Yes it is that time of the year. Everyone's favorite preseason post by their favorite poster
Coolie pimps his Coogs
Starting off with
Conner Weigman - QB - 6'3" 210#
Fifth year senior, transferred in from A&M after losing his job due to injuries. The former 5 star recruit played well last season for UH and if the defense hadn't **** the bed all season they would have won more games last year. He threw for 2705 yards with 25 TDs and 9 ints. 5 of those were over back to back games 2 in one and 3 in the next. He also added in 700 yards rushing with 11 TDs. He is a very good QB. He seems to see the field well and does not bolt up the field from initial pressure. He has a strong arm and usually doesn't try to force throws (exception the back to back ****** weeks last year) He did have a lot of called runs and was a key component of their running game. I hope he takes the next step and helps this team fight for at least the Big XII title this season. Their conference opener against Tech will be a good measure of their chances
Amare Thomas - WR 6' 205#
Amare had a good year last season. He stepped up after their top returning wideout (Stephon Johnson) went down with a season ending injury. He had 67 receptions for 966 yards and 12 TDs He has good speed and will win the fight for 50-50 balls.
Stephon Johnson - WR 6'2" 190#
Stephon missed most of last season with a Lisfranc injury. He is very fast and has great hands. He was part of the court settlement that gave some players an additional year of eligibility and I hope he makes it worthwhile with a good season this year. With Thomas on one side and Johnson on the other this should open up the offense for Weigman.
Shadre Hurst - LG 6'2" 304#
Shadre is a transfer in from Tulane so I have not seen a lot of him yet. He is a preseason All American and on all the major award watch lists, so I expect good things from him and hopefully he can help solidify the OL and keep Weigman on his feet
Makhi Hughes - RB 6' 210#
Another transfer to UH. Was at Oregon last season but started at Tulane which makes him move to play for Coach Fritz. HE has over 2800 career rushing yards which ranks 2nd among active FBS running backs. The coogs played a RB by committe a lot last season so hopefully he can be a work horse and help take pressure off of Weigman
Will James - CB 6' 185#
Will is the closest thing UH has to a shut down corner. Last season he had 3 picks, 5 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles and a blocked kick He is very good in coverage and a willing tackler.
Kentrell Webb - S 5'11" 190#
Kentrell is a solid tackler (71 tackles last season) he had to make up for some average LBs last season and was very good against the run. He had 1 pick and 4 pass breakups so he is not a bust in coverage either He should help solidify the secondary and hopefully get teams off the damn field on 3rd down.
