Convince me why Hakeem Butler shouldn’t be a Steeler by the end of Thursday night

I’ve seen guys like Paris Campbell (huh? He averages like 11 yards per catch) and DK Metcalf (Butler is who people think this guy is supposed to be), Hollywood Brown, etc ranked ahead of him. But personally I think Butler could allow our offense to not miss a beat next year. His size and skills are freakish and he’s not a straight line guy like Metcalf, and has actually produced as well

This dude is going to be a fantastic NFL WR and the only reason he shouldn’t be our first round pick is if Devin Bush is also available. Convince me I’m wrong

Because we need defensive playmakers period.. I love Butler, he’s my favorite WR this year, even with the occasional drops, but the WR class Is very, very deep. ILB, Edge or CB will be the pick, because those positions are more top loaded ( especially ILB and CB).. we’ll draft a WR on day 2. Hopefully Butler

I'm all for him in the 2nd round, if he's still there. I can't imagine being pleased with passing over Devin Bush or Deandre Baker if they're there in the 1st.
Though, I can also see Butler fitting us to a T. He'd likely have some growing pains in the first part of the season, but towards the end, he'd likely be solid.

• Hakeem Butler of Iowa State is the tallest receiver in this class at nearly 6 feet 6. He also has the longest wingspan (84 inches) and largest hands (nearly 11 inches). He’s so big the NFL asked him to work out as a tight end at the combine. They probably withdrew that request when they saw him run a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash.

Hakeem Butler offers a promising skill set in a vertical offense. Butler has phenomenal flashes in contested situations and as a vertical receiver, but needs to add further polish to his releases against press to consistently stack defenders in the NFL. Butler lacks quickness at the top of hard angled breaks but has the size to further develop himself and create separation for himself. Look for Butler to develop through his first 3 seasons and eventually be a starting X-receiver.

from the same site, I find it interesting that he's the listed as the #1 WR for us to take.
Butler is a sky-scraping speedster who offers 4.4 speed and a monstrous wingspan to corral contested catches down the field. He was one of the most dominant vertical threats in college football last season, capable of running by defenders or going up over them for tough catches.

He’s also a very underrated route runner and can create post-catch, showing an all-around skill set that is rare at the receiver position. He’s a first round caliber talent in my book, with the ability to beat any type of coverage and pro-ready football IQ. Butler also played in the slot a ton at Iowa State, which will continue to give the Steelers offense important flexibility in their receiving corps, a staple of Randy Fichtner’s offense. Oh, and he’ll block too.

The downside? Not much to be honest, except Butler drops the ball much more than you’d like. High-variance play has never scared away Pittsburgh, and it shouldn’t in this situation. If Butler is there at no. 20, it’s a no-brainer. Even if you have to trade up a little for him, it’s worth it to secure the best non-Metcalf weapon for Pittsburgh in this class.

He has a lot of upside, but I sure hope we don't pass on either Devin to get him. A case could also be made to go for Chase Winovich in the 2nd round, as this is a pretty deep WR class.

Reminds me of Plaxico without the tude. A high want of mine but if the Steelers don't pick him in 1 probably will be drafted before our pick in 2. A desirable round 2 tradeup option as well...

As said, DEFENSE will have to be our first pick, PROVIDED the right guy is there. Butler would be great but I think a 2nd is possible with maybe a move up to get him. If the value / need / BPA pick isn't there in the first I think it would be a bit of a stretch for Butler at 1.20. Don't get me wrong as my opinion is I'd love him on our team but reality is "D" needs to much.

Salute the nation

I'm really good (especially if main targets are gone) in letting a player fall to us in round one and then using the plethora of picks to go up and get someone in round two. A defensive gem in round one and then use the third and a late sweetener to get someone like Butler if they fall through the first. Maybe 2.7 or 8. 10-12 picks up.

I wonder if they will trade up in 1 or 2. Obviously round 1 trade up wouldn't be for Butler.

I would be surprised to see no trade ups. Just wouldn't make sense.

I think if they target trade up for Bush that is where the trade ups end.

And if they trade up in 2, it could be for a defensive prospect just as well as it could be for my like in Butler.

Get excited Steelers Nation the draft is this week !

This is the only time of year that I wish I enjoyed college football. My team sucks balls, therefore it's only nfl for me.

I really like Butler and am a little disappointed the Steelers didn’t send more to his pro day. I personally think they have him not on their round 1 or 2 board which means he has to at least last to round 3... very unlikely. But yes he’s a faster, taller, bigger Burress.

A) I don’t think Butler will be taken in round 1 by any team.
B) We have a pretty great track record at selecting WRs in later rounds under Colbert.
C) This WR class is retardedly deep. It’s not really top end superstar heavy, but super solid for a few rounds.
D) Because of our off-season signings/resignings, it’s not as much of a need as you seem to think.
E) We’re NOT going to replace Antonio Clown regardless of whom we select and where we select them. No WR in the history of the game has ever put together one of Clown’s last 6 seasons their rookie year.
F) Our defense is way more in need of upgrades and help than our offense is. LeBeau is gone and rookies can contribute earlier in Butler/Tomlin’s scheme.
G) I’m hoping beyond hope we can get Miles Boykin in round 2 by some miracle. I think he’s going to be THEE WR of this class when all’s said and done.

Cause we’re gonna draft Fant or Hockenson in the first although I’d be happy with him also

I’ll cream myself if we get Hockenson.
I’m not too sold on Fant.
He may be the best pass catcher of the TEs, but Hockenson is the most COMPLETE TE of the class......far above and beyond the others.

Probably trade up in 2nd.. the top 45 guys are all basically 1st round grade guys.. obviously there are only 32 1st round picks, but a trade up in the 2nd for the right player and it’s basically like getting two first rounders.. this class is the best I e seen in a long time for top of the draft talent.. I don’t think you’ll see many busts in the 1st 45-50 picks (except maybe QB’s)

If Bush, Ferrell or Baker aren't there, I would be okay with this....there are too many quality WRs you could get in the 2nd or 3rd to go WR in the 1st unless they are clearly the BPA

I think Hakeem Butler will be available in the 2nd to be honest (maybe because teams will be gun-shy about the drops). I was worried about Vance McDonald's history of drops and he really seemed to clean that up here, so somebody's teaching these guys how to catch the ball.

Because that's the only real negative I see with this guy.

I read a report that Butler is hitting the jugs hard. So already he is self aware of his criticisms and willing to improve on them...

I love Butler...but if we don't get him at 20...rats will nab him...just my .02.

Yes, Bush should be drafted if available at 20.

Metcalf was a hot player until he got hurt. With Ben he’d be the next mike Wallace.

Campbell was stuck in a throw short type of offense. I think his best football is ahead of him.

Butler to me is an early second round type of talent. If we trade out if round one he becomes a better option.

I like the game tape that I have seen on Butler - his drops are the glaring issue (to me). I want to see him blocking down the field and on the edge better.

He's a beast, if the ball is coming his way---that being said, hopefully he's there when we pick w/ our 3rd pick that was traded w/ the Raiders (3.2)...
