Donnie Shell Gets Nod for Hall of Fame

He was alright.

finally!! a buddy and I were talking going to go to canton to watch Troy's induction. Now with Cowher and Shell also, we are definitely going!!

Yeah, my son and I were planning a trip to Canton this summer, before all of this. Now between this, Cowher and the Steelers likely playing in the HOF game, we are definitely going.

Dude has been worthy for decades, but it's obvious the powers that became sick of voting in members of that defense.

I can't help but think Tony Dungy lobbying hard for Donnie Shell to get in helped make an impact.

Didn't get to see Donnie in real-time but watched as much video as I possibly could, and 51 career interceptions as essentially a box (or Strong) Safety in that era seems pretty incredible to me. And his hit on Earl Campbell is the stuff of legend.

Congratulations Donnie! What a great day it must be for him.

That's awesome. I'm sure you both will have a blast.

Polamalu has to be in this year. Cowher, Shell, Polamalu. Bet on the steelers playing in the HOF game

Safety Donnie Shell (Pittsburgh Steelers, 1974-87)

Shell was physical enough to play the run like a linebacker with the athleticism and savvy to have 51 career interceptions. He covered tight ends like Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome in man-to-man situations and was also a feared hitter along the line of scrimmage. Shell played on four Super Bowl winners and was voted the team MVP of the 1980 Steelers, a team that included nine Hall of Famers (Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Mike Webster, Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham and Mel Blount).

Why he was elected: He was a five-time Pro Bowl and three-time first-team All-Pro selection. Couple Shell's 51 career interceptions with 19 career fumble recoveries and those 70 career takeaways are Canton-worthy. He had a six-year stretch -- 1979-1984 -- with at least five interceptions in a season, including seven in 1980 and 1984.

I think the 2020 Steelers are going to be a very intriguing team, for the simple reason that the current roster has a lot of guys who will merit HOF consideration in future years:

  • Ben Roethlisberger (obviously)
  • TJ Watt (at this rate)
  • David Decastro
  • Maurkice Pouncey (needs two more very strong seasons, better than 2019)
  • Minkah Fitzpatrick (dude "has it")

We went to the baseball hall of fame in the summer of 18, and we visited the hockey hall of fame on Christmas Eve this year. Summer at the Pro Football HOF will complete the trifecta. With sauce, thanks to more Steelers legends getting in.

if you are doing the NFL HOF then may as well check out the Rock and Roll HOF in Cleveland. It’s less than an hour from Canton.

Keep in mind that Shell and Cowher will not be inducted along with Troy, and or Alan. They will have a special celebration and induction in mid September, between the 16th and 19th.

Not when pop and rap people are in there and other influential rock acts are shutout, screw that farce of an institution

While some parts were a little difficult to see, that was really fun to watch. Thanks for sharing, Lunar(tic).
