James Harrison: Le'Veon Bell should sign with the Steelers and fake an injury
The best-case scenario for unsigned Steelers franchise running back Le’Veon Bell would be to hit unrestricted free agency next year without taking any further wear and tear on his body. The problem is, if Bell shows up to play at any point this season, he’s going to risk an injury. And if he never shows up to work, he doesn’t get the accrued season he needs to become a free agent.
Former Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison has the perfect solution to Bell’s predicament: Sign the franchise tag before the deadline to get an accrued season, show up to work with the Steelers, but fake an injury to prevent himself from playing in any games.
“I think the play for Le’Veon, if I’m Le’Veon, is I’m coming back — what is it, November 13? — and I’m gonna go in there, I’m gonna get my credit for the season I need to get, and I’m gonna do the best I can to get out of that season healthy. And, for me, I’d give you everything in practice, you would see — the cameras would see — that I am fine, I am healthy. But come Saturday, ‘Something ain’t right, I can’t play on Sunday.’ Because if I go out here and I mess something up I’m losing a lot of money,” Harrison said on FS1.
Harrison makes an interesting case: Injured players still get paid and still accrue a season toward free agency. But there are problems with the plan. For starters, the Steelers would surely suspect that Bell was faking it and would argue that they’re entitled to suspend him without pay, rather than having to pay him. They’d also likely argue that a player can’t accrue a season while he’s suspended for faking injuries, and that would go before an arbitrator who might not find in Bell’s favor.
There’s also the question of whether any team would give Bell a big contract in free agency this year if he shows himself to be the kind of player who fakes injuries to get out of playing. Holding out is one thing. Signing a contract and then immediately refusing to honor it is something else.
So Harrison’s idea probably wouldn’t work the way he thinks it would. Even though Bell may find it intriguing.

Funny how Deebo was a dick to the media when he played, now he is on these shows like he is this nice smiling guy.

And when is your book, "How to be a scumbag" coming out Mr. Harrison? The chapters just write themselves out. Sad to see him constantly piss all over the legacy he could have had...his butt hurt must be really bad.

WTF Debo? You're out of football so now you're cool saying dumb ****?
I know a brother gotta eat but sheeaat.

The only injuries that matter are for the players actually playing

No practice for JuJu Smith-Schuster Wednesday

JuJu Smith-Schuster was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday due to an abdomen injury. Smith-Schuster played over 83 percent of the offensive snaps in Monday night’s win over the Buccaneers and there was no word of an issue after the game.

It’s possible that it’s just a precaution or a rest day, although the Steelers did list both Ben Roethlisberger and Ramon Foster as out of practice due to a coach’s decision. Smith-Schuster has 27 catches for 356 yards and a touchdown so far this season.

Right tackle Marcus Gilbert and right guard David DeCastro, who both sat out Monday night, were full participants on Wednesday.

Will be nice to have Gilbert and DeCastro back.

If his lack of definition observed on that jet ski is any indication, Bell is probably so far out of shape that he most likely won't have to fake an injury...he'll pull a hamstring trying to hit the hole with that fat body.

Speaking of fat bodies, is it me, or did Ramon Foster put on a few lbs.?

Good to hear that the starting right side of the line is back at practice.

**** I wish Debo would have cared this much about the Steelers last year. He seems to have woke up from his naps. Somebody, please anybody, tell me what exactly this franchise did to warrant this bullshit. They made him a fair offer even by his own standards and said they were far closer than last year. They didn't reach an agreement. It became totally out of the teams hands. But the mothrrfucker still would have got a massive one year salary. He doesn't show up for camp, he doesn't play the first three weeks. Fans Express strong feelings and a few players. But he is justified to fake an injury and pick up his dough. **** you Harrison. Boy I'd sure want my centerpiece free agent running back to come in with that. The two of them can choke on a big dick.

deebo might be beginning to suffer from early CTE

Harrison is the guy that doesn't believe in participation trophies and now he's advocating faking an injury to sit out. He also keeps talking about Bell losing out on money. Bell is gonna have a heck of a time making up all of the money he's left on the table sitting out part of the season and not already signing an extension. As for James, he's just trying to make a name for himself and his appearances on Fox's version of FirstTake is the perfect outlet for him.

Man a dick thing to say. He sounds like a jilted lover. Without the Steelers giving him multiple opportunities he would have never had a career. Pretty damn sad.Is he pissed they gave Ole his number already?

That's 2 former Steelers that can have a nice cup of **** YOU.

What an *******. He acted like a badass towards the media and treated them like ****, now he can't get on the mic enough

**** him, he´s full of ****. But thanks for bringing this scenario up to the media, cause if this is what´s gonna happen, we will all be aware of a potential fake. Not that the Steelers FO would miss that anyway, but hell, now we have a very stupid plan made public.

**** Deebo and **** Bell

all I got.

I'll just add......................

"with a RED HOT POKER"

DEBO for a long time was my favorite "active" player while on the team. He sure has lowered in the ranks and I'm about totally done with him. I can't deny his stellar play on the field, over his career here but I sure can deny his off field ****. He is saying near anything to keep that 15mins in reach.

Salute the nation

anyone that advocates fraud is a liar and thief. He is basically saying it's OK to steal money from your teammates, coaches and owners. The Pats thing was forgivable since he was waived and still wanted to play. OK, I get it and didn't hold a grudge that he went to the only team that showed interest in him. This, he sounds like a hypocrite with the whole participation trophy spiel. The one player that worked his *** off, getting cut numerous times, played for and had a healthy career, won a SB and you turn around and **** on them for a player you know they are at odds with is poor judgement.

what team does deebo play for now? yeah shut up....

I dunno...I read the article and I didn't get that he advised it, he more like predicted it.

Like a " don't be surprised if he" or "It would make sense if he", type of comment. And he's right to comment on what to look out for from a player with an agenda, if it were him. It's what Bell's agent is sayin' too.

“If I’m Le’Veon, I’m coming back Nov. 13, and going to go in there, I’m going to get my credit, the season that I need to get, and I’m going to do the best I can to get out of that season healthy,” Harrison said. ”For me, I’d give you everything in practice. You would see, the cameras would see, that I am fine. I am healthy. But come Saturday? Something ain’t right. I can’t play on Sunday. Because if I go out here and I mess something up. I’m losing a lot of money.”

I'm probably the only person alive that believes this but Harrison has a habit of telling it like it is and has nothing to lose by doing it.

As far as Bell goes, following this advice could actually make some potential suitors apprehensive about someone who would take advantage of a situation in this way. But Le’Veon checked his scruples at the door a long time ago. Now it seems Harrison has too.
