I'm always concerned about putting in a prospect before he is ready. I think you can kill a kids confidence easily. And Burns and Davis are kids if I'm not mistaken they are bare minimum NFL age.
I see Hargrave having the greatest opportunity for the most play time and impact.
Hargrave should have the it easiest earning playing time. They simplified a lot of the things and he's better than anybody they have for NT. Even if he can only be the 2 down run stuffer, that's enough to start.
Davis will have the hardest time because he has the most to learn. He wasn't a full time safety in college. Golden has been OK. Safety is the last line of defense, you can't have any mistakes or it's 6 easy points. I expect to see Davis get some playing time but i'd be shocked if he starts.
Same with Burns. Let's not forget about Golson from last year. He has a year in the system even though he was injured. Gay will start. I think Golson will be in the nickel against the slot WR and Burns will battle Cockrell and Grant for playing time.
Since Dick "Sit em three years" is gone, I'd say hell yeah there is a good chance we see some fresh talent this year.
Joe
I can see Burns and Davis starting. Talent-wise they could be ahead of the vets, but they need to learn the schemes.
No way. They both couldn't be less likely to start: Burns is mostly a man-press guy, who will be asked to play zone; something he has done very little of.
Davis flies all over the field but never even mastered the system at the college level. How badly we will get burned from him missing tackles and assignments on the NFL level?
"Safety" - as its name implies - is the last line of defense. We put him in there as a rookie and it will be bombs away from our opponents. Flacco and Ginger Head will be tossing 50 yard bombs with regularity. And you can't win games giving up plays like that.
My only rebuttal to the statement about Davis - the kid has learned three (3) languages - and Chinese being one of them. He's got the smarts to learn this new defense quickly, IMO...
Until you figure out who the kicker was for the Steelers last season you just Ned to quiet down
Don't let the fact Davis called all the defensive plays for Maryland get in the way of your pompous, baseless posts.Book smarts and learning languages are separate skill sets than football instincts. I fear the kid will look lost like Scott Shields.
BTSC said:"He diagnoses plays quickly and moves laterally to the ball against the run, and stays home in his zone against the pass. Put simply, he does his best work when he's facing the play. For a safety, that's a very good trait to have."
Carnell Lake said:"Sean is a very intelligent individual. He made calls at the safety position at Maryland. For him, not only corner, but also safety at Maryland, says a lot about his intelligence. Not only that, as a footnote, he speaks three languages. So I am not worried about his ability to adapt to our playbook."
Carnell Lake said:Re: Evaluating communication on film:
"Through the interview process, from the Senior Bowl to the Combine, to bringing them in the building, sitting down and talking with them and watching film with them, you get an idea of what they know, how they communicate and their responsibilities within their defense in college. That gives you some understanding of what they’re capable of."
Do you watch your own film with them?
"No. We watch their film. We want to get an idea of what defenses they played, what their responsibilities were within the defense. From that we can determine their football intelligence and get some comfort level with their base understanding of football."
Did you rank him as your first choice for safeties?
"For me personally, yes I did."

have you ever ******* bench-pressed Tibs? if not you don't even deserve to participate in this conversation...
Calling plays/knowing a playbook are still not the same skill set as having instincts on the field. You could be as smart as Albert Einstein and still not have football instincts. Have you ever played?

I haven't bench pressed Tibs, but I have bench pressed my wife...
What Tibs is saying your NOT picking up what he is a laying down. Having a brain (football oriented) will help comprehend the playbook faster. Look at Boykin as an example. Seemed to have some instincs but couldn't get the play assignments. (Also more things than just that). POINT made. Do brains guarantee GREAT PLAY, no but then neither does instincs. HELLO !!!
I don't know Tibs physical atributes but his football knowledge is very good. Now dealing with a instinctive guy, transgender team fan, (this is you POPs) I can see it's hard to communicate with him. Or maybe it's just the instinctive load that is slowing things down. In any event, until you see live action play, combined with the smarts and the instinctive side, you can't determine good or bad, what one has or doesn't. I'll go with Tibs and Carnell LAKE on this one........ Big time !!!!!
Salute the nation
A creative way for Cope to say "my wife's not a hippo".
Nice humble-brag.

I know his defense was harder to learn, but to be fair to him we also had better players on defense a few years back so there was no rush to have rookies play. they could take a few seasons to learn the system. fast forward to today and a lot of our starters shouldn't be.
well to be fair we haven't asked Pop's boyfriend if he wears the dress in the family
Ha! I'm not sure what Tibs weighs, but it's probably more than 105...
Less of a humble brag, and more of a "I can only put up the bar" while bench pressing.
