Maybe so. We have Burns, a sometimes overmatched but solid zone guy in Cockrell, and Gay who looked a bit slower and is aging.

Gay is our slot guy, and Cockrell is better off as a #3 corner on the outside.

So adding a corner in round one or round two might make sense as the better QB's slice and dice our DB's.

There's three guys I'm really interested in: Desmond King, Jourdan Lewis, and Jabrill Peppers(I know peppers is probably more of a safety, but him and Davis could solidify our back end).

I have seen King burned. He is NOT Fast.

King needs a good combine/pro day. I think he's more of a football player than an athlete, and when you play corner, that's not a good think.

Could be moved to Saftey.

No could about it...he will be.
However, the guy has great ball skills and supports the run very well.
I would take him in rd 2 if he were still available.
Only thing he is lacking is long speed. It's not like he will run a 4.7.

I do believe we take a DB in rds 1-3.
Seems we have a good bit of CB's, but not one that can be physical at the get-off.
A guy like Quincy Wilson would be an option at 1.30.

There are a bunch of guys in rds 2-3 we could target. I would bet a small amount that Cameron Sutton is taken in the draft by us.
He has the size and skills to play outside and inside.

Now, Safety has a ton of good prospects in the 1-2 rd range. Baker, Peppers, Evans, Williams, kid from Villanova.

Not sure which one we take but a DB will be taken in the first 3 rds IMO>

I like Tre'davious White. He's only 5'11" so don't meet the height requirement for some here.

Can return punts, kicks and play CB pretty well.

I still think pressuring the QB is most important. We really need to have another option behind Dupree and Harrison (assuming he even comes back).

Rooney said we need more pressure on the qb.... I would hope at 30 they go BPA but sounds like it will be someone that we think can get to the QB

I think he'll run over a 4.55, possibly in the 4.6 range. He's not fast or twitchy either. So slot corner is not an option.

King has round 3 or 4 value for me pending his work out to prove or disprove the knocks on him.

Tim Williams - edge, Round 1
Cam Sutton - CB, Round 2

I would be ok with either a CB or OLBer in 1

I think the pick will be a OLBer but there is that value thing to consider as well.

I just hope if they pick a player who slides down 1, he hasn't slid because of a poor combine...........

From the mocks I have seen there are value options at OLB at end of round 1 and value options at CB at the end of round 2.
I think our first 3 position picks will be: 1. OLB, 2. CB, 3. RB

Quick mock.

1 ) Tight end. OJ Howard. Really stood out at the senior bowl. Tall, Super athletic, a natural pass catcher and better than most thought as a blocker.

Can you say RED ZONE Weapon! Complimented by Brown, Bell, and Bryant ( we hope ), Howard can really do some damage.

2 ) Corner Back. Tre'Davious White. A guy can dream, right?

3 ) Edge rusher. Alex Anzalone. Really impressed at the senior bowl practices and during the game

CB and Edge rusher in 1 and 2. Take BPA at one of those positions in each round. Then go DT in 3. Then tall WR with hands and power RB in 4 and 5.

Just looking around, as of now, it seems more likely that Sutton will be available in round 2 than White. I'd take White at 29/30 if I could, but if there was a nice OLB-type and/or trade down partner, getting Sutton in the 2nd would be a pretty good consolation prize, I think.

I really think OJ Howard is gone come 30, but would love the pick..........

Round 1 - McKinley, UCLA.

"STRENGTHS: Twitched-up athlete with the burst off the ball to blow past offensive tackles as a speed rusher, as well as the disproportionately long arms to keep blockers from grabbing hold of him. Terrific balance and bend to dip under the reach of blockers and scrape the corner. Fluid change of direction, allowing him to project nicely as an edge rusher, spy on the quarterback or when dropping into coverage. Anticipates cut blocks and pulling guards, showing excellent body control to spin free from contact while keeping track of the ball. Good vision and motor for pursuit, often running 15+ yards downfield to get in on tackles even after initially rushing upfield. Active hands to slip blocks even when his initial speed rush is contained, incorporating swim and rip moves frequently. Shows good hand-eye coordination to slap away the ball from unsuspecting quarterbacks while still being blocked, as well as the explosiveness and timing to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage. May just be scratching the surface of his athletic potential. Recorded a 10.58 second 100 meters in his first year of running track during high school.

Round 2 - Need to see what we learn from the combine. Is Adoree Jackson just 180 lbs? Or 5'11" and closer to 195? If the latter, I like him in round 2. Elite speed, 16 passes defensed last year, 5 interceptions, can stick with speed receivers, proficient in jamming for a USC defense that played a lot of man. Fast-twitch guy that can stick to the Edelman's of the NFL.

Get a top-tier pass rusher, an accomplished CB proficient in bump coverage, combine with a healthy DL, Dupree, Harrison, Burns, and Davis. The defense finally takes the next step.

The more I watch of Peppers, the less sure I become of him. The only thing thag really stands out is the fact that he's incredibly versatile. However, nothing seems to really jump off the screen. Of course, as long as he's simply a good football player, I'll be ok with that. Anyone have an opinion on him?

I would love to see Howard at 30...but we still need a slot corner and another pass rusher.

More media hype than anything for pretty much the reasons you said. He's versatile, but not really a special player from when I've watched him.

I'd recommend that we place a higher value on football smarts and discipline, but this coaching staff would waste those attributes.

I think he can be special in the right system. He is not a linebacker. He is a hybrid. Needs to play for a team that uses nickle all the time. Use him as a chess piece. And he is a big time kick returner.

Very unlikely to get either a top pass rusher or cover corner at #30 let alone both. One guy who might merit a hard later look is Price from Pitt. Not all great pass rushers are top choices.
