It's just preseason and neither has had much NFL game experience, but their combined 95 yds rushing, 3 catches, 13 yards, 2 TD's against Green Bay
and 59 yards rushing, 10 catches 88 yards against Titans are basically stats we see from Bell. As they gain experience and since neither has to carry the full
workload, those two likely equal if not surpass Bell's production.

No buttttttttttttt

next year a free agent plus a draft pick plus Conner plus JaySam ='s Bell as a collective whole.

And that will do just fine.

LOL.........That's a funny.

No but Bell is not needed. The O will adjust using those 2 (or a pickup next year) and spread the ball around more. A decent TE would help as well. McDonald isn't the guy. He should be gone after this year. They will either need to pick up a pass catching TE in FA or early in the upcoming draft. All of that will easily compensate for Bell and make the O more well rounded instead of relying on two playmakers, Bell and AB.

Good point 21. This is the definition of running back by platoon. You have 2/3 RBs that fit roles that would get the productivity of an every down back.

I think it just means the Steelers are not going to have to use a high draft pick to replace Bell. The replacements are already here.

Yes and no. Yes in that one can run strong like Bell and one can catch out of the backfield. No in that neither one can pass protect like Bell.

If you're talking production and the respect he generates from opposing defenses, then no.

If your talking character and selfless effort, then you have something.

The Steelers will be fine with a few adjustments, a threat at TE as TDX indicated.

Does Connor plus Samuels = Bell?

Production or monetarily ?

Production may not be there at present but the potential certainly is. Remember, Bell doesn't really outrun anybody with speed where Samuels has that capability.

Monetarily there is no comparison. maybe if we throw in Nix, and a couple TE's., we can get a little closer.

He asked if Connor and Samuels together = Bell.

Put both in the backfield and together they pass protect as good as Bell! :)

Apparently we've got a couple studs at running back.

That said, any chance Tomlin doesn't start Bell... being that he's not going to be part of the teams future?

What would be the ramifications if that happened?

Only 1/14th of Bell's cap number.

Samules showed me something as a runner. Conner can catch well but he's a bit too north and south running the ball.

If you average the last two preseason game stats over a 16 game season you get 1232 yards rushing, 16 tds, 104 receptions 808 yards.
And they haven't been playing full games with starting OL. I think fresher backs give you more opportunities for breakaway plays.
Maybe these two can give Bell more breaks so his productivity per play increases.

Niether or both are nowhere as goid as bell but we can win with them. I still say when bell signs his contract trade him for the highest draft pick offered or a draft oick and a starting caliber ilb

OK, re-read my post couple times. I give up.

Rap song?

Bell would retaliate with a rap if he was benched. One for the ages.

Conner is actually just as good of a runner as Bell, his YPC is very comparable. The question is can he develop into the complete back that Bell is, time will tell. Samuels has the potential to be a nice complement if he keeps up his solid play, he just has to prove he's not a one hit pre-season wonder.

You better copyright that before Bell gets a hold of it.

Save the Steelers some money, get a good TE that is not hurt all the time and maybe a good defensive player. Give Conner's as well as Samules playing time and the offense will adjust.

Bell’s greatest value is that he is a total package, a true 3 down player. That means you can run or pass with him in the game. As soon as you start using 2 players to replace him, you lose that advantage.

Now when your runner is in, the defense plays run and when your receiving back is in, they play pass. You tip your hand. That’s why Conner barely played last year. He was bad at pass protection so when he was in the game, it meant run.

True but Conner has proven to be very effective a running and receiving and getting better at blocking. Samuels can definitey run and catch and will get better in the passing game. So, when either are in the game, they could call a run or pass play. Samuels is probably more likely to line up around TE or even as a WR more than Conner but I believe Conner lined up outside at least once in our last game.
