Cortez Allen to IR

It's amazing that I just totally disproved your statement, yet you're stubborn enough to repeat it with no argument.

I'd rather have a "chump" like Cromartie or Talib, myself.

Right...You proved with your numbers that you gave that the salary will not kill us. Nice to pick and choose who you want now though with your hindsight and all. Sure i would rather have one of them NOW. LOL. You guys kill me.

get him to a lower cap number and if he can even be a S or recover let him stay for a 1 year to avoid to dead cap hit,

The Steelers may take a $4M dead money hit by cutting Cortez after the season, but they save $1.7M from his projected 2016 $5.7M cap hit and he's off the books after next year. This in turn eliminates his $5.65M cap hits in 2017 and 2018.

A smart money move to take the $4M cap hit to save just over $13M in future cap space on a guy that doesn't seem to be healthy enough to play.

The $4M has already been paid as a signing bonus, and the remaining prorated portion is what counts against the cap if he's cut. The Steelers also save having to pay him $13M in hard money for his remaining salaries 2016-2018.

NIce post. Looks like it might be smart just to move on from Allen after this season.

Giving a (big) contract to a player with bum knees is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenagers. Is there ever a good outcome? The contract offer could have been significantly less and if Allen walked the Steelers are right where they are now chewing on Allen's cap hit.
That deal in the words of Andy Dufresne "is obtuse"!

goddammit.
maybe NOW we see Boykin? looks like Cockrell is our lone big CB.

Tomlin is treating Boykin like an outdoor dog with fleas.

to be fair I am sure the Steelers expected him to have a common recovery

sometimes it works out for you sometimes it doesn't

but cut him and with the saved money add to it and get/ bring in a solid corner.....

and then bring in a SS resign some potential free agents and then draft....

Some people are unlucky.

I would say Cortez was extremely lucky we prematurely handed him an over inflated contract in a fear/desperation move raking in millions of dollars for his future endeavors

he showed promise, but that contract was absurd... Had the staff not burned bridges with Lewis before he even got a real chance we wouldn't have had to panic pay Allen... he was just better as a slot guy. Maybe, like Gay, he will develop later as a guy who can play the edges, but that ought to be with someone else... this is looking chronic and we cant wait for him to work things out on and off the field at the same time

Lewis would have probably cost us more and hasn't exactly burned it up as a Saint in either production or playing time. In reality the only player we lost to free agency who has had a major impact somewhere else has been Sanders.

The salary will not kill us? Are you saying that the Steelers' secondary is adequate? When this clown makes more than all the other corners on the team put together? That the front office couldn't have spent 7 million dollars more judiciously? Right on.

Not picking and choosing anything. Just pointing out that your cute way of describing his salary is ridiculous -- what Allen makes puts him 18th on the cornerback list, and among some of the elite CBs in the league...and no one has ever described (or ever will describe) Cortez Allen as "elite." And that includes the time before he signed his contract, when evidently you were creaming your jeans over the guy. Just don't lump all of us into that boat. Thanks.
