams want to trade for that? Also, if Dobbs is that bad how bad must Rudolph be? Plus the Steelers couldn't get any value at all for the best WR in the game. But somehow they are going to get a draft pick for a 3rd string QB in his 3rd season. Talking apples to apples. How many 3rd string QBs with a total of 0 starts 50% passer rating and 43 total yards passing get traded? The Steelers are no QB factory.

Steelers are starting. Philly and Pats have done it. Doesn't mean we're going to be the next QB factory, but even though Dobbs **** the bed in Oakland, he was a big reason why we won in Baltimore on 3rd and 20+.

He threw for more yards than any QB in div. 1 last year.

And not only was he not drafted, he wasn't even signed by any team as an UDFA.

He had to win a spot on Pitt in a rookie tryout.

He's not tall (6-2) and his arm isn't that strong, but there is more to being a QB than that. He must have some skills if he threw for more yards than anyone in div. 1.

Isn't Division 1 made up of both the FBS and FCS schools

Hodges did not pass for more yards in 2018 than Haskins, Minshew or Murray...unless the NCAA stats board is off
