Derrick Henry

way out of our price range we are better off drafting harris or JK robbins and if able to spend in FA get Ebron or Hooper but we barley have any cap room. we know ben is not going to quit is comeback so his salary abnd AB dad cap $ carries, best thing probably cut Vance sign a guy like Ebron or trade for Jake Butt and re sign Vanett.

Henry was drafted in the 2nd rd, just like we should be drafting a RB in the 2nd rd

and he had question marks coming out of college

Derrick Henry NFL Draft 2016: Scouting Report, Grade

The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner, Derrick Henry was a true workhorse for Alabama during the stretch run to another national title. With his hulking size and surprising pull-away speed, Henry ranks as one of the most polarizing players in this year's class.

The Alabama workload was not easy, and already NFL teams are talking quietly about head coach Nick Saban running his players into the ground in pursuit of national titles. The belief is that this leaves players beat up upon entering the NFL and would explain Alabama pro players' early injury issues.

He is a two-gear player. He has his initial burst—which ranks as average—and he has his open-field speed. He doesn't vary or change up his speed, and he doesn't show a true second gear in space. As a tall, upright runner, Henry takes hits in the backfield and doesn't break tackles at the rate you would expect.

For him to succeed in the NFL, he will have to break modern ideas of what a running back is. He's not quick, and he doesn't have a creative runner's ability to find creases and cutback lanes. Henry is almost too big, turning one of his strengths into a weakness when you realize how his size limits his movement ability.

FINAL GRADE: (Rounds 2-3—Rotational Player)

If Thaddeus Moss is in the draft and on the board in R2 that's my guy

He's a TE, which we dont use, not a #1 RB, which we are desperate for, he might be there in the 4th rd, take him then

after seeing what Henry and that OL did to the Rats, that should be Tomlin and Colbert's focus in the draft.

Should be but when you don't have a 1st or a real 3rd (comp pick is end of the 3rd) it's tough to find all the players you need. Do they have a 5th this year?

How many pieces can you sell before you've sold the farm?

In no way am I saying we shouldn't have traded for fitz as we got a better 1st rounder than anything CMVLT could have drafted. Unfortunately with as many misscues as to who / position, our ageing steelers are showing cracks and need replacement.

We will have to see what the off season brings.

So Zeke and Barkely should get mega money but Henry shouldn't because they catch the ball? Then why not pay Bell mega money? He was better than all of them out of the backfield.

Again, I do agree that RBs are not worth breaking the bank over. It's just funny how you seem to be fine with paying Zeke (who was down from last year). But not Henry who is vital to his teams run in the playoffs.

Bell is 1 bad night from a year's drug suspension and he has an injury history. If he didn't have those problems then I would have been in favor of giving him a big contract. in fact, the steelers did offer him a big contract. More than what he got from the Jets. It wasn't Zeke or Gurley big but those contracts were too much.

Zeke is a true 3 down back. Henry is not. It's that simple. Zeke can run WR routes and has to be accounted for in coverage schemes. Henry has 57 career receptions. Zeke had 54 just this year. He had 77 the previous year. If you can't see how Zeke is a much more versatile guy than Henry then i can't help you. The Cowboys did not use Zeke enough as a receiver

I don't think Henry is the key for the Titans. It's that OL. I mentioned before that the Ravens got Ingram for cheap. That was smart because with their scheme and Jackson as a run threat, they don't need a great RB, just a good one. That's why Gus Edwards was able to actually have a higher YPC than Ingram. The 49ers have used multiple backs and all have had success. The Saints replaced Ingram with Latavius Murray. The Pats get production out of Sony Michel and rex Burkhead. I think the Titans OL is so good that they would get similar production from a guy like that.

I will say that the Titans are damn lucky Henry didn't get injured this year. Their offense revolves around the physical run game and behind Henry they only have the tiny Deon Lewis and a rookie Khari Blasingame. If Henry got injured, they may have had to change that whole offense.

Obviously the guy who wrote that just hates SEC players.

