It is a betting thing to prevent ties. I do it too out of habit although on a pick'em set it doesn't make the most sense.

I use that to eliminate ties, unless some one else picks by 1/2 points could still be a tie. Yes, you may have missed the "after 4th of july but before the 32nd of july RULES committee meeting stating just that, "pick-um contestants can us 1/2 point more or less increments"
