Did Skylar out play mason

wait, who is the Vaj that started this thread anyway?

oh yeah. carry on

Mason has been going up against the number 1s. Skylar again number 2/3s

To be fair Mason was primarily going against 2s as hardly any starters even play anymore in preseason. A lot of the guys out there were backups. There were a couple 1s, mostly 2s and some 3s when he was out there from what I saw. It seems anymore that any players of value are protected from playing in these meaningless preseason games.

But Skylar was indeed facing weaker competition. Scattered 2s, mostly 3-4s…so, in essence, a bunch of guys that won’t be in the NFL. PS players if they’re lucky.

And the dropoff from 2s to 3-5s is pretty steep.

Skylar performed better than mason, but it's not comparing apples to apples. I doubt they will cut Mason, but they should have given Skylar a start. Just disappointed we didn't get to see Howard at all. We will still go into next year clueless at QB

So Thompson had a good preseason, but lets pump the brakes on his value... yeah maybe he finally developed, but you have to either have a ton of potential or proven ability to garner value in the league unless teams are desperate....

This is his 4th season, and plenty of qbs didnt develop till years 4-6... but he also was a 25 year old rookie in 22, and was only a seventh round pick

He has appeared in 11 nfl games, 10 regular season and 1 playoff game.

In his 10 regular season games, his career passer rating is 66.1. His completion percentage is just over 58%
He has only thrown 1 regular season td and 3 interceptions in his career...

Now four of those games were late mop up, kneel down, or 1 snap appearances when the starter had to go out
Another three were when the starter was benched for injury or performance so he played a partial game, but three of those games were starts

And he did start a playoff game vs the bills... he threw 1 td and two picks in that game... but in 45 attempts he only completed 18 passes (40%)... his passer rate was 44.7

The experience is nice, but a good preseason vs 3's and 4's isnt going to overwrite all those stats...

He will likely have low round pick value, but we may need to wait till fewer other options are off the table to get that value

Maybe our offense just isnt what we imagine it should be.
They've struggled with drafting offensive talent thats for sure. Maybe Freiermuth was the last decent pick that eventually became a franchise player, but imo he's not even top 10 at his position. I dont think they have a top 10 ranked guy at any position on the offensive side of the ball.

Frazier. Fautanu will be very soon as well.

I've said this since the Landry Jones days...Tomlin doesn't do a good job of evaluating QBs. Never has. It was hard to watch Landry Jones struggle through three quarters and then the third or fourth stringer would get a series or two if they were lucky. very frustrating. It's almost as if he has a favorite and doesn't care what the others do. And I'm beginning to see a trend with this at other positions as well.
Ah Landry Jones. Every time I think of him I remember the game I was at in 2015. Ben injured, Jones does nothing but then throws a ten yard slant to Martavis who takes it 88 yards to the house. In the end the numbers were good except for passing yards, but the play was awful.

I think this is another downfall of the 3 game pre-season and 17 game season. If there really was a thought of bumping Thompson ahead of Mason then you can give him more playing time with and against the ones. Unfortunately, that's not so much an option and the depth chart is more based on initial placement and training camp performance.

The freaking Giants have 4 QBs better than Skylar, and that’s the Giants.

Like you said he looked good against practice squad players, rookies and guys that likely won’t even be in the NFL in about 25 hours from now.

I’ll take my chances with Mason and be glad we have Skylar (or Howard) as a 3rd option if the glass must be broken in an emergency situation.

Our 3rd string last year was probably better than Skylar by a decent margin and there isn’t anyone pining for Kyle Allen right now.
