Defense concerning, or big time?

They did. Thus far Cleveland has the 60min scoring record against this defense.

Isn't that just hilarious as hell....................AT least it gives the Cleveland fans something to brag about as they have so little with their team that is positive...........................................

I think a lot of towel twirlers were saying to themselves, Brady would've gotten 3 TDs in those red zone opportunities tonight.

It's true - giving up 400+ yds to Bradfords Lions means this pass defense would get shredded by the Pats again, and not for 5 FG's.

Same old **** - if Ben doesn't get 40 pts we stand no chance against Brady

Pass pressure is crucial to stopping any productive passing attack - Lions, Pats, whoever. The Steelers pass rush was not what I had hoped for against the Lions' banged-up offensive line, but I am going to credit that to their having a bye week and 2 weeks to prepare pass protection.

But the pass pressure needs more than just scheme to pressure the QB. It also needs guys just beating an OT or G. Heyward can do that. Hargrave can do that. Tuitt can do that. Those guys need a lot of playing time. Add Watt, Harrison and/or Dupree to the rush, and I believe that the needed pass pressure will follow.

I know I can't be the only one that noticed the gameplan against the Lions was to blitz very little and hope that 4 man rush could beat the Lions back up OL. That didn't happen. And when they tried to blitz more in the second half, the Lions did a GREAT job at picking up the blitzes. Say what you want about the defense, I'm putting the amount of yards they allowed on the game plan and the fact that Lions were absolutely ready for what we did. And yet, when the D needed to, they stepped up and made the plays that needed to be made.

Cant under estimate the fact they had two weeks to prepare. Shazier and Stafford were having their own game within a game before every snap

should we be concerned that we pretty much did the exact same thing tonight that we did in Foxboro in January?

Absolutely we should be concerned ! That zone defense is going to be destroyed by Brady ! The difference between Stafford and Brady is that Brady won't take 3 quarters to figure it out and he won't stop throwing those 20-30yrd passes into the windows of the defense. Brady will figure it out after 1 quarter. And unlike Stafford, he won't stop throwing passes in that range. I have no idea why Stafford didn't continue doing it. Every single time he threw one in that range his guy was open by about 5-7yrds.

By the middle of the 3rd quarter it will be a joke and we'll all be wondering when Ben will be able to figure out how to complete a pass again.

We're the luckiest 6-2 team in history ; could very easily be 1-7.

...and you won't have to wait until January. Brady will destroy the defense on 12/24.

Zone defense got shredded. As stated above Stafford did make some small window throws. In the end we didn't make any adjustments. We were lucky our D played some exceptional RZ defense. I wonder if the Lions scored a few TD's instead of the FG's if we would have made some adjustments. Stafford I believe had 200 yards by half and then over 400 for the game. So this wasn't garbage time yards.

Nice first post, troll...

Josh Miller on the Fan just said if the Steelers play zone, they'll lose, no matter how good our offense plays, NE will still win.

Not a troll - just calling it the way it is.

I've been frustrated with this zone D for years now.

I think the troll comment came from your 1 and 7 comment.

Because nothing in Tomlin's tenure suggest that being a possibility/ probability.

Nobody likes the zone D especially pertaining to top tier QB's.

But the way I take it they have been working on man and other schemes.

Let us see how that cheat game unfolds........

Pats haven't scored 40 on anyone yet, so not sure why they would be likely to score 40 on us.

I don't disagree, but if we rush 3 and they keep a TE or RB in to block, that's a double team on each of our pass rushers.

Yep. That's why I ended by saying, "Add Watt, Harrison and/or Dupree to the rush, and I believe the needed pass pressure will follow."

That's cool, I'll give you a chance. Taint calls it like it is too, but we all know what he is.

Welcome aboard!

What is the latest on Tuitt ? All I've been reading over the past week or so is that he's "questionable". If he was listed as "questionable" a weeks ago, then am I wrong in assuming he'll be able to play two weeks later ? (including the bye)

Beaver Falls Hosiery: Hi Alex; have heard a lot of discussion about secondary playing man to man vs zone. To some, its as if the Steelers never play man to man. Is this this true? If not do you have an estimate of the ratio?

Alex: I don’t have the numbers but I am guessing the guys (PFF) who chart this stuff is probably pretty accurate. Not a lot of man. But it’s watered down. It’s not just about how often you play man but when you play man. And the Steelers have used it on critical downs. See it the most on 3rd and medium. And it’s been successful.

But they’re still built around zone defenses so they’re going to use it a lot on early downs. And in 3rd and long, they play a lot of Cover 2. But they’re using it when they need it the most. And it’s been effective.

That's a carryover from the prior game. Steelers do not need to list any player's status until next week, as they have a bye this week. No game, no obligation to list player status. Therefore, the team has no disclosure obligation for this Sunday.

That changes a week from today.

I track injuries and have a spreadsheet HERE to see where our players are.

Tuitt's current injury wasn't caused by game action. He hurt his back lifting weights the day after the KC game. I'm assuming it's a muscle strain, and those can be tricky injuries to come back from. It's usually 4-6 weeks to fully heal, and he's a big guy and needs the power of his back, to make the plays that he does.

The Indy game is just about 4 weeks, and then we're on a short week to play Tenn. The schedule lines up really well for him to get 6 weeks of rest and return for the Green Bay game. If he comes back earlier, I assume the strain was not as severe, and he will be medically cleared to play. I'm just not sure if I'd roll the dice and have him come back after the bye to play 2 games in 5 days.
