DK Metcalf

Everyone knows how well DK plays, but this hussle is amazing.

Amazing player.

That was pretty amazing, considering Baker also had probably 10-15 yards on him. DK Metcalf is a physical freak of nature.

He absolutely is amazing. Before the DRAFT, I totally miss read him. I said he was to muscle bound that it would affect his overall speed. Boy was I ever wrong !!!!!

Hind sight is always 20 / 20 or danged near that. Good job for him and he will be pretty good for quite awhile.

I laughed at the hold in OT. It was a hold, but I gave that little DB about a 1 in 10 chance of bringing down Metcalf in the open field. His angle was pretty bad and even if he gets there good luck. There have been lots of Combine warriors that didn't pan out. DK Metcalf was a steal.

He's built like a brick shithouse. Only 22 y.o. He's what Josh Gordon should have been as a WR.

(always found that description funny)

I would have passed on the trade up for Bush and taken Sweat in round one ( Saving up 12+ million a year on the cap and letting Bud go and taking 3rd round comp pick in 2020 ) Sweat has 5 sacks this year, 9 tackles for losses and 2 forced fumbles. He can ball. Put him our out team, he's even better. I would have taken Metcalf in round two and kept our 3rd round pick picking ILB Germane Pratt.

Metcalf was in my mocks for round one.

To trade up for Bush us cost our 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Well Coach like I've said in many post(s), "hind sight is always 20 / 20 for the most part". I'm satisfied with our past as to what we did (picked) and who is currently on our roster. BUSH has been a very good addition and I think worth the value we spent. Bush was, until injury, a part of our AWESOME defense and was looking to promote even more as his experience cumulated.

As for Metcalf not being taken........ I trust the STEELERS knew more than I and made their best interest for the pick. Drafting is always a gambit and the STEELERS have a hell of a set of receivers currently on staff.

There goes Coach again with his 20/20 hindsight draft expertise.

I can't believe no one's hired you as a scout. It's mind-boggling.

I think Coach has been trying to be less self promoting as his past week worth of post(s) has shown decency. Sometimes one can slip but I hope he continues and He does bring up some good points but such as this post, he becomes to self promoting. Coach, keep your eye on the game and humility as that is definitely a building block. We all can look back 20 / 20 and self promot but instead we just look current and make the best of what we've got. Hindsight does nothing for current status and thus the lesser promoting the more sincere one becomes.

That being said/............. my hind-sight

I definitely was WAY off base on Metcalf, seems I felt he would become to muscle bound and affect his speed due to it. WowZA, I saw a clip recently that blew my theory totally out of the water.

Metcalf is all straight line speed. He lacks quickness and change of direction so he struggles to run many routes. Similar to Claypool. Metcalf landed in the perfect spot as did Claypool. Wilson is a great deep ball thrower and they have the quick Lockett to run all the other routes.

The fact he made the play was clearly desire. also longer strides and lack of carrying a ball. Budda Baker ran 4.45. But after 50 yards stride length becomes a big difference.

good post.

one anecdotal story just for everyone..kid I coached ran down a play much like this but was from the other sideline. He came across the field and ran the kid down over 80 yards but instead of just tackling him, he stripped the ball just across the ten. The kid then turned around and returned it over 90 yards for a score. Told the kid he was exempt from gassers for a week. I love seeing desire plays like this. DK was running on heavy desire fuel for sure along with those natural gifts.

Great story. Love good coaching stories. We play our final game tonight. We are literally the only outfit to my knowledge in Canada (Including college, pro and high school) playing full team (40 man roster limits) 12 on 12 (Canadian rules are 12 v 12). It has been tricky and we got shut down for 2 weeks, but we are getting it done tonight. We play the same team we played last week in two game total point. We are up 2 points going into tonight.

Good Luck my Steeler brother. Kick some *** shove 'em in the turf.

Where I am, HS football won't start till Feb. They just started cross country and volleyball and stunt/cheer I think. Within the first couple of weeks 3 schools in the county have had cases. With cases on the rapid rise, I am not convinced other sports will actually get played. I feel bad for the Seniors and the kids who have scholarship chances.

It was not great for the 12's, but it was damn good for competition. We held a week long evaluation camp in Sept. And then drafted about 220 players among 6 teams. We got dummied in the second half of our first game by a running back who has committed to our Provincial University team. But really all the rest of the games have been way more competitive then typical high school games. Kids are getting tape for post secondary recruitment. I love coaching high school football. Our staff is great, kids have been great. Very enjoyable experience.

Bush is good, but let's be honest about his career. He started out as a house on fire, then cooled down a bit. I would have greatly preferred Sweat, DK Metcalf, and Pratt, PLUS a 3rd round comp pick for losing Bud AND 12 million in cap space ( The difference in cap space between Dupree and Sweat ). Now that would be sometime special. The gap between Bush and Spillane has not been huge so far.

D.K. Metcalf of Claypool? Oh man, that's a tough one since Metcalf has that rare 5th gear. Metcalf is the primer deep threat in the NFL right now. I'll go with Claypool who's not only only a physical freak, but also has some Hines Ward in him. Old school football player with world class gifts is what we have.,,, I think. Of course I could be wrong, much to the joy of a select few here :)

Well that was my draft posted in my annual who I would have selected thread the day after using who was on the board, with no trades.. Not bad.

I'm not sure if I would trade my life for that of a scouts. Lonely men on the road, bleeding their eyes out watching film and spinning their wheels. A life of road travel and hotels. A tough a trade for me. GM however...
