Tyler Murphy to the big club...

Now how does Allen go from questionable to play this week to out for the year? Guess they decided he needed surgery or something. Talk about a waste of money
He's played like 4 games signed he signed that contract

goddammit.
maybe NOW we see Boykin? looks like Cockrell is our lone big CB.

Steelers placed CB Cortez Allen (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Allen missed the last five games and wasn't close to returning. The Steelers will continue to go with Antwon Blake and Ross Cockrell as their top corners. Owed $5.75 million in 2016, Allen is a candidate for offseason release. Oct 24 - 4:05 PM

I think regardless Tomlin was not going to put him in, he does not like him, and got tired of his mental laples on corner strike and any double move, bc last year he looked like he had no clue what to do.
I really hope Boykin is the primary slot CB noor we use dime sets where blake plays more of a deep-low high low saftey where he can use his speed to under cut routes and make plays like the Rivers pick 6.

nickel
outside Cockrell Gay inside Blake

dime outside vs Cockrell Gay inside Boykin Blake and hopefully they activate Grant to start learning the D on play ST.

The only thing that will be missed if Cortez Allen is released this off season is the money his cap hit chews up. It's not like he's been playing since last year.

And, what is his injury? They forced him to IR. Not liking the way this team is operating these days.

Allen has had: (1) knee surgery (scope) 2013 (2) knee surgery ending 2014 season and (3) knee injury 2015. I believe this all has been to the same knee. That says the issue might be chronic and not responding to treatment.

well at least now wo know he isn't an option. He'll be a post june 1 cut and probably won't play football again but he's definitly leaving with a shitload of money

Meh....every team has players like this. Some worse.

Yep ...4 and 2. Defense playing the best they have in years. The offense still chugging along with like their 20th QB playing. They are stinking it up big time.

That's not what I said. Operating and playing are 2 different things. Look it up in a dictionary before you chime in. Cortez was just interviewed (see other thread) and he was basically saying he is fine but talk to Tomlin about his "health". He didn't seem to know why he wasn't playing. He is in Tomlin's doghouse. If so, so be it but to put one of your only options in a terrible and depleted secondary on IR makes no sense unless it was truly a serious injury. They easily could have kept him on the roster, if he is "injured" and gave up Archers roster spot. Archer does nothing. They also brought in Boykin and refuse to play him. Just makes no sense.

Makes perfect sense:

1. Players lie all the time about whether or not they are fully, truly healthy. Allen has had the same knee hurt for 3 out of the last 3 seasons. It helped to end his season last year and has ended his season this year.

2. Allen is still a head case. In the limited time he played this year, he didn't look much, if any, better in that regard than he did last year. It's not like he was even an average option at CB. Mental toughness counts and Cortez is sorely lacking in that regard.

3. Cockrell has practiced better than Boykin. Tomlin has said it. Butler has said it. So, given the choice between putting one player in the defense who is still learning the system but is practicing well, or putting in another player who is still learning the system but isn't practicing as well, they chose to go with the player who is practicing better. As far as Boykin taking Blake's spot. If he can't take Cockrell's spot, how would you expect him to take Blake's. Cockrell is closer to starting in place of Blake than Boykin.

Wouldn't be the first time a player said they were OK and in reality couldn't play. The STEELERS aren't going to put a guy on IR just because. Then pay him a boat load of money to boot. The odds are there is something wrong with Cortez and he just doesn't want to say it. How many knee surgery??? Chronic???? Does his contract pay way less if reoccuring in jury??? THESE are things we, as fans, don't know. TOMLIN is fully aware of his players / availability / TEAM, dog house or not, they aren't IRing him for ***** and giggles.

Salute the nation

he showed promise, but that contract was absurd... Had the staff not burned bridges with Lewis before he even got a real chance we wouldn't have had to panic pay Allen... he was just better as a slot guy. Maybe, like Gay, he will develop later as a guy who can play the edges, but that ought to be with someone else... this is looking chronic and we cant wait for him to work things out on and off the field at the same time

Boo the **** hoo. You are ******* crying about 2 players that haven't played much if at all but are team is playing better than they have in years. So maybe Tomlin is doing something right....GOD forbid.

They didn't panic in Allen. They thought he was the better option. Everyone loved the signing when they inked him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

Absurd indeed.

They gave this clown a $3 million signing bonus this past March. His cap hit this year was almost $7 mill. And even if they cut his sorry ***, there's another $4.05 million in dead cap to come.

One of the worst contracts in recent memory...and this front office has had their share.

That is chump change in this day of age in the NFL. Now if it was like a Woodley contract I just might agree with you....but it isn't.

Hmm...well to be fair, this is the same cadre that kept Sean Spence around in rehab for over a year so that he could recover and become a serviceable asset on the roster. Same with how they dealt with Aaron Smith at the end of his career.

Sucks, but sometimes you just gotta cut bait

didn't see it coming

but it is what it is

sort of explains some things though

so we can add CB to SS (two biggest offseason needs)

No, everyone did not love the signing at the time. I thought they grossly overpaid him then. No hindsight needed.

Yeah...that "chump change" the Steelers pay Cortez Allen in 2015 ($6,981,000) is high enough to rank him right behind Antonio Cromartie and just ahead of Aqib Talib on the cornerback salary list. And it's nearly $2 million more than Gay, Blake, Boykin, and Cockrell make. Combined.

Great points.

As I said .....chump change in today's NFL.

It's amazing that I just totally disproved your statement, yet you're stubborn enough to repeat it with no argument.

I'd rather have a "chump" like Cromartie or Talib, myself.