The thing about the Titans, Rats and Whiners is they all lead the league in using a LEAD blocker out of their formations. We ran out of "11" personnel 75% of the time, the 3 teams mentioned ran 35, 47 and 18% with 3 WRs. They all used personnel groupings which featured a lead blocker in the form of a TE or FB to create lanes to allow their RB to develop a head of steam. We ran with no lead blockers against 7,8 and 9 man "boxes". It's not that Tennessee has a great line, they have a great scheme which allows their bigger than average back to get up to speed where he can break tackles and make guys look silly. He doesn't have great patience or vision or a tremendous line guys, Tape is absolutely right OR y'all would have been slobbering on Henry last year. They chose a scheme to match/maximize his efficiency. Watch his tape...most all of his runs over 3 yards feature someone entering the hole and clearing out the second level LB leaving him to destroy CBs and Safeties he outweighed by 50 pounds while moving at a high rate of speed. He (Henry) IS a downhill guy in the mold of Steven Jackson who averaged similar numbers and was of similar speed and size.
Scheme wins games as the Cheats have proven year after year with average playmakers, IMO. Vrabel learned a few things playing under the Cheats mentor. Henry is a good back and his size will end his career within the next 5, IMO.

The draft will not be their cure-all, esp not this year. They will have to be active in the FA. They don't have to go after top tier guys, obviously, but have to be active in finding the diamonds in the rough. That 2nd round pick will be interesting. TE, OL, RB, WR??

and the RB we need is another Tide player harris or trade up to top of rnd 1 ahead of the fins bucs or falcons and take taylor.

how much is this guy gonna get next year? more that Gurley?

True but KC also shut down the **** running game after their 3rd drive. They got nothing on the ground after they were up 17-7.

The **** were one demensional for some time now. Good teams takeaway your stregnth and the Chiefs did that, the **** couldn't get the passing going. Cinderella went passed midnight.

The Titans have been building their team for a few years to be a big, physical, punishing team - AJ Brown being a great example. Henry functions well as part of that but transferring him to a team that isn't built like that would expose his limitations. The Titans plan is great for exposing teams that have gone for quick and small defenses to combat the passing game. The same in the 49ers embarrassment of the Packers that couldn't stop the run to save their lives. It's why Hargrave will get paid as people look for an answer on the DL that allows them to stop the run with only 4 guys.
Henry would be a great fit in Baltimore but they don't need him. It'll be fascinating to see where he ends up.

we cant afford to sign our own guys let alone a guy like Henry. But what a gift that would be to Ben. Just turn around and hand it off. Kinda like Elway in his last few years.

We can afford more than a lot of fans are realizing.

Some guy named Mostert (I honestly don’t recall his first name) looked like Gayle Sayers yesterday. How’s about the Steelers fix their oline and then reevaluate their RB situation?
That and a vet QB should be the off-season game plan besides extending Heyward and signing Dupree to a long term contract...

If i had my choice of any current RB to magically place on the steelers, here's guys i would rather have than Henry, in no particular order

James Conner - it's only his injuries that hold him back.
Saquon
Zeke Elliott
Miles Sanders - had 50 receptions and can return kicks
Aaron Jones
Dalvin Cook
Keryon Johnson
Devante Freeman
Christian McCaffrey
Alvin Kamara
Kenyan Drake
David Johnson - if he's healthy
Gurley - probably not due to his injuries though
Raheem Mostert
Lev Bell
Mark Ingram
Joe Mixon
Nick Chubb
Melvin Gordon
Austin Ekeler
Josh Jacobs

I believe Henry is a FA. If so, what does he get on the open market? Will a team still pay him $15 million even though he has no value in the passing game? My guess is he will be one of the top 5 paid RB's in the league and maybe even the top. I wouldn't pay him that much. I want a guy that can play all 3 downs.

you've got to give Andy and the Chiefs major props, they made the hard changes that where needed to be made to get the team to the Super Bowl. they **** canned an outdated defense that depended on expensive "rush" linebackers that are easliy blocked by offensive tackles and pulling guards and centers and replaced them with bigger yet slower and cheaper lineman that could knock down and disrupt blocking lanes. they lined up in 4 and 5 man lines against the titans and took away the running lanes. I shutter to think what the titans might have done to butlers so called defense. look at Green Bay on the other hand, they spent tons of money on "rush" ends for their "hybrid" defense and the 49ers stuffed the ball right up their colon. a no name back put up 220 yards! it it was like watching the steelers a couple years ago playing Miami and the dolphins no name back putting up 200 on us. blocking and tackling people thats what wins. putting your players into position to make plays puts them in position to win. if what ur doing isn't working you make changes and you go out and hit'em again, you don't make excuses and then hope for the best. how many years we going to sit threw this??
