Cowboys 5th QB > Rudolph

Gilbert had really no pressure on him.. that seemed to be the plan to take Zek out of the game. Our secondary changed from man to man to zone when Gilbert was running and that is when the TE seemed to be wide open. Have we ever had faith in the back up , fans even ran down Batch who did a good back up QB job.

I gotta say, I'm sick of Ben's golfing buddy being our OC.

Rudolph looked like a rag arm to me.

Ben's golf buddy but ALSO Coach Tomlin's O'l friend.

Fichtner was unknow as an OC when he switched from QBs coach to OC. He at first had good outcome because he was so new at it. NOW he is a pile of garbage that has needed taken out awhile ago. CANADA, in my opinion, would make a pretty decent OC and has been here long enough that if in-season replacement is required then so be it.

HARD to argue 8 - 0

Lol, why can’t Rudolph do what their **** qb did to us?

Rudolf is no Drew Brees. Your **** QB t*mmyb*y didn't look so good.

Did you see that throw? I could have read War And Peace in the amount of time it took to get there.

Have you ever tried to come into a game with a cold arm and rocket a pass? He had no time to warm up before coming in. I will give him a proverbial "pass" this time.

He should have been warming up as soon as Ben was hobbling around.

When Mason Rudolph came in at the end of the half he had that same "Howdy Doody" what the **** do I do now look he had all last year...

Go back to last years games that he played. He does not have good zip on his passes - this week or last year. Nice Kid, great guy, great team mate I am sure. Just doesn't have an NFL arm. Not many do. I know folks want Ben's heir on the roster immediately, but the reality is that is no easy task. It was a long ride between Terry B and Big B. I say enjoy the Big Ben ride as along as it is good. and right now, it is 8-0 good.

It's more obvious now than ever that no QB on the Steelers roster right now is worth keeping. None of those guys....Rudolph, Dobbs & Hodges are all not starting material in the NFL. Maybe the Steelers should take a chance on a kid like Trey Lance who has announced he's entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Hopefully he could be the heir apparent to Ben.

I'm with you, Chico. But I really like the QB from BYU, Zach Wilson. Unfortunately, with the Cougars now ranked in the top ten, the secret is out and he is already rocketing up prospective draft boards. Dude is a stud; mobile and accurate with a great arm. I can only hope that the Steelers see what I see, and do everything they can to bring this kid in as Ben's replacement.

That out pass took 30 minutes to get to the receiver. I thought it would be picked off for sure..

this thread was started when that pass was thrown. 12 replies before it went incomplete.

I think the problem here is we will always compare Ben to whoever we have as a backup. No one has Ben's arm. It's a HOF arm and we were lucky to have one of the best ever, play for us. Rudolph is a fine backup. We've seen 3 plays out of the guy, and he didn't have a week to prepare. He's going to get a lot of snaps this week, that is for sure. He's also basicly the Wednesday QB since Ben will sit out every Wed now through the end of the year with his elbow and knees.

Get ready for Mason, Dobbs and DUCK on Sunday

Fair point not to compare to Ben. But the difference in arms between Ruldolph and Garret was obvious on Sunday. I also thought the guy didn't have enough zip watching him last year. Wish I had a way to measure the exit speed on his passes - hell, on all qb's really. Anyway, he is a Steeler and I will root for him, but I don't see him as anything more than what you said above...a backup.

Fitcher plain out sucks saw the same formation stack 2 on each side no effort to even run without watt running out of the pistol vs good penetrating DL is getting the line pushed back would like to see using a ace set with juju lined asa te and ebron as one and vance as the FB until watt returns.

God please no, I can’t watch that **** again!!!

If Ben is COVIDED, Give me Duck. Particularly if it is one game.

Rudolph takes way to long to process, Duck reads very quickly and is accurate, he just does not have the arm strength.

Dobbs has Arm and wheels but his accuracy is terrible. He is obviously extremely smart and he is breaking downplays with Ben on the sideline.

Fichtner ruined all of them.

Oh Canada........

Rudolph has good arm strength, Not a cannon but not weak either. You know who has a weaker arm? The great Lamar Jackson..

The combine puts the radar gun on all the QBs. Here's some numbers for comparison

Josh Allen Wyoming 62 (Left) 62 (Right) - That's a cannon on the high end
Cam Newton, Auburn 56
Patrick Mahomes Texas Tech 55 (Left) 55 (Right)
Russell Wilson, Wisconsin 55
Justin Herbert Oregon 55 (Left) 54 (Right)
Dak Prescott, Mississippi State 54
Mason Rudolph Oklahoma State 52 (Left) 52 (Right)
Joshua Dobbs Tennessee 51 (Left) 50 (Right)
Lamar Jackson Louisville 49 (Left) 49 (Right)
Deshaun Watson Clemson 45 (Left) 45 (Right)

Rudolph's arm strength is fine. The reason some of his throws flutter is because he lacks confidence. You can tell that he's trying to guide the ball in there instead of just letting it rip. He was put in a horrible situation last year. The OL was struggling. Conner was hurt. JuJu and DJ were hurt and Washington was underperforming. There were no weapons. Despite that he did look good in his first few starts but after he got knocked out, he came back and played scared. Scared of the boos and letting down the team. Duck looked better because he was just chucking it without thinking.

Now Rudolph is thrust into a game the steelers are losing while already in FG range and is no doubt under instructions to just not mess up the FG attempt. He looked hesitant but still he did fine. I don;t know what people expected him to do in just a few plays cold off the bench.

Rudolph is a fit for the offense the steelers want to run. It is apparent that the steelers want an offense based on short, run after catch type routes and some deep shots. That is what Rudolph did at Oklahoma State.

they should have picked up Case Keenum during the offseason....much better backup than anyone on this roster

I really think too many fans and coaches expect too much from young QBs... that dude we face Sunday is 29 and has bounced around the league a ton... scroll through the starters and you will see a lot of guys who clicked at a later age than Rudolph Is at.... many really need five years to be very productive.... and often teams give up on the tannehills, bridgewaters and brees Types too quickly... hell there was talk the eagles would dump wentz after a slight downturn

Its too knee jerk... that gilbert punk might be the next romo who lingers in oblivion then becomes a star, or that could be his only good game... hard to say

I think the staff sees something in Rudolph. I also think this is the first year he has had a qb coach, so lets cut him a break until he actually sees extended time out there and gives us something to ***** about

Meh, what good is a fastball if you can't get it over the plate? Rudolph does't show much zip and accuracy at the same time He's fumble prone. Easy to sack. We need better.
