One hopeful thing in my mind is that in a trauma situation I cannot imagine a scenario where you would get quality resuscitation care any faster then he got. Which in my mind I am hoping he will pull through with quality life.
As others pointed out, the NHL had a guy who got hit in the chest, technically died on the ice for a couple seconds… then came out to play like a period later… but he was nuts… hopefully this guy recovers quickly and with no lingering symptomsWas going to bar with friends (unrelated) but was looking forward to game as it had some Steelers implications. Just really sad that happened for the young man and his family. It's an aggressive and violent game we all love, but have to remember these young men are people with families and friends. Thoughts and prayers are with Hamlin and his family. I also hope this doesn't become a let's ban football moment.

More than 9500 student atheletes die a year from sudden Cardiac Arrest.
350,000 die a year in the USA.
Knowing CPR is a great thing to have. I took CPR training many many years ago. It’s time I go do it again.
I wrote on here about 1.5 years ago about my then 32 year old Son suffering a heart attack. Strong, perfect shape, out of the blue, absolute shocker to all of us. I mentioned silver linings. With my son the silver lining was he was on his bike, felt pain, actually rode his bike right to the major hospital which was less than 2 blocks away from where he was riding. He’s an avid hiker, and is usually way up in the boonies somewhere, miles away from everything. That he was in town instead of miles away in a remote location was another silver lining.
Damar’s Silver lining has to be the fact he was playing NFL football. Where else would you get ,highly trained personal rushing on to the field within 10 seconds ,and an ambulance under 5 minutes. Seriously. He is a very lucky young man.
Here’s to Damar having a full speedy recovery and hopefully playing the game again that he loves. To think that my son is going on mountain climbs, skiing ,biking, kayaking less than 2 years after being on that operating table for 10 hours, well it truly is unbelievable what a human body can do.
Must have been a horrific experience but thanks for sharing and glad your boy pulled through and is living a normal and seemingly adventurous life!Sudden Cardiac Arrest Facts - Avive AED

I sure agree with you Dj.Wow. Those numbers are shocking. I work for the Department of Corrections, as a teacher. As a result, I am CPR trained, and DeFib trained. I need to get one at home.
Yes Sask,I think about those 2 weeks of pure agony we all went through at that time. His heart was working at 20% and of course being right at the height of the Covid. I get emotional just thinking about it. The kindness of friends and strangers. Restores a little faith in humankind. Worry about him all the time, that he’s doing too much. But what can you say. For the folks that have lost children before their time,I just can’t even imagine.Must have been a horrific experience but thanks for sharing and glad your boy pulled through and is living a normal and seemingly adventurous life!
Was at sports bar last night with football coach buddies and wives. World Junior Hockey game was on screens as Canada was in overtime so did not see live. However no one was being goulish, just wondering the nature of the injury. Someone had DAZN on phone we watched. It was small and a little hard to see. I would say that he did a torque which is a safe contact move when you are in a head on tackle situation. You feel the opponent going through you so you use his momentum and bring him down on you. I would say either the initial contact (I think unlikely) or the compression of the player coming down on his chest (more likely). If there’s an upside, it wasn’t a spinal injury which is everyone’s first thought. Still in critical condition last I heard.
I think that Field is just Jinxed… Shazier happened there.. tua earlier this year… now this… I say the government steps in and drops a couple MOABs on it for public safety… maybe the rest of that city too, just to be safe…
Total BS.Wow. Those numbers are shocking. I work for the Department of Corrections, as a teacher. As a result, I am CPR trained, and DeFib trained. I need to get one at home.
A decade ago they installed them in our offices… because we often work several hundred feet in the air on smokestacks, us working peons asked if we could get some portable ones to take up the larger smokestacks… the company Safety guy said no, because there was a liability issue if they weren’t kept in climate controlled environments… he also said if someone has a heart attack just call the plant, they all have them available….Been through CPR& AED training at least 15 times. Absolutely can save a life.
The AED is completely idiot proof. It will tell you what to do and it won't shock someone who doesn't need it. Most work places and gyms have them on hand. Having one at home isn't a bad idea either.

so an older dude stands up in the meeting and explains that even on the stacks with an elevator, the ride up can be 10 to 15 minutes to an elevation 700 or 800 feet up… so we see a dude go down, call the plant… the plant calls tge emergency crew, they drive out to the stack and hopefully the elevator wasn’t on the ground and maybe we can meet them down there .. though im guessing it’s impossible to do cpr in a 3 man stack crawler… otherwise they have to ride all the way up… by then the heart is probably out of fibrillation and the dude is dead.. so he asks tge safety guy what exactly are we supposed to do if we have a heart attack on the stack?
No ******** you, he said… “well then you are **** out of luck”
Once that electrical pulse in the heart is gone its pretty much over, cpr or not… they probably aren’t going to get it started again… i think in our cpr training they said after Ten minutes or so its very rare to get a heart restarted… the rule of thumb is you have 3 minutes for a high success rate and it drops by 10% every minute after… you can do cpr on someone for hours, but the reality is that their heart doesn’t have that juice it most likely won’t start up againYou're dead unless someone is doing cpr on you the entire time until you get the AED or EMS arrives.
