I stopped posting with any frequency around here around 12 and 1/2 years ago when my son was born (which is why I remember how long) Most of the good posters (Diamond Dave for one) had stopped posting, we got an influx of extremely negative posters, and I was busy with a new child. And although Coach was around in the board that I was in that merged with SteelerNation, thankfully he had take a break for a few years and I didn't have to put up with his nonsense until he decided to return.
I will only say this, The Steelers won, they didn't play a "trap" game or "down to their competition" - Dallas raise their level up competition. I have watched several of Dallas games, they played their best game of the year yesterday across the board. There are times when teams do that. Yes, we have all seen the Steelers stink up a stadium playing down to bad teams, losing by playing worse than the other team who is also playing poorly (the lost to Houston with Tommy Maddox comes to mind). Dallas played the Steelers better than Tennessee or Baltimore played the Steelers. And Dallas as a number of really good players, so forgive me if I am looking at that win as what great teams do, come back and beat a team that is playing lights out (Dallas) and when you are not quite playing your best game yourself (Pittsburgh). I didn't like being stressed right up to last second, but it was a win, I felt instant relief and now 8-0.

It might surprise you that there are many times good teams that have gone on to win the Super Bowl get beat by a team everyone thought would get crushed, Belicheck has done that a number of years:

2003 Lost to a Bad bills team 31-0 and a bad Redskin team also beat them.
2004 lost to the lowly (that year) Dolphins in a game they needed to have a chance for Home field advantage (Steelers eventually got)
2006 lost to Dolphins
2007 Lost to the NY Giants (Yes the Super Bowl, but it was their undefeated season, a lost that I consider an Epic Fail and a letdown game)
2010 Lost 34-14 to the Browns who had Colt McCoy as their QB

I could go on because they have an example almost every year, and that was the almighty Belichick Genius who made adjustments in game looking so intuitive it bordered on telepathic abilities, like he almost knew first hand what plays they were calling. OH, wait a minute, he did! Amazing how cheating can help a buffoon who couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag in Cleveland look suddenly like the smartest, GOAT of a coach because of his genius (cheating).

So, say what you want, I know most on this board will ignore the salient parts of this post and wipe away any positive aspect so they can get back to basking in their comfortable negativity.

One thought on the timing of Ben's Deep throws, it has been a year, no real training camp in July, no preseason games and probably limited opportunities in practice to get that timing back. Add to that he really never got a chance with Diontae, and Claypool is a rookie.
It is starting to come back more consistently with Claypool when Refs aren't letting DBs molest him with ball in the air or somehow miss illegal contact 15 yards downfield.

Just a few Positive thoughts, you are free to return to your dreary negative, seeing completely full glass as totally empty pessimistic outlook on life.

Special teams are the reason this game was in flux, and the team is surely tired with three weeks on the road. I agree Ben is still getting his feel throwing to new people with game time real pressure around him. That’s my hope, anyway.

Agree with special teams but Batch last night on radio show brought up Boz problems were how Dallas pushed the rule lining up closer to guard and jumping over the center being a gray area of penalty. it seemed to get into the coaches decision on the last fourth and two not kicking field goal. he team was tired and showed it . Ben admitted he needs to make better throws, we as a team bring new faces on the receiving end and they all need to get use to Ben as well as Ben with them.. Both have made some positive critical plays in this run. Nothing seemed to work yesterday, running game was non existent. I'm sure they talked it over at half but just seemed flat third quarter belonged to Dallas and field goals still kept the game in hand. Ben as well as offense did what they needed and defense had to this as well. Myself include we get spoiled bein a Steeler fan. Were not a flashy look good all the time team but what I like this year we seem to play as a team and post game comment by players seems to reflect this. This is not about Bill this is about us. There is no way we go undefeated the way the game is today, we need to win the division get in the playoffs and go from there. No one is going to roll over for us, Dallas was a desperate team, tired of all the press and had zero to lose, we just played Baltimore and Titans with all the hype going into that game. We all would of been happy starting the Browns game if we would have gone 3-1 or even 2-2 playing in Baltimore, well we went 4-0.

How dare you show positivity on this board! It will get you lashed at and ridiculed during the game thread. Lol. Also you are not allowed to defend the record against bad teams thing you shall be tarred and feathered.

