Don't know much about the guy, is he a Swiss Army Knife or STs demon? Can't go wrong with those bloodlines though.

Awesome coup by Colbert, love this! Multi-faceted, hard-nosed player, can step in to lead the ST's in place of Dirty Red. Plus the Watt bros' connection in the Burgh, fantastic!

That's Big money on a FB, hope he is a ST Ace too. Is this the end of the road for Nix?

Love Rosie, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy, I presume this will end his tenure with us.

I would think so...

Funny he'll be making about 2x as much as TJ is on his rookie deal....but that won't be for long. ;)

Couple of articles showing Derek Watt's value as a multi-functional player:

Chargers fullback Derek Watt is embracing budding role at tight end
https://www.latimes.com/sports/char...erek-watt-embracing-budding-role-at-tight-end

Derek Watt deserves to make the Pro Bowl on special teams
https://theathletic.com/1410158/201...serves-to-make-the-pro-bowl-on-special-teams/

Hmm, led the league in special team tackles?

<samp class="EmbedCode-container"><code class="EmbedCode-code"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Literally leads the NFL in tackles on special teams but isn’t on the Pro Bowl ballot for special teams. <br><br>So make sure to place a vote for <a href="https://twitter.com/DerekWatt34?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@DerekWatt34</a> at fullback. Extremely deserving!<br><br>(You don’t need any help <a href="https://twitter.com/_TJWatt?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@_TJWatt</a> you’re on your way to DPOY) <a href="https://t.co/6AUESHG3AA">pic.twitter.com/6AUESHG3AA</a></p>— JJ Watt (@JJWatt) <a href="https://twitter.com/JJWatt/status/1194397531704373249?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 12, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> </code></samp>

I see he was a damn solid STer so that makes up for Dirty Reds departure.

Basically he's at least as good as Dirty Red on special teams (ie both players are top shelf in the NFL) and brings more versatility and skills to the FB position than Matakevich did at ILB.

Bills give Matakevich $9M for two years, Steelers sign Watt for $9M for three years.

Colbert for the win.

ps - amazing stat of the day, Watt & Matakevich both had 16 ST tackles in 2019, tied for first place to lead the NFL.

Can Rosie play along the DL?
His physique would be better suited for LB, no? Problem has been all the injuries...if he's constantly getting banged up on offense, he'll get banged up on D. But I love his spirit and energy, maybe they give him a shot to stick around through camp to see if he's good to go, possibly kicking the tires on D...not a bad idea.

Ok ... i am leary of those tweener fullbacks though... how does he block? Thats what matters to me...

A sixth round pick in the 2016 draft, Watt helped Gordon become one of the NFL's best running backs during their four seasons together with the Chargers. After rushing for just 641 yards as a rookie (the season before Watt joined the Chargers), Gordon averaged nearly 1,000 rushing yards per season from 2016-17. Gordon also saw his yards per carry average climb from 3.5 to 4.1 yards with Watt as his teammate.

Watt is also regarded as a formidable blocker in pass protection, as former Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was routinely one of the league's least sacked quarterbacks during Watt's time with the franchise. Watt will now be tasked with helping protect another member of the 2004 draft class in Ben Roethlisberger, who is looking to rebound in 2020 after missing 14 games last season with an elbow injury.

The addition of Watt is likely a response by the front office to Steelers president Art Rooney II's recent statements about his desire to see an improved Pittsburgh rushing attack. The Steelers have finished 31st and 29th in the NFL in rushing over the past two years.
