So, we have some coaching changes already starting for the bad teams.....Mike McCoy with Denver and now Norton Jr at Oakland.....who is next? Does anyone think Mara will allow a change now, even though NYG have no shot at the playoffs? Wondering about Tampa Bay too....

Lol....I more or less directed the query at teams with a low shot at the playoffs. I would say CHI, but I think Fox is in trouble. Too bad, he's a good coach, just not enough players to build on.

Thought about San Diego and that defense. But has a rookie coach ever fired a coordinator before their season ended? Did Cowher get rid of Walton during the year or after the season ended?

I like Haley’s plays but not his calling. My biggest negative is that he doesn’t have a feel for the game or sense of rhythm.

I know this has crossed many a poster here's mind. Truth is, it's NOT going to happen durring THIS SEASON. Our record and belief of a special season is just to great to AXE him mid season. We are going to win the Super Bowl with him. It would create to much turmoil in what is to close to winning it all. I agree he needs to "move" on but sadly I think shades likes him and he stays unless a bigger job offer comes along. A lot can happen in the off-season so let's hope that offer materializes.

Do OC's get fired when the team is 8-2, even if the O is underperforming?

They dont but doesnt mean they shouldnt in some cases. What I do not get is the fact that we went right down the field with the no huddle on the first drive then *POOF* they stopped using it till the second half. Things like that are truly head scratching. Just like crossing routes / slants. They seem to be open and we do them 1-2x then start running WR reverses or bubble screens WTF!. Its good to have a variety of plays, but if the defense cant stop it then I would run it every play till they adjust.

I do not think Ben and Haley have a great relationship and I think they are both stubborn. I think Haley calls some stuff just to throw his authority around and I think Ben chucks some balls up as a FU to Haley. Firing Haley mid season would be very risky and basically a 0% chance of reality. If the Steelers O busts in the playoffs I do not think Haley will survive. If they do make it to the SB it will be interesting to see what happens. Firing Haley might grant us Ben for another year. If we win the SB I think Ben will retire on top and Haley will probably stick around.

But think of this, too.

People here, including me, have complained for several years about not using the FB more, empty backfields on 3rd and short and for many of other things.

Last year the RZ % was 59% and 2nd in the league. The year before was ~60% and 10th in the league. Those two years we were top 10 in ppg, too

If we are still bitching about Haley's play calling, with the same complaints, how did we get to 60%ish? . This year we have, arguably, a better offense.

The problem, IMO, is not, necessarily, the play calls, it is the execution. How many TD's or big plays have been called back because of an ill-timed penalty? When the excuses are being made for Ben that so-and-so dropped the ball or slipped, shouldn't that work in the OC's benefit, too? The right play calls were there to score, but execution failed.

That doesn't mean he doesn't do some bonehead **** from time to time, but I think it is a vast oversimplification to say he is a problem or holding us back..

I have a man crush on Ark

They posted a stat Thursday night about Ben since the KC debacle with five picks. Since then he’s thrown 10 TD’s and has a QBR over 100.0. Throw in the comment he made yesterday about his halftime talk to the offense.....I think Ben knows where the majority of the blame is at and sent the message. He got everyone on the offense to focus and execute better. Let’s see if it carries over in the upcoming games.

You see, that's the question.

Are the Steelers under-performing? Or have they not peaked? Personally, I would MUCH rather have the Steelers still working **** out, getting Bryant and Bell fully integrated and all the weird kinks with Ben's faith in his receivers and his over-arching need to sneak in that deep ball every now and then. (For the record, I'm a huge fan of the deep throw, but I think it should be used to back off the safeties and open up the middle of the field. I prefer the "Oh ****! They're sneakin' up on the line to stop Bell, let's air it out to Martavis or Brown" to ... "Hey it's 3rd and 3, I have James wide open for 5, buuuuut, there's just a squeaky chance I can force feed a 45 yard pass through 3 defenders into Brown... Ya. I'll do THAT!"

I want this team peaking late. Not early. Check the Chiefs for reference.