Good post.

I don't disagree that Dallas played well. That said the Steelers do this when Ben plays. They play defensively safe. When you think of the run they went on with Duck last year it was because they crowded the line threatened zero coverage. Played Robber coverage with Fitzpatrick. Now they stand way back safe, no press and wait for the opponent to make mistakes. I'm not saying it hasn't worked. It has. They have won. That said, you are letting a guy like Gilbert settle in instead of rattling him and causing havoc off the start. And why the 14 point line was a ridiculous opportunity for the betting community.

GREAT Post Hobbster and remember NOT all here are negative. Your correct, in my opinion as well, DALLAS played up to the competition. BEN had 300+ and three TDs, not bad play or stooping to competition play at all. As said, Chase got mugged and with a different officiating crew, it would have been called. Bottom line is the STEELERS over-came a little adversity and played pretty well to overcome what was before them.

THIS game goes to show how sound this team really is, both in players and coaching. YES some things look / feel questionable in hindsight fashion but in the end we won the game and the "what if" and the "by gollies" are just that.

Hey man, good to see ya again. DD was a quality poster, as was (forgive me for not remembering this name, but they guy who always had very detailed draft writeups, and was usually the go to if you wanted to know anything about a college player), those guys were quality. Hell, I remember bunglues rule? And the Stains fan that just couldn't get enough abuse? Damn, good times, at any rate, this has been a hell of a ride so far, glad you're back to enjoy it here with the rest of us ********. :)

The last 2 teams we played made our offense one dimensional, which is exactly what you are trying to do on defense in the NFL. Stop the run, force the throw, and pressure the QB. Neither Baltimore or Dallas could capitalize on that. This is how Baltimore wins games, and they failed to stop Big Ben and these talented receivers.

This team is wicked talented in the passing game. They should shift and use the hurry up and quick passing to open up the run. Not vice versa anymore.

I'mold enough to remember the '78 team well. I guess the 7-0 stuff made me remember them. Anyway, that year around mid-season, they had a few stinker games against bad teams that they just pulled out. Kansas City, New Orleans and Cincinnati...a;; at home!

It happens to every team. Don't worry about it. They got the win and they are 8-0. Who gives a whit how it looked.

I think what I am most happy about is the win and they got out injury free. Isn't that turf down there notorious for injuries?

TMC the man when it came to draft evals.

I like this positive take on it. I've thought for a while that the cowboys are about the most talented bad team I've ever seen.

Special teams and a slow start on offense almost crippled us yesterday. We did a great job protecting the football and generating turnovers again.

Danny Smith should not be employed by this team any longer.

Hey, Joe - What are you up to since last we spoke, I know we both moved on from Earthlink. I currently am Senior AIX administrator for Barclays (the UK bank that has a Credit card division here in US along with an investment bank)

Even the removal of Poe and Everson Griffen has allowed really talented young talent play more and excel, their DL was playing lights out.

We never met but I remember the name Hobbster. Doesn't seem like it's been 12 years, though. Must be getting old.

I agree with your post. And, damn, Claypool got continually molested in that game and the refs ignored all but one call on one of his defenders. The dude is going to be a beast for years to come. And, if the officials start calling some of the penalties, he'll be wide open even more often.

Um, not really, no

I wonder if he bites his tongue often while chewing gum that vigorously?

TMC, baby. Thomas Cooper. Still the last word on pre-draft analysis of players.

So often, when the pressure doesn’t get home, the pass finds a receiver WIDE OPEN! one example yesterday, Cooper catches a pass then stumbles turning to run, there was nobody within 5 yards of him. It’s one thing when a QB threads a needle, I cannot understand why so may passes seem to be to wide open receivers?

LOL. On one shot of him on the sidelines he was chomping a mile a minute. I was waiting for him to blow a bubble and have it pop all over his face shield.

Bubbles and Fichtner can blow right outtA town.

If you watch the replay, the blocked field goal wasn't a leap over the center. Cowboy just shot the gap while timing the snap. The cowboy was in a three point stance. Varying the snap count could fix this and OL blocks down towards center. ither our guy was late(gaurd) or our snap count is to predictable. EITHER way ST coaching should be able to change that immediately in game.
