Dolphins fire HC Philbin

The Joe Philbin era in Miami has come to an end

Didn't he just after the game say, that he wasn't worried about his job?
Or was that just the voices in my head messing with me again?

Could have sworn I read something to that end on nfl.com..... Now I'm second guessing myself.

I hope they lose every game this year. Since, 1966 no team, save for the 1978 Patriots, have a fired a coach mid-season and made the playoffs. In 1978 the Pats were already in the playoffs when Fairbanks was suspended because he was talking to a college to become their coach. So, technically, they did fire a coach and make the playoffs even though the fired coach actually coached the team into the playoffs before he was fired.

I don't understand the firing a coach mid-season mindset. What is hoped to be gained?

You're fine, that's what Philbin said yesterday when interviewed, but I wouldn't expect him to say otherwise.

I live down here. The owner had no choice. The only ones who are really upset are the die hards. You could feel their pain on the radio.

The rest the Dolphins fans are giving up. Tickets are going for 1/2 face value down here. When sports anger is turns to apathy, the owner must act swiftly.

For a laugh, listen to this song. Its BIG in Miami

The team quit on the coach.

Even when we were 0-4, the team never quit on Tomlin.
No matter how bad Sanchez and the Jets were, they never quit on Rex Ryan.

There is simply no coming back after you 'lose' your team.

So why wait 12 games? Cut the coach and basically let everyone know that they are auditioning for their jobs.

I sometimes watch the Sunday games with my college roommate and he's a die-hard Dolphins fan.

Yesterday I caught up with him during the later games, and he was just so 'broken' from putting up with the Dolphins ineptitude that I felt bad for him.
He was rooting for a complete blowout yesterday when it looked like the team just had quit on Philbin just so Philbin would be fired, and worried that chance was blown when they started scoring late in the game.

I'm sure he's relieved now.

I guess or the coach could have the current team competing for playing time by inserting a hungry rookie or two into the starting lineup and see if the effort of vets doesn't pick up a bit. Release a vet or two and pilfer some players from other team's practice squads,I think many of the players would get with the program a little more. Water under the bridge now, we'll see what happens.

You could tell from day one Philbin was in over his head. I kinda feel bad for him. Seems like a decent dude, but not head coach material.

Coach Philbin is no Coach Tomlin - I hope he finds his calling somewhere doing something...

He was a pretty good OC in Green Bay, some team will give him a all about an OC job.

Would Philbin given the ball to Vick or Bell with 3yds to go?

Just sayin.

He should pretty much thank Aaron Rodgers for advancing his career and reputation around the league.

I'm honestly surprised he survived the locker room bullying scandal of a couple years ago, as it exposed him as a poor leader who allowed a high school locker room-like atmosphere to run rampant.

Combine that with the lack of progress from the offense, and this was probably about a year overdue.

I hear the Seattle boards are still talking about the same thing, maybe go there instead of turning this thread into ANOTHER anti Tomlin/Haley...

"On Saturday during practice, Tannehill, after a couple of practice squad players forced turnovers, Tannehill made negative comments toward them, including saying: “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy.”
Sources say this has been going on for the past few weeks as the practice squad players have been intercepting Tannehill and frustrating the former Texas A&M wide receiver turned quarterback. ...
Philbin told the practice squad players to take it easy on Tannehill to not affect the young quarterback’s confidence."

Take it easy? No wonder Philbin was canned and Tannehill has regressed with that attitude. Sounds like the big payday went to Tannehill's head.

Tomlin is very lucky to have Ben as his Quarterback and Rooney as his owner. Put Tomlin on the Dolphins and I think he'd sink too.

Say what you want- but no one has ever accused Tomlin for being a weak leader. Not saying he would have won games in Miami (because I think theyre a bad team), but I doubt that they would be quitting on him in game 4.

The better question is-

If we can somehow get our offense going with Vick- is Haley a top candidate for the Miami gig?

They already have a solid defense- they just need another offensive minded guy to move that pathetic O along.

He should have benched Tannehill. Probably would have saved him for a week or two???

Tell me, Coach, how did the Steelers respond after a terrible start last season??? Has this team ever had a losing season under this "tuuurriibble" Coach Tomlin fella??? One MUST REALIZE that not every season is going to be a great or even good season - there are too many variables involved to predict that (ie. T*m Br*dy gets her knee shredded and "poof" there went their SB chances).

I say this here, a lot, "just because the glass is half empty doesn't mean that it isn't half full..."

Anybody would, save for Belechick and he might sink as well, similar to Cleveland prior to stumbling on to Tom Brady at New England.
